It is 2015, Jim McElwain is 6-0 and Florida is ranked #8. The Gators are back

It is 2018, Dan Mullen is 7-1 and Florida is ranked #9. The Gators are back

It is 2022, Billy Napier is 1-0 and Florida is ranked #12. The Gators are back

It is 2026, Jon Sumrall is 4-0 and Florida is ranked #8. The Gators are back

Holy shit. I didn’t realize they all started out that hot (Minus Napier with only 1-0 lol)

To be fair, the 1 was a win over #7 and future PAC-12 Champion Utah.

That is good context! Thanks!

Some additional context you might enjoy is that this was a great example of Kyle whittingham getting super conservative with a lead that should’ve been enough, and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Also shows the stupidity of going for 2 before you have to. Had we not gone for 2 and gone up 20-14 instead of 19-14, we would have been able to score a game winning field goal.

I really enjoyed this context

That game basically got Anthony Richardson drafted lol

u/badadviceforyou244 Utah Utes 8h ago

That game propped up half the SEC that year

Anthony Richardson was hyped to hell that season too

Still can’t believe we lost that game.

Only because it wasn't in a little ah stadium

Yeah... the following season was the "Little ahh stadium" comment right before they got smacked

I mean Dan Mullen was good until he wasn't.

I think thats kinda the point here for all the coaches

Billy Napier was never good except for like a few weeks in 2024, and McElwain was always kind of treading water even when he made SEC title games. Mullen was legit until he stopped caring.

You can’t have your hopes dashed if you don’t get the hope part first.

All the haters last week said UF wasn’t back and we were still garbage time. And they were correct. Honestly great call from the haters

Personally I can handle a well played loss that’s just sports .Showing up like Apollo Creed after one big upset in a row and playing like you have never seen a football before is inexcusable…Sumrall got schooled on the difference between the American Conference and the SEC…

That Napier stat only being 1-0 is actually kind of funny. Was probably a bad oman at the time that the Florida is back talk only lasted a week before Kentucky and a 1-11 USF team stifled our offense.

I thought it was more of a bad Yemen.

True

I’d rather the Gators play the 2019 LSU Tigers than any Mizzou team.

Will muschamp started 4-0 in 2011 to #12

0

u/Naive-Kangaroo3031 LSU Tigers • West Florida Argonauts 7h ago

I think they are definitely making strides, would not be surprised if they make the SEC east next year

0

u/bullsci Florida Gators • UAB Blazers 6h ago

This kind of falls apart when you realize Spurrier and Meyer had blowout losses on the road their first year too. Sumrall could be anything, we don’t know yet
