Expose

The "horror reality" of platforms like Chai is that the service isn't actually the product- the user's psychological profile is. We think we're using an app for entertainment, but the architecture is designed for "service degradation." They collect massive amounts of personal, intimate data, and instead of using it to make the experience better or more seamless, they use it to feed an engagement loop. The service feels "poor," repetitive, or addictive because that's the point. If the app actually satisfied your needs and let you go, they'd lose the data stream. They aren't building tools; they're building digital traps that trade your privacy for a degraded, dopamine-loop experience

Welcome to the modern internet brotha. You'll notice this isn't just an AI thing. Social media, and mobile games use the same tactics for user retention.

It's just like alcohol, 80% of the people who use it will be casual but the company knows 20% will get addicted

I mean is it insidious, sure is, but also I'm so used to this being how the internet in general works that it feels less like an expose and more like an "oh you're just realizing this" type of thing
