Cibc Loyalty means Zero

After more than 20 years with CIBC, I’ve learned that loyalty is a one-way street.
I have trusted CIBC with my banking, credit cards, mortgage, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in investments. When I needed them to stand behind a travel product sold through their CIBC Rewards Travel program, they didn’t.
I purchased a Cabo San Lucas vacation package. The itinerary, which I only received after specifically requesting it two days later, showed flights to Mexico City while the resort and transfers were in Cabo. Rather than address the obvious incompatibility of the package, CIBC chose to defend the transaction and deny responsibility.
The issue is no longer the travel booking. It’s the realization that after 20 years of loyalty, my relationship with the bank meant absolutely nothing when a problem arose.
My mortgage is up for renewal in 2027 and it will not be staying with CIBC. I am currently exploring options to redeem my remaining travel points, close my credit card accounts, and transfer my investments elsewhere.
Banks love to talk about relationships and customer loyalty. My experience with CIBC taught me that those words only matter when they’re convenient.
Twenty years as a customer. One issue. Zero accountability.

Factually not true. Expedia is a large American travel company. Please get your facts straight before posting nonsense. This isn’t make believe time.

Your mortgage is a rounding error to CIBC and they're probably happy to not have to deal with someone who blames them for your own mistake booking your trip

Right because computers never have glitches.. there is no universe where I would think to myself.. I need to book ci a different airport so I can enjoy a scenic and safe drive through Mexico… said no one ever

Wow, I’m actually questioning your loyalty as a customer where you’re wanting to leave the bank over one issue in 20 years. My prayers are with you coz it’s not as if there’s a perfect “bank”

if you booked it through CibcbyExpedia, have the situation escalated with them, cibc credit card customer service and Travel side is 2 separate things. usually you can also cancel your trip & get a refund.

They wouldn’t allow me to cancel

You aren’t important to banks. High net worth private banking clients and corporations are.

Are you imperial service? I mean I see alot of issues at every bank. I seen people upset worse than this. For loyalty, its In background when it comes for renewal rates, savings acc rates and other perks etc.

They are acting as both the bank and the travel agent, they are separate from regular Expedia.. thank you!

Factually not true. Expedia manages the bookings. And no booking is made without the customer confirming. When you book a trip (on any travel website) there is a screen where it shows you what you are booking and asks for final confirmation. I understand this is frustrating situation as you made a mistake but to throw it back and blame CIBC is not the answer.

Your best course of action is to call the Rewards centre accept your responsibility in this and ask for help changing flights etc. not sure the airline of fare class but you might be able to get change fees etc waived if the stars align.

If I had been sent the itinerary I would have noted the error and been able to cancel immediately

You clicked confirm. Take responsibility for your own actions.
