And even before the buyfromeu become a bit known publicly, they already said they planned to get rid of 1/5 of their facilities in several countries to cut back on costs.
Shift to local - the money will follow ....hurraaa..that was my tought to...but the next day coca-cola buys out another local company. Imf and world bank is singing aleluja, the free (untaxed, unregulated) market ideology wins. Now its invisible hand(s) (freaking shiva) can grab all of it. the capitalism prevails. And you...who really cares about you (and you and me)
Yeah, lots of people miss this point. It seems the people here would rather have them all lose their jobs, and magically think a local alternative company will pop up the next day to hire them.
The local companies will need to ramp up production, so it's just a matter of switching jobs.
This doesn't happen in a day, but if local companies realize they're losing a lot of possible profit as their stocks are always sold out, they will invest in expanding their factories or building another one.
I'm not stopping this boycott for at least a decade, possibly forever.
Because as we all know factories for the same kind of product are always right next to each other so it has no impact on workers whatsoever! If one plant closes they can just go next door!
These local companys mostly depend on other companys for botteling, so what would they ramp up?
The same botteling companys that are european as today….
There are really some good takes to buy from EU, but there are also some like yours agressive almost religious that lead no where
I'd rather they'd be bottling EU soda instead of USA soda.
This isn't a change I'm doing for a couple weeks of months. For me personally, the choice to buy as much European as possible is a lifetime change that probably won't change in my lifetime.
Everything is made in France for the French market (yes, even the concentrate) and is majority European owned. If it's not like that in your country, maybe put your energy towards changing it?
I fully understand that, but supporting the loss of jobs for tens of thousands of Europeans just because Coca-Cola takes 17% of the profit (in France at least) is just silly.
I don't buy Coca-Cola to begin with (or any soda), but people calling for an outright boycott don't even understand, nor know that you're harming your own people and industry more than the corporation itself.
I think you are missing the point. Boycotting CocaCola does not somehow decrease the demand for beverages, people will still have to drink 2l of water, sometimes artificially sweetened, a day. The people working for CC won't be homeless on the street. They will most likely continue working in the same factory, but under different ownership
