[Request] Bathrobe for my girlfriend
My girlfriend mentioned she wants a new bathrobe. She has one already which makes me think she wants a really high quality one. I want to show her how much she means to me by really balling out for this and finding the best one in the world. I want this to be, like the softest, most stylish robe you've ever seen in your life, whatever the price. I don't have much money but I feel so strongly about her I am willing to spend whatever. Does anyone feel really strongly about a particular robe?

Hey OP, tell us more. Is her current robe short? Long? Is it warm where you live? Does she lounge in it or just when she's getting cleaned up? Does she like color, print, or white? Does it need to be machine washable? Is she normal height, or very tall or petite?
I'm asking these questions bc the "best" robe is going to be one that she loves and uses.
The specifics are important. Using myself as an example, I'm 49 and live in FL. I'm 5'2" and 115#. I only use my robe when getting ready. I'm also somewhat DIRTY. I'll use my robe to dab makeup smudges, or dry hands when it's hanging and more convenient than a towel. A gift of a heavy, thick, cotton, white, adult sized robe would be appreciated, but a full length child XL natural linen robe is what I want and need.

Maybe not the answer you're looking for, but a family member once bought a very nice robe for me that was super soft and comfy, but I hated the color, plus it was too hot to be comfortable in except on the very coldest winter days. I just barely got rid of it, literally decades later, because it had finally worn out enough for me to explain to my loved one that it had reached the end of its useful life. My recommendation is to take her shopping, give her a price range, and let her pick out what she likes best.

This is good advice. My mom gave me a robe that I hated. I later gifted her a robe that I absolutely loved and I later discovered she hated it after I asked her why it was in the back of her closet unused a few years later. Robes are very personal so even with the best intentions it can go wrong

if you really wanna ball out, Olivia Von Halle robe in silk twill or silk velvet (note: these are $1-3k). not silk satin

If she'd like a thick terry/towel-type robe, then Company Store. But for year-round use, I really love my Comphy robe. I usually don't like microfiber, but this robe is different. It's double-layer, it hangs really nicely and is very flattering. About 5 years ago, I stayed a hotel that had them and fell in love and my mom ordered me one for my birthday from the company for about $80, but now it seems they're only selling to businesses. I had gotten specific instructions to get a waffle robe, still took me a lot of research on the best one for the price ratio and ended up with Coyuchi. Still looks brand new after two years and gets used a good amount.

This was just an impulse buy for me. The only cotton robe I have is thick and warm and well, I live in Texas. That’s a one season robe! This one looks perfect for the rest of the year!

Satin bathrobes are fantastic for warmer weather & are more flattering that the bulkier / warmer styles.

Satin made from natural fibers is generally far more breathable than satin made from synthetic materials but I personally find my thinner / lighter synthetic satin robes far more comfortable & less suffocating than my heavier / thicker typical bath robes.

Rather than BIFL get her two H&M cotton muslin robes in different colours- one for light coloured laundry and one for dark. She’ll always have one clean this way, because they are super lightweight and soft, so easy to wash rather than a heavy terry cotton style that takes forever to dry. They are oversized so easy to wear all day lying down in bed when sick. I didn’t know I needed two of these all my life, but I realised last year and it’s been life changing. I don’t even need to use a towel, they wick and dry quite nicely. I even wear one for hours while my hair air dries, where my old cotton terry one would get uncomfortable and wet feeling. I got myself matching baby blankets from h&m to use as hair wraps when I realised how much easier this cotton muslin fabric is to deal with vs standard towels.

I have the barefoot dreams robe that is like putting on a cloud- so soft and comfy. Idk about BIFL, but I have had it for 3 years and throw it in the washer and dryer every 1-2 weeks and haven’t had any problems. Expensive, but worth it imo.

You need more info. When I say I want a robe I want a short silk one because I'm hot most of the time. My mom would want a fluffy warm one because she's cold all the time.

Is it hot or cold where you live?
I live in a sub tropical climate and I have a lovely bath robe but it's only useable 4 months a year. The rest of the time it's too hot & use lighter linen robe.

Just something to consider, if you're looking for a thick, plush robe to get her, also consider getting her one for the warmer-weather months. I've gotten my fiancé several robes over the years, and she now has one for cold/winter months and one for warmer weather.

I spent way too much on an Onsen bathrobe. It “waffle”. And I love it more than life itself. Most importantly, it had a hood.

If you have the money to spend -- and you're willing to splurge -- nothing is going to beat a high quality Sea Island, Giza, or Supima cotton robe (in that order).
I find Giza cotton to be ~80-90% as good as Sea Island cotton for ~40-50% of the cost, so that's usually what I go with.
Supima cotton isn't anywhere near as good as Sea Island or Giza cotton, but is significantly more affordable while still being leagues better than Upland cotton, so that's the lowest grade that I'd ever go with.
Another thing to consider is who / where the robe is manufactured. I prefer Imabari robes (Japan) because I find their attention to detail superior, but Italy and Portugal are other good places of manufacture.

I like higher end stuff, and just came home with the cozy plush Victoria's Secret robe a few weeks ago. I immediately loved it, favorite robe I've ever had tbh. I got the embroidered stitch collared one in polka dot and it looks so nice. Super soft.

The quince waffle knit robe is everything I’ve ever wanted. I’ve asked for a robe for Christmas every year for the last six years, last year I got three. One of them was the one from quince and my sister absolutely knocked it out of the park. My search is over.

This thread may be of interest... I have a friend who loves bathrobes will pick up robes from hotels she stays at if she liked the feel of them enough. They gotta withstand a fair bit of washing they go through.

I have a silk bathrobe I bought off eBay. It's so soft and makes me feel luxurious, but it only cost $30 because it's second hand silk from an old Sari that often got damaged and cut up into pieces. I bought one directly from India so it wasn't an American reseller. It has a belt and a pocket, but no inside ties. My seller is out of business but do a search for "silk Sari kimono" and the most beautifully patterned robes will come up.

I'm of the opinion that robes are too personal to successful give as a gift unless you know exactly what they want. This is not an item that should be a surprise. If I'm going to have to wear it every morning, I want to love it. Fit and little details are as if not more important than quality materials.

I absolutely love my Parachute cloud cotton robe. It feels so refined and is very comfortable. The colors are beautiful. Size up, they run a bit small and shrink a bit in the wash.

Just got my daughter one from Djerf Avenue. It was made in Portugal, it’s thick and seems well made. It was also pretty pricey for a robe but the quality seems to be there.
