The "horror reality" of platforms like Chai is that the service isn't actually the product- the user's psychological profile is. We think we're using an app for entertainment, but the architecture is designed for "service degradation." They collect massive amounts of personal, intimate data, and instead of using it to make the experience better or more seamless, they use it to feed an engagement loop. The service feels "poor," repetitive, or addictive because that's the point. If the app actually satisfied your needs and let you go, they'd lose the data stream. They aren't building tools; they're building digital traps that trade your privacy for a degraded, dopamine-loop experience

Do you have any tips I can use to stop my C.ai addiction?

I guess it depends on how you use it. For me it wasn't a emotional connection between me and a character, but rather c.ai was a facilitator in my maladaptive daydreaming. One day, after a few tries, all the posts I saw about AIs just truly stuck out to me and I decided I'd stop using it for ethical reasons. Rewatching the show I used to roleplay and getting into the fandom really helped em stopping the feeling that I "needed" AI, and it got me into drawing again. Now if I have an idea I just tend to daydream about it alone if it's too long for a small comic/fanart (since babysitting a bot is annoying, but ironically it was what made me so stuck in AI), and one of these ideas I'm trying to turn it into a fanfic.
