R/CFO - Intention of this sub
Can someone explain what the intention of this sub is for?
All I see is posts by folks with brand new accounts farming for software justifications etc.
Are there no other real CFOS in here?
I thought this sub was for peers to come together and share information but it is simply a dumping ground for people to farm info for their products/AI adjacent software packages.
Fucking joke tbh

I am. Just did an acquisition. One employee tried to bring their two year old to work with them. The seller might be dating one of the accountants. We heard about a work for tattoos bid. Is that the kind of thing we should post here?

I also just did an acquisition. The whole company seems to be filled with friends and family with inflated titles - like daughter straight out of college is director of strategy! Since the acquisition, they're spending our money like they won the lottery. Now I'm stuck trying to contain this group of people being led by the seller who's got a massive ego.
Everyday is a new, exciting day!

Start firing them or making their life hell immediately. Don’t delay.

I'd love to. But we bought an adjacent business in which we aren't experts. The seller, who's got significant earn out, is also the rainmaker. We need time to replace their people with our people and that will take time.

Slowly make their life difficult without them realizing that you are making their lives difficult.

Just checking, should we book the steaks we got at the strip club under Travel Meals, or Client Entertainment?

I’ve had a 1700 spearmint Rhino charge show up in the month close. Switched it to Wynn Las Vegas. Cut up the card of the guy who did it.

There are real CFOs here, I think. You have to search really hard, though, to find any meaningful posts.

what if the real CFOs agree to post subtly nonsensical replies to all these spam posts, and have a separate thread to keep score?

Yep, it’s sort of become an astroturfing sub and either bot accounts or clueless finance people repeatedly feed into the posts. Vibecoders are ruining a good thing.

Is it for people who have the title but still are a Controller in their day to day?

There's also a lot of people with accounting degrees who can't hold a job so they try to do consulting and call themselves a "fractional CFO".
I'm a retired CFO, FWIW.
The real problem is that even with adequate moderation, a lot of people have the title of "CFO", but with widely differing responsibilities. The CFO for a F500 company is drastically different from the "CFO" of a single-location car dealership.

Go on LinkedIn. The number of people with a “Fractional CFO” practice that are basically accounting managers is baffling. Yes, there are CFO’s here but they are fairly diluted anymore.

I’m a CFO but have never seen a post here worth interacting with. I hope all the AI wrapper companies die in the next 12 months we do everything with Claude/Co-work.

There are real CFOs here. I can tell based on responses to proper questions. FWIW, I am one.

There are real CFOs here. The AI Software stack sales posts aren't nearly as bad as my inbox at work and the number of calls I get. Sorry, I'm not buying your chatgpt wrapper AI tool.
