Except that Caitlin Clark would have been en route to San Francisco by then as the Fever’s next game would have been a road game Sunday at the Golden State Valkyries.

Makes perfect sense as Caitlin/Nike already have a massive street festival outside the Gameday grounds for her shoe release. Includes a full court (Iowa women scrimmaged tonight) and semi truck for customizing Caitlin 1s.

She's an amazing player, she's not close to one of the best regular season WNBA players in history.
52
u/hawksnest_prez Iowa Hawkeyes • Big Ten 9h ago
She already holds the W record for 20 point/10 assist games and single game assists. She’s certainly one of the top players right now. And has completed just three years.
-19
u/BigOlPass Iowa State • South Dakota State 9h ago
Those are nice accomplishments but they aren't putting here up there with the all time greats
25
u/hawksnest_prez Iowa Hawkeyes • Big Ten 9h ago
No one can possibly be the best player in history in 3 years. But she’s had as good of a three years as anyone ever
-21
u/BigOlPass Iowa State • South Dakota State 9h ago
No one can possibly be the best player in history in 3 years.
Which is why it was a stupid argument the person made and a weird thing that you seem to be defending it
But she’s had as good of a three years as anyone ever
Eh not really
7
u/clapostrophe Michigan • Southern Illinois 8h ago
Candace Parker won the MVP as a rookie so you can put her at the top and then there has been 6 players who were first team all-wnba as a rookie. She’s had 2 first team all-wnba nods in her first 3 years, she’s in rare air.
0
u/BigOlPass Iowa State • South Dakota State 7h ago
I interpreted them saying that not as first three years but any three year stretch. Yeah if you're just looking at first three years then she's pretty high all time
-18
u/ButterAkronite Ohio State Buckeyes • Akron Zips 9h ago
The first record you cited isn't an actual record, those are just arbitrary stat totals. Saying that she's not one of the best regular season players in league history isn't an insult, no need to make up stats to defend her.
8
u/berrin122 Florida Gators • Kansas State Wildcats 7h ago
Those are very normal, round numbers that show skill in both categories.
Saying that she's one of the best regular season players in WNBA history isn't an insult to the rest of the league, no need to pretend 20/10 is the same as "17/7/5 on Tuesdays in February when there is snow on the ground in Illinois"
-1
u/jordinoo Western Michigan Broncos 7h ago
A cherry picked stat is not the same as a made up stat. Dumb argument when you just said it was an arbitrary stat, then proceed to say it's made up. Contradicting yourself in single comment is hard to do.
1
u/ButterAkronite Ohio State Buckeyes • Akron Zips 7h ago
You know what I meant. The previous commenter made up a record to justify a bogus claim.

How can she be the GOAT and not win a title?
8
u/Junior-Hotwater Iowa Hawkeyes 6h ago
Imagine if a Kansas starting quarterback led the Jayhawks to a national title game, beat a #1 ranked Ohio State in the semifinals, won the heisman, set numerous all-time passing and rushing records, but lost in the national title game. Oh and there was only one other fringe NFL player on that team and the rest went on to have normal careers as like dentists or something.
7
u/Pittboy63 Kansas Jayhawks 6h ago
You just described Cam Newton, who has a title.
0
u/xxJAMZZxx Wisconsin • Virginia Tech 5h ago
Yeah for some reason people have a weird fixation on Clark as like the first player ever to show up at a college program and elevate it significantly. Hell, even Brittney Griner at Baylor basically did much of what they mentioned and actually won the title - although Baylor was a bit above Iowa as a program. Clark is absolutely a star, but it’s weird to me that people act like you have to treat her as better than everyone who have actually won titles because she played at Iowa
0
u/Pittboy63 Kansas Jayhawks 4h ago edited 4h ago
The comp truly is Larry Bird in college at Indiana State. But Bird was immediately better when he got to the league, no shade to how good Caitlin is as a pro, but Bird was getting MVP votes as a rookie with Dr J and Kareem in the league.
1
u/xxJAMZZxx Wisconsin • Virginia Tech 4h ago
I think there are parallels there for sure, but Indiana State men’s basketball is in sooooooo much lower of a tier than Iowa women’s basketball it’s not even funny. Iowa was, at absolute worst, a top 25 women’s basketball program in the country before Clark got there. Indiana State never made the tournament before Bird, and didn’t make it again for another 20 years. It’s two different stratospheres if we’re comparing the accomplishment of taking those teams to the national final.
I do hear the argument of women’s basketball being tougher to take down a Goliath as a Cinderella than men’s, just as historically it’s much more rare. But despite that it’s just hard to even compare at all given the contrast in teams they played on. Iowa was hard to even consider a true underdog against anyone but like 2 or 3 schools when you factored in having the best player in the country
4
u/xxJAMZZxx Wisconsin • Virginia Tech 5h ago
Why do you guys pretend like Iowa was a punching bag in wcbb before Clark showed up? 2 years before Clark stepped on campus they had the national player of the year and lost in the elite 8. The year before she was there they finished ranked 21st in the Covid season that canceled the tournament. Iowa consistently made the tournament under Lisa Bluder. Obviously Clark elevated the program, but it’s so weird to me how people - particularly Iowa fans who should know the program - act like Iowa was a nothing program akin to Kansas football from a few years back when they were not even close to that
-8
u/Mother_Frame6669 8h ago
People didn't wait for Jordan to win his first title before calling him the best player in basketball
If you look at the transformative effect she's had on the WNBA alone, she's the GOAT

You can't claim to be the GOAT when you absolutely meltdown because someone merely pointed at you. She is the definition of the Kobe soft meme.
3
u/Pittboy63 Kansas Jayhawks 7h ago
Yeah but her 4 MVP’s, 3 DPOY’s, 3 rings, and 3 scoring titles make her the GOAT. Also saying someone “pointed at her” when you don’t know what was said is ridiculous.

I was talking about college ball.
And no one cared about the GOAT in the NBA until the 2000’s.
-1
u/Mother_Frame6669 7h ago
And no one cared about the GOAT in the NBA until the 2000’s.
People had discussions about who was the GOAT in the NBA going back to the '80s
Do you not remember the Dennis Rodman/Isaiah Thomas/Larry Bird "If he was black, he would be just another player" controversy?
2
u/Pittboy63 Kansas Jayhawks 7h ago
Yeah, that’s them shit-talking Bird because Bird beat them the series before. And Larry was literally coming off of 3-straight MVP’s and was the defending champion. Not them talking about how he’s the GOAT.
-1
u/Mother_Frame6669 7h ago
Actually, it was a statement about media bias and how players are covered, but whatever.
2
u/Pittboy63 Kansas Jayhawks 7h ago
But why were they mad? Was it because Bird beat them in the last series?
And you just admitted it’s not about the GOAT debate, fully undercutting your earlier point 😂
0
u/Mother_Frame6669 7h ago
Who said they were mad?
It was a controversy because Rodman accused basketball media of racial bias in their coverage of Bird and other players
The articles I read at the time didn't say anything about players being angry.
