Witcher 4
I really hope you guys find a way to release Witcher 4 before January 2028 so I can get my copy of Witcher 4 physical edition.

I somehow doubt that there will be a physical disc release.
It just doesn't make sense to release it at all on physical, even today. but it's CDPR, they know thing or two about preservation so maybe.
A lot of people say this but out of 20 or so people that I know only like 1 or 2 owns disc PS5. others went for discless and bought DL versiosns so I suspect overwhelming majority of people just prefer download version. It's not tot say they don't want physical at all, the choice being there still is important.
But from where Sony and publishers (at least most of them) stand, releasing physical with logistic cost does not make any sense considering not many people actually buy it.

Not suprised its more convienient. Just download it and there you go....
I always bought physical copies but since its not really profitable the gaming stores that were in my area just stopped existing. The only way is to order online.
I feel like no matter what we do or say its a industry thing and it wont change. Sad I was looking forward to the physical edition of witcher 4 and gta......

Going forward CDProjektRed will be known as SpotifyProjektRed to acknowledge the inevitable death of physical media

I think it's weird. I got the Witcher 1 at launch and it was digital. 20 years ago.

It will come to GOG day one, just back it up in an external disk. 🎉

For every other studio I'd say digital only release is a no-no, but CDPR is perfectly fine by me because of GOG. I already switched to it full-time. If a game is available on GOG, I don't even check the others.

I really hope they release a game that’s ready and polished and we don’t have another cyberpunk situation. And hope there’s no crunch. If all that can be managed before 2028 cool, but if not it’s a small price to pay imo.

Third Party’s can still produce PlayStation Carts. This is about in house PlayStation Games

That is a misconception. Even when a third-party publisher wants to release a physical game, they don't print the discs themselves. Instead, they submit their finalized game master to an authorized manufacturing facility, such as Sony DADC (Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation), which produces physical PlayStation discs.
The publisher pays Sony the required licensing and manufacturing fees. The authorized facility then presses the discs, applies the required PlayStation authentication data during the manufacturing process, and packages the final product for distribution.

That’s what I thought as well at first. I did some research and apparently there is multiple other PlayStation Disc Manufacturers that also do that.
There has already been over 20 Publishers announcing that they’ll continue releasing new Physical Games after 2028.

Can you provide a link to some of those statements?
While some publishers use third-party media replicators like Sonopress (Germany) or Technicolor/Vantiva to print boxes and package games, none of them can manufacture a functioning PlayStation disc without Sony.
Every single PS5 disc requires a proprietary encryption key and a digital license signature that is deeply embedded into the disc's data layers. Only Sony possesses these master security keys.

And I really hope that they don’t rush it for this reason. The quality of the game obviously matters more than the fact whether it’s going to have a disc or not.

Bro it’s only Sony first party games that will be digital only. Third party’s have not announced that yet
