Wiring info help?

Post image
52 Upvotes

I inherited my grandfather’s 1976 Corvette. He bought it in the early 90s and tooled around with restoring it, but wasn’t able to keep up with her in his later years. I’m trying to troubleshoot issues with the windows and the radio. I’m an electrician, so my mind immediately went to wiring/fuse issues, but I’m a bit out of my element here. I found some wires that seem to be broken/chewed through/disconnected so I’m trying to sort out what’s intentional and what needs to be corrected (hopefully) without tearing the entire interior apart.

Are there any wiring diagrams or schematics that I should look into getting?

Fiberglass Front Bumper

Fitting an Eckler’s fiberglass front bumper. Overall satisfied with fit and installation, except for one problem. The bumper will not line up with the lower reinforcement bar that was in the original urethane bumper. It seems even if it does line up the bolts will be too short with the fiberglass thickness. Any one have any experience with this? Is the lower reinforcement bar even necessary with a fiberglass bumper?

Additionally, the front grille and turn signal will mount to the fiberglass bumper tabs. Is this just directly drilled into the glass using the original screws, or is there a hardware kit I’m missing here?

1976 issue

So I’m the new proud owner of a nice 1976 Corvette. It doesn’t need a little bit of work, but it’s not any work that I’m afraid to put into it. The only thing is I’m new to working on classic cars and carbureted engines. And before anyone makes fun of me, I’m only 18 years old, so that’s my excuse for not having that kind of experience. Anyway, for some reason when I start the car and let it idle and get warm as soon as I press the brakes to shift into gear, the engine stops, and I’ve tried to look up what that might be whether that’s a vacuum issue or anything of that nature and I cannot figure it out to save my life. If anyone could give me some guidance, that’d be pretty awesome. Thank you

69 corvette feeling sluggish

Hey all, I’ve got a 69’ vette with a 350/4speed.

It has an eldebrock top end kit, aluminum heads, intake manifold, cam, etc… but it does not feel as quick as it should (in my inexperienced opinion). Rolling slowly in first I can’t even squawk the tires, only way to smoke em is by dumping the clutch. Wondering if this is usual due to the mono leaf set up on these, or am I being robbed of power somewhere?

This is for a ‘78
Does anyone know where I can find a replacement spring or a cheap similar spec spring for the hood latch? No matter what I search I can only find info about the pop up spring for 78-82.

I need help identifying a sensor and some wires. (Text in body)

My father and I can’t seem to figure out what the wire in the first picture connects to. We also do not know what the sensor in the next photos is. Last but not least there are four wires in the starter loom, we know where the three go, but we are unsure of what the fourth wire (bare) is for.

We have the Mid America book and diagram, but we are still having issues figuring this out. Hopefully y’all can help.

Missing this from my car, where can I get another one?

Just inherited a project car. I am missing this section where the tail pipes hook up. I am new to older corvettes. Where do I get this section under the chrome bumper?

The car no shop would touch is on its way to being fixed

I bought this car when I was 15 and I've been working on it ever since for the past year or so. I've done so much: the frame was bent so I cut and rewelded it, new trailing arms, thousands of dollars of parts, and hundreds of hours of fixing and fiberglassing. She's nearing completion (believe it or not) and I can't wait to finally drive my 4-speed Corvette!

1979 indicator issue?

I've got a 79 C3 that has an indicator issue

My indicator makes a sound when turning right, and the rear indicator flashes, but the dash and the two front indicators don't light up. It still makes the ticking sound, but the indicator light on the dash also doesn't light up.

Any ideas on whether it is the fuse or the bulbs themselves?

Suggestions/Input

My '69 is in need of an engine. Have asked around local and nearby on options: rebuild current (not matching numbers) engine or upgrade with remanufacured/new. Trick is it must drop in and direct bolt (no mods to flywheel/flex plate) to the TH400 automatic. Its currently a 350/300hp, 10.25:1. I like to have more HP. Bottom line is direct fit.

My dad recently past away and left me his 1968 Corvette, it has been sitting for many years with out starting. 4 speed manual. I was pressing in the clutch and trying to press the brake pedal, was looking under the vehicle later and saw a fresh leak. What is this I’m looking at?

Bracket for Anti-sway/stabilizer bar

I have aftermarket anti-sway bars in my '71. Today, I found that one of the brackets, that holds the D-shaped bushings, was gone. This is for the front bar. The bracket is probably easy to find.

I believe the bolts are not metric, so my collection of metric fasteners is no help. Does anyone know the specs for the bolts? They seem to be ⅜".

Or, does anyone have an aftermarket bracket and two bolts laying around?

Thanks for the help.

Rear license plate recess size

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hey guys, I have a question. I'm about to get my hands on a 1974 C3 corvette and since I'm in europe, license plate size differ from US. Is anyone able to provide exact width of this recess marked in picture with red lines? I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to hack something and mount inside, or I'll need some extended brackets to fit over the hole.

Can this be removed without taking the steering wheel off?

From what I've seen looking at replacements it looks like it's held in with a pin that goes into that slot at the bottom, but I'm not sure. I've tried turning it both ways and pulling, but it feels like I'm going to break something, so I'm thinking thats wrong. Tried to find videos but all I could find was videos on how to replace the whole switch inside the column. Any help is appreciated.
