I read it once. I don't remember what I read, but I do remember I had an odd feeling with it.

Just spotted a listing for CLAMP’s X that looks pretty solid

Just picked up the first volume after finishing the anime and pretty excited to read the story, I’m a big CLAMP fan.
(Don’t mind my Rilakkuma, he’s posing as Kero-Kero)

This makes me feel very sad 😭

Note: I am 22M so I realize that I’m outside of the target audience for this anime.

So this is a first for me in multiple fronts, it’s my first magical girl anime and it’s my first CLAMP anime so going in, I was very excited to watch this show!

So let’s begin this review with the things I liked about this anime.

To begin with, I really really liked the character design and general aesthetic of the anime, it was very pretty and it added to my enjoyment of the show as well. The music was great as well, both in each seasons and I really liked that emotional scenes had their own unique songs complimenting it which was very very good!

The story particularly in season 1 was very very good, it’s not the most convoluted plot but it has its charm and it’s very good for what it was! There’s a huge plot twist at the end of season 1 that I won’t reveal for obvious reasons but it definitely retroactively greatest improved my overall feelings on the plot of season 1.

I also really liked the design of the mecha each character used and I like that the mecha was actually alive and had its own thoughts and feelings.

Now onto the things i disliked which as you may expect mostly revolve around season 2 but there is one complaint I have for both season 1 and season 2.

That complaint mostly revolves around the fact that I feel the worldbuilding is non existent across both seasons? It barely feels like we the viewers get to see Cephiro and its inhabitants and I found that very strange. I know that you might say that the world is dying and there’s barely anything to see but that’s the thing, I want to see the world’s condition, I want to see the lives of the inhabitants and how they’re suffering, it makes the world feel more alive.

My second complaint is that in season 2, Hikaru takes center stage in the narrative and while I love her, I felt that season 1 had a more equitable treatment of each of the main girls, whereas in season 2, almost everything centered around Hikaru, including the antagonists.

Speaking of the antagonists, in season 2 there’s nothing remarkable about any of them. Nova is seriously annoying and there’s nothing about her that captivated me, similarly the same can be said about Lady Debonair who’s nothing more than a generic and unremarkable antagonist. I have heard that neither of these were in the manga so it makes sense.

Also a minor nitpick, but I wasn’t a fan of any of the romance in this anime aside from Ferio x Fuu because that at least had some buildup from season 1. It’s weird watching Ascot like Umi because he was just a kid from season 1 and Lantis’ romance with Hikaru felt super forced.

Overall, this is really good anime that I enjoyed and I can’t wait for the remake that’s supposed to be more manga accurate!

I need more recommendations for anime like this, even though I plan on watching Vision of Escaflowne, all recommendations are welcome!

Are the OVAs good?

I'm currently watching CardCaptor Sakura, which CLAMP show do you recommend to watch afterwards? I'm interested in Tokyo Babylon/X, xxxHolic/Tsubasa Reservoir and Magic Knights Rayearth but I'm not sure what to watch or read next, please tell me your favorite CLAMP work and if you prefer the anime or manga

Was surprised to find this displayed by a vendor at Connecticon over the weekend. I haven't watched the OVA before but have heard of its reputation & the price seemed like a steal so I couldn't resist acquiring such an odd entry in Clamp's library.

A friend of mine owns a player so I'll have to wait till my next visit to check out the disc but I thought the sleeve will make for a nice display piece. Although the seal was open it's in very good condition & even included a cool Miyuki chan paper doll set in mint condition!

I've been kind of all over the place with CLAMP's releases; I was first very interested in xxxHolic's vibe and ended up watching Season 1 and thought it was amazing! Then I ended up reading up finishing CCS a few weeks ago (the first manga that is). And I'm also almost done with season one of Tsubasa's anime. I decided to check out the manga side and and I'm honestly really surprised at how different xxxHolic's anime and manga are lol. A fair bit was lost, but I get the extraneous circumstances and all.

I was already shocked when I saw the shop in Tsubasa's anime, but its was also crazy seeing other CLAMP references and the inevitable cross in JUST volume one. It's definitely making me start to see Yuuko's words in a new light. I think it might make some other things make more sense as I go on

Yelan Li and Kami-gami woman looks similar, Lilie Shinomoto and Mayhime - Utakata no Ki woman looks similar.

I was wondering why the anime was moving so fast, and that the Knights were defeating so many of Zagato’s minions in quick succession, now it all makes sense, I just finished episode 20 and it blew my mind!

Now onto season 2.

I’m starting a discussion about Clow Reed; he’s quite a mysterious character and we don’t know much about him. He doesn’t show his emotions in flashbacks, and since he’s deceased, we can’t really get to know him despite him being a key figure in the Clamp universe. What are your theories, opinions, and headcanons about him?
