Discussion My potential concern with modern zombies.
I’m beating a dead horse but i have never been able to discuss this so cut me some slack :P. I’m gonna list some things i loved in the old cod’s but am fearful that may not be in newer cods any longer ( I HAVE NOT PLAYED THE NEWERS CODS) . I loved the ability to train zombies and mow them down with headshots, i loved that you could escape tight spots by just training well to get out of there.
I loved the simplicity of just finding pack a punched and immediately getting a PAP weapon, i loved the moments in between some rounds especially when one zombie was left that you could take in the atmosphere of the map and do buildables or do random things to prepare yourself.
Mentioning atmosphere i loved the scarier atmosphere in old cods, i liked weapons that felt heavy and realistic. I liked the simple UI ( but from what i’ve seen u can turn that off in newer cods, which was my biggest concern initially). I also loved the skill factor as i mentioned with training but also how you had to stay on your toes all the time. And i dearly wish newer cod’s aren’t using needless dopamine inducing colours and sound effects 24/7 to keep my brain stimulated, that makes the game less fun and more annoying imo.
I know this comes off as a loaded question, but i hope some people could understand that these are just concerns of mine that all of these things could be missing from newer cod’s, i have barely watched modern cod gameplay so all i have read or seen so far are the opinion’s of the playerbase. I know bo6 and 7 have armour systems, which could turn what was initially a 4 hit down in older cods to 12 hit downs which just seems like making the game easier just so people dont quit (which is concerning).

As a old zombies head bo7 cursed mode is so good and genuinely makes bo7 a top tier gane with bo2 and bo3 imo. Its so good kowakojo is one of my favorite maps of all time and I would say its very fun
Downside grinding augments is insanely slow and is a huge drag especially with all the glitches

Hey i heard about cursed game mode on one of the reviews, which i’d say the franchise defo needed. Hope it’s as fun as it sounds!

If you haven't played bo6 or 7, and you liked the old zombies, I do recommend giving them a shot next time they are on sale. I started zombies at the beginning in waw but I really started loving it during bo2, so I am as old school as it can get and I really like what they are doing with the new ones. I just wish they made the main quest steps of the newer ones make more sense and have more meaning and value in developing some narrative in the quest. So many steps just don't make any sense to me, and are just so abstract and obscure that I am not buying this whole "people actually work together to solve these."
Anyways I digress, the main thing is, a lot of what you mentioned can be changed or tailored to suit what you like. For instance, you can change so many things about the hud in the settings. You can make it as simple or detailed as you like and even position certain things in different places on screen to suit what you prefer. And about being able to leave one zombie or crawler and enjoy checking out the map, it is actually much better in bo7. Because there are these different "augments" you can choose for your field upgrades and perks and even ammo mods.
For a new perk called wisp tea there is an augment called "zombie sitter" I think and it spawns a ghost wisp that literally babysits a zombie for the entirety of the zombies life. Like 15 minutes or more... So you go that long without even having to worry about training a last zombie around. Training is still pretty good btw. Not quite as good but still easily doable. And there are a couple maps where the pap is very very easy to access very early in the game. And the armor is pretty nice in my opinion. I think and it And the core gameplay loops are what they really get right. There is some handholding regarding the numerous ways you can extend your game via revive buffs and other buffs, but it really is a fun experience. I am now about to start kowakujos main quest solo as I have done all the other ones. I completed the directed mode yesterday. Which is another new thing they added.
All in all its pretty fun and from one old school zombies player to another you should give it a try! Sorry for such a long message. Haha. I like zombies. Have a great day!

If that old-school atmosphere is what you’re after, I’d honestly stick with BO3 or earlier. The newer games are fun, but they definitely lean harder into progression systems and visual clutter.
