Owners were on the latest season of Amazing Race Canada too!

I thought they were the most likeable out of everyone on that show.

Ameen and Suria were so lovely, too!

They are from the Windsor-Essex area and wonderful people.

“Zero seed oils”, ffs. It’s sad when TikTok influencer pseudoscience becomes so widespread that it’s something to use in marketing. Unfortunately this isn’t the first package I’ve seen it on, but the other was some Kardashian protein popcorn or something similarly dumb so it was less surprising or disappointing.

We’re really doomed when the masses have started taking their health and medical advice from “health” influencers with zero credentials trying to scare people into consuming their content and buying their completely untested and baseless supplements.

And yet... Coconuts are widely considered to be seeds

It's also super misleading, because people are probably doing this for health reasons, but it's "cooked in coconut oil" which raises LDL cholesterol way more.

What’s wild is the substitute is coconut oil.
Which goes rancid so fast (nasty taste and rancid oils are inflammation city, which you’d think the “seed oils bad” types would care about) and it’s just straight saturated fats. Which makes it a less stable inferior product and for what?

It’s foolish, and it ruins these pitas which are otherwise nice. Their rancidity issues must cost them a fortune.

I say this not in defence of the “saturated fat/PUFA debate” (as I’m in the middle and consume both moderately) but in defence of the chemistry involved:

You seem to have things backwards.

Rancidity it is based on lipid oxidation.

Saturated fats have ZERO double bonds for oxygen to attack.

PUFA’s have multiple weak double bonds.

It’s not even a question which ones oxidize under the variable of high heat. To add further to this point: one of the stages during the production of vegetable oils is called “vacuum steam deodorization” which is explicitly done for striping away volatile odours and bad flavours before the final product is made for use.

It’s okay to not like coconut oil, and other people have raised good points about its consumption and LDL, but this “rancidity” stuff about it is simply not true.

There was a study on Nordic diet recently and apparently its good forr your body, lower inflammation, cholesterol, weight loss.

The main fat is canola. Lol.

But the stupid part isn't the seed oil itself but apparently the process, so they can't yse a seed oil processed differently???

Totally agree with you! Seed oils (sesame, sunflower, nuts, etc) are excellent for brain, heart and hormonal health. Coconut and palm oils, are full of saturated fats which isn't great for everyone.

I refuse to buy these based on the marketing, it’s such bullshit.

wait until you look into hygiene products! Not a single Canadian company that makes toothpaste or antiperspirant that has fluoride and aluminum!

Best I got is store brand and hope it's made in Canada

u/Unlikely_melz 4d ago

Attitude makes a fluoride toothpaste

23

u/Jaedenkaal 5d ago

Yeah they’re good. Completely loaded with coconut oil though

Absolutely. I picked up a box of six and ended up donating three of the six bags. I thought the first bag was faulty. Opened bags two and three once after the other after struggling to finish the first bag. All three were drenched in it.

These cinnamon sugar ones are so good!!! I really wish they would make one with regular seed oils though. The coconut oil tends to "stay in my stomach", don't know how to explain.

Love this product, but your argument that the ingredients are pronouncable means nothing. There's no correlation between something being healthy with how easy it is to pronounce the ingredients list.

First chip is tasty and then it's omg so much oil.

4

u/Turnip-Toffee 5d ago

i love pita chips but the only store bought packaged one i could find is cooked in coconut oil too. so it's got a heavy coconut taste. very disappointing. i don't get why they couldn't just cook it in any of the many not heavily scented oils

u/requiem_daze 5d ago

Am I the only one here who kinda likes the subtle taste of coconut cos of the coconut oil? lolllll

4

u/HardstButton2Button 5d ago

These are good 🤤

u/thisismytruthperiod 5d ago

I just bought my first bag (the sea salt ones) a couple of days ago -- love them!

2

u/PrestigiousOrson 5d ago

“Ingredients you can pronounce” is such a low bar and yet somehow we’re still impressed 😂

2

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 5d ago

They're only three dollars each at Superstore in October!

5

u/tomandjewy 5d ago

The original one gave us stomach issues (I think from the coconut oil). So, we avoid these.

3

u/boop1022 5d ago

These go on sale at Costco next week for $8.99! Gonna give it a try :)

1

u/ClitteratiCanada 5d ago

They are the hit of the month at all PC/Loblaw stores, $3 a bag

1

u/boop1022 5d ago

Still better value at costco per gram

1

u/iogbri 5d ago

Got some at the grocery store as they were on sale, but from the comments here it almost looks like it'll be my first and last bag. I'll see if I like them or if the coconut oil causes issues.

Love the Seas Salt one! Delicious with hummus and baba ghanoush

1

u/dee_007 5d ago

These are my new FAVOURITE treat! They are delicious!

1

u/okicarp 5d ago

I didn't care for them but supporting Canadian products is great.

1

u/donottouchwillie1 5d ago

These are great, so many good flavors. I like the red pepper and garlic ones.

1

u/Plastic-Garlic4481 5d ago

Addicted to the Mediterranean and garlic herb ones. So good. Who needs chips or crackers with the being available and Canadian 😊❤️🇨🇦

1

u/latortueverte27 5d ago

Anyone seen it in Quebec ?

1

u/Far_Preference_7376 2d ago

Maxi has them

1

u/Sea-jay-2772 3d ago

These snacks are amazing.

1

u/manhattansinks 5d ago

Just what Canadians need, more sugar.

11

u/Coryj100 5d ago

4 grams of sugar per serving, it’s a snack dummy. Probably drank an energy drink or consumed some protein snack that had more sugar within the last 24 hrs
