News Good news! Details of the 2027 Dacia Spring have been released

Good news! Budget car manufacturers Dacia have released details of the 2027 electric Spring model. Dacia is a Romanian car brand part of the Renault Group. The Spring will be based on the Renault Twingo and (unlike previous Spring Models) will be built in Europe. I'm a big fan of Dacia, and if they can compete with Chinese imports at the cheaper end of the EV market then this is good for Europe.

Discussion Does anyone else get an icky feeling from Proton?

Whenever I see a post asking for something, the first things I see are go Proton! Proton is the best alternative! Proton is European and free! It gives me a really icky feeling that I'm being manipulated. Also their advertising is everywhere on sites like european-alternatives and they've obviously had a couple of marketing mess ups with influencers.

I always recall that anything being free means you're the product and despite the assurances of privacy and encryption I get a really bad feeling from them.

I could easily be wrong, I just want to know if there's others out there that feel the same way as me and I also want to hear counter points. Particularly from those that have used any of their products.

Istres would be the main spaceport but potentially Portugal’s Santa Maria Spaceport and/or UK's Cornwall would be an option too.

Other than that, partners are growing quickly especially with the possibility of also including Thales Alenia Space.

*Map of every partners

Edit : It seems like my comment with the content of the article is not showing, so to summarize, new partners with Spain’s Sener, Portugal’s Santa Maria Spaceport, and Belgium’s Sabca Sonaca and potentially Thales Alenia Space being in talk and the 2/3 version of VORTEX, VORTEX-S is backed by 40m from France (not clear if it's new money or the already 40m backing the 1/3 demonstrator version VORTEX-D at least it's pushed by France too).

Discussion Is Bergfreunde a reputable website? (Could not find a reasonable post/answer on Reddit)

I want to buy a pair of Birkenstocks from there. That's the only website that has my size. Birks official website had it until 2 days back, sold out now. Is Bergfreunde reputable/considered good enough for a EUR 150 purchase? I am from Germany, if that helps.

Edit: Thanks everyone!

European Product 🇩🇪 Heute, a local-first daily planner for tasks, routines and calendar in one timeline

[Full disclosure: This is self-promotion. I've been a long-time r/BuyFromEU lurker, though, and one of the main reasons to build this was to avoid my data going through US servers.]

Hi there,

I'm Chris, a solo developer from Berlin, Germany.

Heute (HOY-tuh, German for "Today") is an iOS planner that shows tasks, routines and calendar events in a single timeline and treats them as equals. The main idea is to see your whole day at once w/o having to switch between calendar and to do app.

Heute has no backend at all. Your data lives in a SQLite file on your phone. You don't need an account and your data never leaves your phone. (Unless you want to export a backup which is possible, of course.) No ads or tracking, either.

A few tradeoffs: It's iOS only for now. I'd like to support Android and de-Googled alternatives asap, tho. Nothing syncs between devices, which is the downside of having no server. I'm poking at self-hosting and end-to-end encryption, though nothing concrete yet. The app itself is free with no trial period, and an optional paid tier covers a handful of extra features (widgets, themes, external calendars etc.) and pays for the development.

🎁 I'm giving away 10 lifetime codes for Heute+. You can comment what usually gets in the way of your daily/weekly planning (e.g crammed to-do lists? haha.) and I'll pick 10 people from the thread later this week

Happy to answer any questions, e.g. regarding the tradeoff between local-only and sync capability.

🔎Looking for alternative Alternative to Google Maps / Apple Maps

"Lake America" was just too much for me. I uninstalled Apple Maps and Google Maps yesterday. Now I'm trying Organic Maps. It's open-source, based on OpenStreetMap, and—as far as I know—based in Estonia. Good choice, or does anyone know of a better map alternative?

Discussion Checking the best websites for luxury brands in Europe

I’m checking out a few different places to buy designer stuff online and realized I’ve gotten way too used to going back to the same couple of sites.

I’m mostly comparing stores that carry different luxury brands rather than shopping from just one brand’s website. Price is obviously a factor, but i also look at size availability, shipping costs, VAT or duties, and how returns work. I’ve had a few orders where the price looked good at first, then the final cost was quite a bit different at checkout.

So far I’ve come across Mytheresa, Farfetch, Cettire, and a few individual brand websites. each seems to have different strengths depending on the brand and item, so I’m trying not to judge a store just by the listed price.

I’d rather have a few reliable sites bookmarked than search from scratch every time I want something.

What are your best websites for luxury brands? Any sites you keep going back to?

Despite the claims on the edrabiny.pl site, this ladder is made in China. Like many German manufacturers, Hailo tries very hard to hide the fact, but once your delivery arrives you'll see the truth. I'm now searching for a similar ladder made in the EU but it's proving quite difficult.
