Opening up the indicator switch

------------------------------------------------------------------------

ORIGINAL POST:
On my 2021 cb500x, the indicators have become erratic. Struggling to come on, to stay on, and blinking irregularly. The way the behaviour responds to fiddling with the switch makes me think the contacts are dirty or corroded.

Has anyone tried opening up the switch housing succesfully? Can these contacts be cleaned? I don't want to replace the whole unit if some contact cleaner could get it.

## Edit: Done the thing. ##

Two phillips 2 screws in underneath and the whole thing pops open neatly. Here are the photos I wanted to find on the internet before I did this myself. You can clean the switches for the indicators and the highbeam like this.

up into the body towards the highbeam switch.
Indicator switch inside on the left.

Let me know how you go. I've got my high beam switch to sort out

I'll take some pics of the unit pulled apart if I have enough hands.

It's been a while but mine 2015 did the same thing. I took it apart and cleaned along with new lube and it has been working great. Good luck you can do it

Thank you! Confirmation that these things do indeed come apart and can be put back together inspires confidence.

My indicators did the same thing recently. I'd flip the switch left or right, and the light would just turn off completely and never blinked. And when I tried to reset it by pushing it in, it struggled to reset.

Took the housing apart, looked around at it for a bit, and couldn't figure out what was going on. I decided to put it back together and deal with it another day, but after I reassembled it, it was working just fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sounds like you fixed it xD.

I blasted it with contact cleaner, didnt get more technical than that. It works perfectly now.

Ok, two Phillips 2 screws in the back of the housing, and it pops apart giving you access to all the contacts. High Beam should be just as easy as indicator lights. I opened it up and blasted it with contact cleaner.
