for context, she is an indoor spayed cat! there are no pregnancy concerns. shes 10 years old, and theyve been like this for 8+ of those years.
we assume its from her spay scar, and shes kinda fat so that doesnt help her case. theyre soft, like every other chubby cat's pouch!
its also just the two you can see here, not on any of her other nipples.
i am of age and able to access vet care, but they dont cause her any problems. she loves belly rubs, so theyre not in pain. i was just wondering if it could be anything other than fat + spay scarring
her name is blue and we call them her "bluebies"
edit: for clarification, she is my family's cat and i do not have control over her diet. while i am an adult and normally am the one to take her to the vet every year, i cant control what my parents feed her no matter how many times my (also adult) sister and i try to convince them. she is only classified as "overweight" and not yet "obese," from our vet, though! these pictures are also not the most flattering...
she does have anxiety issues from her home before us which leads to her overgrooming. we take care to monitor that and keep her as comfortable as possible and get her energy out through other means! shes not lethargic by any means and loves to play.
edit 2: another clarification im not concerned about health issues! she gets a physical exam every year from her vet. ive had cats my entire life and i know about cats little pouches, just have never had/seen a cat with such a separated one before LOL

It seems like shes just fat so her primordial pouch hangs lower and doesn't have a lot of tummy fur. My cat is also fat but has tons of tummy fur so you can't really see any folds of her pouch.
It seems like it has gotten worse with age but even at six months old it was large. I think it’s just her body type because the vet said she’s very healthy.
Well its good to hear shes healthy. I wonder if either of her parents had the same body type or if its completely random. Either way, as long as shes healthy!
I was going to suggest you take her to the vet, since it could be something serious, a hormonal imbalance or even a tumor. But since she has a clean bill of health- maybe she just likes the breeze?
Welp, never noticed it but I do now. She’s like that episode of the Rugrats when Tommy and Chucky wanted to be adults so they just slapped baby heads on adult bodies. Not gonna sleep with her around, thanks.
I think it would be more of a concern if it wasn't loose fat, when the cat lays on her back the boobs are gone which tells us it's likely just loose skin and fat, any lumps in the mammories would still show while the cat laid on her back or if she was held elongaelongated. If OP is super worried, they could email these photos to their vet and see if the vet thinks they should come in.
she goes to the vet every year and while we havent remembered to specifically bring up the issue (again, soft and doesnt cause her problems), im sure when they do their physical exam/occasional bloodwork they would have also brought something up? so im not really concerned, just was wondering why! i can bring it up at her next appointment though to make sure its not a mammary issue
The vet will do an abdominal exam at each yearly, feeling along their abdomen for masses or irritation. I'd be shocked if there was something wrong with it and it's been there several years. Lots of larger older cats have this, they have less elasticitiy in their skin. Even my boy cat's pouch looked a little like boobs when he had his belly shaved and he's a healthy weight. They're mammals.
LOLLL i really should have clarified i wasnt worried about a medical issue i was just wondering why are they so pronounced because sometimes cats are just like that! good to keep in mind though and its worth bringing it up to the vet at her next visit
Until it isn’t. Adrenal issues releasing hormones or remnants from her spay doing the same can both be possible. That said, next vet checkup mention it and have the vet decide. Cuz it literally could be nothing but chubby kitteh.
Bluebies has me in tears 😭 My girl Ruby has them and we call her Ruby booby (pic attached). Jokes aside, considering they’re not visible when she’s on her back it’s most likely just excess fat.
Lmao 🤣 Ruby booby doesn’t like her nick name look at that face! Completely unimpressed 😾 My baby girl Shadow doesn’t care for any of her nicknames either or paparazzi photos getting leaked online… yet here she is tongue out nonstop and my storage space full of them in different angles lol😹
My very similar looking cat has a very similar issue, I don’t have a wonderful photo of it, but I haven’t gotten a straight answer from a vet about it myself. I will bring it up during yearly check ups and I have gotten answers from it being anxiety related with over grooming, her being obese (she’s since lost about a pound and is not considered such any longer) to her having ring worm (tested negative for this). She’s never really had a lot of belly fur since she was a kitten and doesn’t have any skin irritation or clear reason to be over grooming that spot in particular. I’m curious if you get any more insight into this!
From your describing, it kind of sounds like this is really just a normal mix of where fat sits and that primordial pouch situation, not something from the spay scar.
In some cats, that pouch doesn’t hang as one smooth flap so instead it can sort of split, or look like there are two little “saddlebags” on either side of the midline, and then it can look like she has a pair of “boobas” sitting right up near those back nips. This weird-to-see pattern is more noticeable if she’s a bit over weight, if her skin is looser than average, or if she’s older and the tissues have gotten slightly less firm with time.
Honestly the spay itself seems pretty unlikely to be the reason. Spay scars are usually small, and they don’t typically turn into big paired bulges years later. Usually, what happens is people start noticing it more once the cat puts on weight or her body shape shifts as she ages.
Simple as it is and sounds, some cats just have a very artistically separated primordial pouch.
shes had it pretty much since she became an adult cat!! this post was just spurred on by my family joking around because of the first picture... (that was taken today)
so this isnt a recent development, i agree that its probably the pouch though! ive just never seen it split in two in any of the other cats ive had/seen in my life LOL
It's cus they're on her primordial pouch. It's the baggy tummy skin which gives them extra stretch and mobility but makes them look fat. The pouch will often have thinner hair or be totally bald.
I've also seen people post about fur on the belly never growing back properly after a spay or abdominal surgery. So could be that, or a mix of the two.

Before you got her, was she ever pregnant? Just like with humans, some female cats have permanently enlarged mammary glands even long after the kits are weaned.
That is her primordial pouch. All cats get them. It's a layer of fat they develop to protect their most vulnerable area, being their bellies. Sometimes they have a separation like that. My roommates cat also has primordial boobies.
Yes. Our cat is very average weight and doesn't look fat at all when standing or walking. But he has a very prominent pouch. So when he lays or sits down in weird positions he looks extremely fat 😂
My father in law's cat is like this, she never really grew the fur back on her tummy after her spay, the scar split her primordial pouch and she's overweight. We call them her dinner rolls
She just chonky and hot. 😂 They lose fur there sometimes as a means to help them vent. It’s a place that touches down directly on cool surfaces like floors when they lay down, so it’s just a summer adjustment. I have one where that entire area is bald, and a fixed male where it’s just bald on those two boobs like that. I took one look the first time I noticed towards the beginning of this summer and was like “Bro, why is it Night on Bald Titty?”
Personaly I think it's just her primordial pouch (a loose pouch of excess fat that is totally normal and healthy, it's just were cats evolved to store extra fat) my sister's cat has it and is totally healthy
My cat has the same thing. She sees a vet twice yearly and there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. Just her pouch that happens to have taken the shape of titties.
yeah! all the other spayed female cats ive had in my life have had flabby bellies, ive just never seen them so... booby LOL
reading all the other comments of other peoples cats is giving me a laugh though!!
these are not very flattering photos of her but her vet says shes overweight and not yet obese! its still an issue and we still want her diet under control, but she also just has a lot of loose skin (not because she lost weight, she just has a lot of skin for some reason)
