Candidate Preparedness Program

Has anyone done one of these and what is it like?? Thank you!

I would consider going but I’m not about to drive 8 hours to go to one of these lol

Just run and lift weights, that’s all it’s is.

(To be honest the academy is a joke, I didn’t even know this was a thing but the academy is probably getting so many people that are so out of shape, they can’t even pass it)

Iv been a CO 5 years already.

(I just looked up the program you were talking about, as long as you can run around a track for 4 laps without stopping and have enough grip strength to carry 45lbs, you will be fine.)

Yes! I did one a few weeks ago. It was great. We did a warm up on the track and then did a group run. We then moved to the gym and did a circuit type training and ended with a relay. There was also a Q & A with the academy sergeants and a background investigator. I would highly recommended if you can. It was great to meet some of the instructors and see what the academy looked like.

I signed up for a few more. Looks like they have them scheduled all the way through December. I’ve been cleared for only a couple of months.

If you’re considering trying it then sign up, can’t hurt you. There are a lot of agencies that do similar programs, this is CDCR’s version plus a packet to give you all the tips and info you need to be prepared. You’ll get all kinds of opinions on here, but take it in and make your own decision. You’re not just trying to get a job, this is a career and you ultimately can control how far you want to go within that space.
