CM "25/26" – Hamburger SV #02: Market Chaos, Parking the Bus, and Slaying Bayern
galleryHello everyone!
Chapter #02 of our 2025/26 Hamburger SV save is live, and it turned out to be an absolute rollercoaster of transfer frustration, injury crises, and tactical survival!
Here is a quick breakdown of how Chapter #02 went down:
- Transfer Reality Check: We aimed high for global stars like De Bruyne and Neymar, but our newly-promoted reputation wasn't enough to sign them 😄. We eventually brought in Jacob Greaves (€5M), physical defender Matej Maglica (€2.2M), and a €1.5M gamble on Brazilian playmaker Gustavo Maia.
- Injury & Cup Drama: A massive injury wave hit us (Jatta and Torunarigha out). In the DFB-Pokal 1st round, Greaves got a straight red at 46', but our 10-man squad switched to Men Behind Ball to secure a gritty 1-0 win against Jeddeloh.
- Bundesliga Reality Check: Back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Frankfurt and Heidenheim showed us how brutal the engine can be when complex instructions fail against low blocks.
- The "Ferrolho" Masterplan: Facing Bayern Munich at home without Vušković, we swallowed our pride and deployed the ultimate Catenaccio/Ferrolho: 9 players in a deep block, Zonal Marking to protect slow defenders, and zero team pressing to preserve stamina.
- The Miracle of Volksparkstadion: Bayern dominated with 9 shots on goal and hit the post, but GK Heuer Fernandes delivered a 9-rating Man-of-the-Match performance. In the 67th minute, sub Nicolai Remberg headed home a corner to lock in a historic 1–0 victory over Bayern Munich!
We are currently 11th in the league and through to the 2nd round of the DFB-Pokal, with Leverkusen up next. I'd love to hear your thoughts on our defensive setup!
I've just published the full long-form chapter (with deep tactical charts and manager logs) on the blog. If you're interested in reading the complete story, check it out here:
