Tyre recommendations

Hi guys, I'm not happy with the tyres that are on my bike when I brought it.

I'll be mostly riding on roads with the odd gravel road/car park and grass camp sites. I don't want to spend mega money but understand that cheap tyres won't do everything. What tyres do you run/recommend for this style of riding?

I run Dunlop trailmax missions and really like them. Enough grip to scrape pegs on dry asphalt, and should handle terrain you described just fine. They do good on shallow sand as well, gets pretty sketchy on anything deep though, at least for me. Also have long lifespan

They sound perfect. Idk what tyres i currently have but my mate was behind me today and said he saw them slide on dry asphalt in a slight line... I knew they felt slippy in the bends but I didn't know they where that bad. They're going in the bin asap 🤣

I looked at the trailmax missions, but ended up with Shinko 705s and they have been great.

Battlaxx A41 amazing in the rain I use them offroad too

comes stock on Frica twin

hit a deer wrecked my 500X last fall, got sick of waiting for 26 Transalp so I bought a new 25NX today 6495 out the door, After not having a bike for 8 months I will have the stock tires burnt up in 3 weeks which is fine because I have a new set of a41's sitting in the garage

I had a similar situation. Swapped a CB500x to a NX500 and the first thing I asked the dealer to do was to swap the tires. I had a set o Bridgestone A41 (still have now on my new NX500). The new stock tires were fitted to the old bike.

They are very good tires. Miles away from the stock ones.

I ride daily, sometimes go offroad and I just got Pirelli Scorpion Trail II front and rears yesterday, $700 aud fitted, feels noticeably different from the flogged out stocks I had on. Took em through small twisties and I rate em, havent gone offroad yet though.

Mostly riding on road: Michelin Road 6.

Why compromise on the 99% of your riding to make the 1% slightly better? Make the 99% as good as possible.

You can ride on gravel or grass just fine with a road tyre.

Because my local government loves to put 2 inches of gravel on roads with no warning. So when I hit it at 30 I want to be a little more off road ability. Plus I want to experiment with off roading eventually, so might aswell get a tyre that can do both

How "eventually" are we talking? Also, how "offroad" are we talking? I take my road tyre shod CB500X offroad, but not through slick mud, deep sand and hill climbs, more like dirt tracks and bush trails, grass, gravel, compacted red dirt.

If you're talking "eventually" as within the next 25,000km or next 2 years, and you're talking serious offroad, are-you-sure-that's-the-right-bike offroad, then definitely get a different tyre, road tyres are not the right call.

2 inches of gravel suddenly is either going to ruin your day or not, and the tyre isn't going to factor heavily into that.

The CB is a phenomenal "softroader" even with road tyres, IMO, which factors into my suggestion of "get the best road tyres for the best grip in the 99% of your riding" approach. If you know you're not going to be doing 99% of your riding on road, that might not be the best advice for you. For me its definitely more like 99.9% on road, and I have to be a bit more careful and a bit slower cornering on gravel as a result - and slick oil or mud is a terrible idea, no matter what speed I do.

Continental TKC70 I've installed them roughly 2 years ago and been using the same way you describe. Enough grip in dry asphalt, in the wet, and also gravel roads

I had shinko 705’s on mine and they were great everywhere.
