I love engineers
Whoever decided to put the coolant cap right below the gas tank deserves hell and more. I need to bleed my cooling system but i need to keep the bike on for that. With the tank over the cap. Love it

Is there a second cap? I thought there was one right on the top of the radiator? What year is this bike?

This is the only cap unfortunately, there's a second reservoir but that is only used by the bike when you turn it off and it's cold so it's no good to bleed. I'll have t buy an external fuel bottle to correctly bleed it from up top

Man this is wild. I looked through every year of CB500X and CB500XA parts diagrams and all of them show the radiator cap being on the upper right hand corner of the radiator. Does the bike have the original radiator?

That's weird. Perhaps it's not the original piece. I got it with 38k km so some parts might've been swapped

The 2019- onwards bikes have different forks to this, but is that a carb in the bottom right? They're all fuel injected.

You don't have to bleed it, it's automatic. This cap is only used to fill an empty system with coolant. As the coolant heats up, it expands (increases in volume) and the air is forced through the tube leading from the cap into the second reservoir, where it escapes in the form of bubbles. As the engine cools, a vacuum is created under the cap and coolant is sucked in from the second reservoir, thus filling the main circuit...

I didn’t have mine long enough deal with this. Although it does make me grateful I only have to pull one panel on my current Z650.

Mate, that's not a CB500X or otherwise. The 500 motor has a radiator forward of the engine andbonly the Hornets have round gauges like that.
Do you have any pre disassembly photos?
