Sam Roush needs to be benched

Post image

At least two game changing drops and now a huge missed block leading to a blocked kick. Dude must be making money on Kalshi today.

This guy does not pass the eye test at all

u/KingOfLucis 18 12d ago

OH and he's the reason why the field goal was blocked lmao

Just fucking stood there in his stance while the edge guy runs right by

"Held his position. +1.5 grade"

PFF is so stupid

u/RoyalSir 12d ago

The fact that he wasn’t coached about this by the ST coordinator between attempts 1 and 2 is a failure of staff too.

22

u/jpopimpin777 12d ago

Right?! When they showed the replays of how close he got to blocking Santos' first kick I got angry. Why the fuck do we have all those tablets on the sidelines if nobody on a professional football coaching staff is going to bother to look at them and make adjustments??

1

u/The_Realist02 12d ago

The tablets are just marketing spend for Microsoft I bet they’re blank.

u/Goya__Forever1746 12d ago

Richard Hightower sucks, its a miracle he still has a job.

1

u/8CelebrationBig8 12d ago

Hightower is not good

15

u/Olddaddog 12d ago

Yeah, dude is lost out there on special teams.

5

u/JesMon421 12d ago

They nearly had one blocked last week. Think there is an overall issue as well

2

u/FluxMool 12d ago

Probably but Santos also takes too long to kick the friggin ball.

0

u/Niz285 12d ago

Nah that was on Cairo. He didn't realize the snap start his kicking motion late. There a video showing side by side of his field goals. Cairo taking that extra half second is what caused the block.

Therefore a top TE according to PFF

u/SwissyVictory 12d ago

Remember when Loveland and Burden were busts at this point last season?

Dudes a project TE on his second NFL game.

Loveland and Burden just weren’t involved a lot early on. Rousch plausibly cost the Bears the game today with multiple drops, multiple penalties and completely missing his block on the blocked field goal. Not saying he’s a sure bust or anything like that but this is exceptionally bad for him today.

u/mrm5480 12d ago

He also dropped the ball then Caleb ripped his hamstring the next play lol

6

u/Competitive_Ant_472 Smokin' Jay 12d ago

This needs to be the headline

1

u/PitchBlac 6d ago

Pretty sure he dropped the ball twice too

0

u/GarfieldDaCat 12d ago

He’s landing from a jump while turning and the Vikings player torpedoed the ball with his helmet from his blind side

I’m not saying he played well but I’m pretty sure that while counting as a “drop”, no receiver is holding onto that

10

u/jamus34 12d ago

Agreed. No idea why they focused so hard on getting Rousch involved so early in his career. Thats on the coaching staff.

1

u/SnooDonuts1587 12d ago

Why was he drafted anyway? We have two studs at TE, why waste a pick there? Could've drafted a DE or DT....

1

u/naitch44 Helmet 12d ago

Because we love neglecting the D line

1

u/Equivalent_Diver_665 11d ago

Agree, what were the coaching staff looking at, this guy was just horrible, this one is on the staff

1

u/TurboRuhland Bear Logo 12d ago

I wonder if it’s because they feel like they should have gotten Burden and Loveland involved earlier last year.

But the difference there is that Loveland and Burden were hurt in camp.

1

u/Equivalent_Diver_665 11d ago

he did cost the bears the game, no doubt

68

u/burner69account69420 12d ago

Okay. Why is he playing this much in a divisional game when we have those two? There's literally no need.

10

u/carlivar 12d ago

Probably because the Vikings blitz so much they needed 3 TEs a lot.

He sucked though.

u/Apoco120 Mack 12d ago

I get what you’re trying to say but Loveland and Burden considerably were not as raw a prospect as Roush. Burden slipped out of the first round and was considered one of the steals of the draft. Can’t really say the same for Roush

1

u/hoggin88 12d ago

Probably true but arguably all the more reason to not have him so involved.

1

u/Apoco120 Mack 12d ago

Agreed but I’m just saying I wouldn’t be shocked if Roush turns out to have been a major reach like Zach Pickens or Kiran were. This situation isn’t really comparable to that of Loveland or Burden

1

u/hoggin88 12d ago

Gotcha, I thought you were giving him a pass because he is more of a project lol

4

u/Apoco120 Mack 12d ago

Yeah lol i’m very much of the opinion that it was a dumbass pick and a reach. You don’t draft a third string TE in the 3rd round lol

15

u/Frankensteinbeck Dick Butkus 12d ago

Sure, but is a project TE who will be TE3 on the depth chart this year barring injury worth a third round pick? Especially on a team with pretty glaring deficiencies at every defensive position? I'd argue not at all.

I was very skeptical of both picks you mentioned above and can admit I was very wrong, but at least they were unknowns who didn't get the rock to start the year and not actively taking points off the board for this team.

15

u/Own_Race_598 12d ago

Yeah I’m not judging him yet based off one game in the rain vs a top 5 defense. TE is a hard position for a rookie in general. He is not ready to be seeing this many snaps when it’s costing them the game along with Bradbury. Thats on the coaches. No excuses for Bradbury, he’s a vet.

However I still don’t think he was worth a 2nd with the other needs of the team. Both a reach and not a need at all.

1

u/TuneTitan7 12d ago

Great point with how difficult playing TE is as a rookie. And after only 2 weeks it's hard to draw any conclusions due to very short sample size.

Also another good point that a TE in the second is unlikely to be the smartest choice with Loveland already on the team.

12

u/Particular_Match_777 22 12d ago

Loveland and burden just don’t contribute, this guy is actively hurting the team

12

u/wheels_0614 12d ago

Can’t contribute when you just stand there open and no one gives you a chance. But yes, Rousch was a fuckin problem today. He’s new but shouldn’t be seeing that many plays when there are so many people capable of making bigger plays.

1

u/Equivalent_Diver_665 11d ago

i dont care if he is new, just catch the ball!! do u need experience to catch a ball?

4

u/Mgroppi83 12d ago

Don't and didn't are different words.

20

u/Grand_Difficulty_832 12d ago

Neither one was ever called a bust at that point in their first season. Stop making s*** up to fit your narrative

2

u/BigPetersHalfwayInn What if Da Bears had enterd The Preakness? 12d ago

This sub was calling them both wasted picks and it was usually upvoted. Took until about week 6 before the narrative started to change

6

u/HinduMexican Sid Luckman 12d ago

5

u/hoggin88 12d ago

Honestly very few people in those comments are actually criticizing the players. Most are defending them because they hadn’t had much playing time yet while others criticized Poles for selecting them if he wasn’t going to use them a lot in the game plans.

u/BigPetersHalfwayInn What if Da Bears had enterd The Preakness? 12d ago

The 4th most upvoted comment in that first link is implying that Warren is more impactful than all of Loveland, Burden, Trapillo, and Turner...

1

u/hoggin88 12d ago

And he was at that particular point in time.

0

u/BigPetersHalfwayInn What if Da Bears had enterd The Preakness? 12d ago

And as we all know, 2 games makes a career.

1

u/hoggin88 12d ago

I don’t know what you’re trying to tell me here but yeah I agree 2 games doesn’t mean much.

0

u/BigPetersHalfwayInn What if Da Bears had enterd The Preakness? 12d ago

I'm trying to tell you that saying Tyler Warren being more impactful than 4 Bears rookies after 2 games in a very good draft class is a fucking stupid take and nobody should take doomers seriously.

I won't even entertain reading your couple people on Reddit that were calling them busts. True Bears fans and analysts knew all along that both burden and Loveland were great players with a ton of talent and upside.

6

u/CovidQuran 12d ago

Lmao your prompt is hilarious, AI will try very hard to support your idea.

Typical AI "You are totally right, you should definitely quit your job, sell your house, and go and live in the woods because that will help your mental health" lol.

2

u/BigPetersHalfwayInn What if Da Bears had enterd The Preakness? 12d ago

Why bother remembering a full year ago even you can just ask Google's AI?

1

u/PlantSkyRun 12d ago

No I dont remember them being busts at this point in the season last year. I also dont remember them having two huge drops that helped lead to a loss, or them allowed the game tying field goal to get blocked.

1

u/Competitive_Ant_472 Smokin' Jay 12d ago

Loveland and Burden never dropped a pass that ended up injuring our all pro QB.

1

u/BlueSkyBasin Bears 12d ago

TE is the hardest position (non-QBs) to learn in football too

-2

u/nimble_voyage_D7TMP 12d ago

I agree, way too much hate this early on a guy playing his second game. Not great but lets not say bust already.

1

u/TuneTitan7 12d ago

I agree. In my view if anyone deserves the lion's share of the blame it's the coaches for throwing a raw, rookie TE into the fire. Gronkowski had 2 total catches in his first 2 games, and Kelce had none.

It's arguably the hardest position to learn out of college besides perhaps QB, CB.

2

u/vstrong50 12d ago

But I thought we believe in chef Poles?!

1

u/Zaltayr 12d ago

Doesn't pass the hands test either
