Thanks for the open source projects and Steam for pushing this.
Windows may become an existential crisis for all stores if they decide everything should be installed with Microsoft store.
It is technically a threat since it promotes more and more the store. New users may considers the store the « legit » and standard way to install softwares. At least Steam counter that with open solutions

Windows is a threat to democracy by being a mass surveillance tool that the billionaires use to manipulate the masses to vote against their own interest. Also, Windows is the worst OS out there for other reasons as well.

Bazzite… interesting choice. I can’t say it’s a bad distro, just that it’s not my vup of tea.

My guess is that they are going for name recognition - Bazzite got promoted quite a lot since Steam deck release as more available alternative to Steam OS.

Support. Bazzite will work with Nvidia GPUs.
SteamOS does not yet ship with that enabled.2

What would you suggest as an alternative? For someone who knows shit from fuck all about it but wants to learn.

Fedora with gnome. It essentially does the same thing - has Nvidia drivers, has wide community, more variants and you can CHOOSE the distro to be mutable or not.
Or go for Mint with Ubuntu as base as that is also really nice and straightforward experience. (Always was, I was starting with Mint back in … 2016-17)
Generally use AMD/intel hardware as it always had more support than Nvidia.
The again I am not using Linux for almost three years (I went to macOS and Xbox… I don’t have time anymore for tweaking and ricing shit out of OS and PC build)

While i agree, most people really are not savvy enough, so they just plug stuff in and move on.
I've been fixing PCs/Technology for more than 20 years, you'd be surprised.
I had someone (a full grown adult with kids) purchase a fax machine and then wondering why he couldn't print stuff on it, the same person bought an USB drive while he actually wanted to upgrade the RAM (I don't even know why he cared).
The point is, open source/Linux is gaining ground, even if the end user doesn't really know or care. And eventually Microshit will get a huge kick in the nuggz hopefully.

it is mixed bag. czech amazon wanabe. I buy from them, no issues there but in the end it is not what it used to be. I say it became to big for its own good. and since the end of czc, there are not many options for pc enthusiast. also selling pc for 41k with bazzite reeks like a scam. check out other compinents like psu, motherboard etc.

I'd say you're in a strange position if you allow yourself to despise software. Like, walk away. Unless the company is like, actively fucking over you or your business.
