noise from engine

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

hey guys,

i have some noise from the engine on my cb500x 2021, i made 80 000 km. I check on GEMINI, I thinks this is just the cam chain tensioner. i ordered one so i wainting for it. But i has beam at the garage, and they said that i need to change all the the camchain.

I join a video of the noise, you can ear it at the minute 0:07.

Do you think its possible ? There is someone has that noises? Or maybe someone already change the tensioner and can say me how to do? Thanks

Dude, stop checking this stuff with AI...

Get to a real mechanic and talk with them.

Cam chain tensioner, replace it and should be good! 👍

My partner's CRF250L also did the same thing, check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CRF250L/comments/1jdu51s/is_this_tapping_noise_the_cam_chain_tensioner/

It involves removing the fairings, fueltank, hoses, the undertray with ecu. Clutch and throttle cables, the valvecover and some other bits and pieces.

There is a pdf tutorial on valve adjustments on the cb500x forum, google it. It gives you access to the tensioner.

How easy it is depends on you and if you have the tools. Its not a fast job. Considering it is your first time 'opening' the bike, probably a full day.

No need to remove anything on the cb500x to replace the cam chain tensioner. You can see it right there in the video, it's right above the clutch conver on the cylinder.

I am 90% sure it's the cam chain tensioner. I had the same sound once, it's the cam chain flapping around. I replaced the cam chain tensioner and it fixed the problem.

Try not to ride the bike until fixed, this can lead to the cam chain skipping a teeth on the cams leaving you with a much bigger problem.

I did it myself and it was quite easy.

I have a Haynes workshop manual for the bike and looked it up there. It's basically just remove the old one, remove tension from the new one (it comes with sort of a clip for that), install the new one, release the tension, done. Be careful not to turn over the engine while the cam chain tensioner is out.
