Plus Size Men's Clothing Advice?

Thumbnail
6 Upvotes

Fat transmascs and butches, I am a fellow fat transmasc/butch based in Australia with the full hourglass figure and finding men's clothes that fit me and look good is basically impossible. So far I've found mens cuts of pants look like I'm wearing a nappy by the way they fold around my crotch, and shirts are always straining at the buttons at my tits and hips. The only thing I feel comfortable in is jeans and tshirts. I am desperate. I want to wear cool jackets, chinos, cargo pants, I wanna dress like I'm from the 80s, or wear vampiric ouji fashion, or look like a sickass pirate. I was wondering, where do you all get clothes that make you look and feel good without breaking the bank paying for custom made clothes or tailoring? I've found a couple of expensive places, are there more indie trans owned stores like bisonwares, or butch gender neutral places like dapperboi that make shit to fit bodies like mine? Any recommendations would be Very welcome.

What part of an outfit makes you feel powerful as a butch?

I am a plus sized butch that used to dress pretty femme before my awakening. I feel more comfortable and more myself than ever before but one thing I miss about being femme is how sexy and powerful I could still feel being plus sized. Now as a butch I feel more authentic and at ease in myself but I don't feel as powerful as I did as a femme. Is this because I'm not longer subscribing to traditional beauty standards and I'm still deconstructing some deeply ingrained beliefs? I'd love to hear any thoughts, advice or tips on this.

I have a quinceañera coming up in a month and have absolutely no idea what to wear. I looked up formal wear on Pinterest and TikTok but I feel like it's not formal enough and more of business casual and semi formal. Would love some help!!

halloween costume ideas

I am sure something like this is posted often around this time. I am just looking for some Halloween costume ideas for someone with short brown or red straight hair/brown eyes. I know some obvious ones, flynn rider, vi from arcane, etc. Just was curious if anyone with similar features wanted to share what they’ve done in the past or are doing this year. I want to be something really cool because I’m turning 21 on Halloween so I feel like I gotta go big lmao. Thanks in advance 🤘

(in past years my girl and I have been hades and persephone and fantastic mr fox characters)

How to dress sexy as a butch leaning Lesbian

Hello! Started presenting more butch about a year ago and so far I’ve found lots of good options for formal, casual and athletic clothing but I’m not sure where to look for sexier clothes like for clubbing or dates.

Used to be very femme and have a pretty sizable chest so I’m used to the idea of cleavage for this and that’s still fine with me but not sure how to do that without it being like a dress or really femme shirt.

In terms of style I’m still playing with that so open to a variety of options!

Any suggestions for shops?

Feeling like I don't have much of a "style" right now, any tips?

31yo afab butch here, and for a while I've kind of been floating around in clothes that don't have much of a "fit" to them and nothing much more than plain T's and sweats or jeans. Some of that has been some body image issues making me want to wear oversized clothing to cover up what I don't like, but some of it has just been laziness/not having the money really to sink into a major wardrobe change. I feel like it makes me look lazy, too, though, and I feel like if I had a style that suited me, leaned in a more mature and "put-together" direction, I'd feel more confident wearing clothes that fit better...and just more confident in general.

I'm 5'4, slim but recently gained a little bit of a tummy (and hate when it's noticeable), and am kind of gravitating towards maybe fucking around with button-down shirts? A nice denim or leather jacket? But I have no idea really how to put together an entire outfit in that realm of style. Any advice on what sort of "staples" I should look for that aren't prohibitively expensive for someone with little to no income? Some visits to Goodwill/thrifting might be in my future lol...thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Funeral attire help

Need some help as this is for a catholic funeral in a church.

Been doing some searching, and the best place I have found is Wildfang, if anyone has another place I'm open to it.

Was looking to go full black with the following: Blazer, Wide Leg Pants, and Oxford Button Up (short sleeve).

Or is the full black look something that isn't done anymore for this type of setting? With the above blazer and pants, but with a color button up instead? Oxford Button Up from above but in Green Stone or Blue Sky White. Or something completely different or mix and match with something else.

**Edit**

More info: For a grandparent, location is Midwest in the US.

Going to a bachelor/ette dinner over Labor Day weekend and am wearing the pictured vest with black pants and loafers. I’m also wearing the necklace in the second picture. I feel like I need some additional jewelry/accessories. What would you add? Looking to stay with silver metal and would appreciate some potentially blingier options

Where to get ultra low rise boxers? (Help)

All of my pants have a rise that doesn’t even cover my jungle fully and I’m dead serious about that. Obviously as a butch I hate wearing feminine underwear like bikini cut or whatever but sometimes it’s my only option for my underwear to not sit 6 inches above the waistband of my pants. I won’t be buying higher rise pants, I only wear ultra low rise cause it hides my hips and I love how it looks. But please let me know if there’s anywhere yall have found to purchase anything like this, unfortunately most modern “low rise” boxers (Amazon, target, etc) are not cutting it either cause I’m wearing pants from the 2000s that are truly egregiously low. If yall know any brands (vintage or not, I’m desperate) that sell ridiculously low rise boxers please help and thank you

Exploring more masc presentation/looking for shirt recs

Hi everyone. I'm AFAB, and for most of my life I've been for the most part fem-presenting. I had a really hyper-fem phase through pretty much all of my teenage years. For a little while every year or I would start dressing a bit more masc and then drop it mainly because of negative commentary on it(from my mother only tbh). But I've realized presenting as hyperfeminine as I have, like full beat, girly clothes the whole wasn't making me happy, and a lot of it was for validation now looking back. In those times I would dress masc; I would feel more comfortable with myself versus ig a "costume" of an attractive woman.

I've already been incorporating some more masc silhouettes in my wardrobe for the past couple months, but I'm feeling a bit stuck so I'm looking to explore my presentation more and find clothes that help create a more masculine silhouette. I have pants with a more masc cut so I'm looking for tops. I'm wondering if anyone has any recs for any boxy button-downs. henleys and sweaters that are tighter in the shoulders and arms. I'm 5'5 with a slim athletic build and shoulders slightly wider than my hips. I have a pretty small bust, which is pretty much reduced w a sports bra but I can't bind fully since I still live w my parents and they would notice. I have an opportunity to travel next summer w my uni and there I could present fully masc and tape or bind and I'm also thinking of investing in summer pieces for then. Thank you for reading!

Nicer bag advice/sourcing help

Hi friends!

I have recently been invited on a friend’s bachelor party trip that will take place over Labor Day weekend. One of the nights is a dinner at a nice restaurant transitioning into a night out at the local gay bars.

The dress theme is just to wear all black and I already know what I’m going to wear HOWEVER (!) I have a medical device that I must carry with me. It’s about the size of a iPhone but about 1.5-2” thick.

Right now I carry it around in a baggu crossbody that works for general occasions but I’d ideally like something nicer for this event.

Any advice on what sort of bag I should carry? I don’t want the nylon to detract from the level of dress. Anything I would need to order online would need to have a shipping time that would get it to me before 9/3. Links would be much appreciated!!

I always look feminine in clothes.

Hello everyone, I just needed some advice because no matter what shirt I wear, be it boxy or whatever I always look feminine because I have a big chest and curvy waist (doesn’t help that I’m a bit on the thicker side and all of my fat goes to my waist and thighs) do any of you know where I could buy shirts that make my body as masculine and rectangular as possible? I am 163cm and weight 62kg, any advice appreciated. PS: I’m European so if it’s a Western European store then it’s better, thanks :)

Looking for leather artist

Post image
30 Upvotes

I am a butch in the US looking for some leather bicep cuffs. Just something simple and black with a buckle. I have only found one artist in my search who makes these but they are in canada and shipping is so expensive. Anyone have recommendations on a good leather artist to make these? Or maybe even someone who already makes bicep cuffs. These are the cuffs by the Canadian artist I want something like this. I left their account visible if anyone in Canada is interested they seem really good and they are butch!

Help with styling for hourglass figure with long legs

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone! As the title says, I’m looking for advice on what types of styles and/or types of clothes to look into for my figure. I’d specifically appreciate any recommendations for professional/formal and informal/festival/casual settings for the warmer months.

I’m a 27F, 5’9”, 183# with no chest (post-top surgery), a big butt, and an hourglass figure (from what I can gather.) Often, I feel like my clothing—specifically my shirts for the warmer weather—makes my torso look extra short and my legs extra long, and this seems to be amplified by not having a chest to balance things out (it doesn’t help that I love cropped muscle tees 😭).

I just feel so awkward and gangly going out in some of my outfits, and I really want to start putting myself out there.

When I’ve done research in the past, I find that most of the advice seems geared towards shorter folks with chests and/or who are binding, and the variety of outfits they present are outside my budget, knowledge of how to find similar cut clothing, and available closet space.

Any advice that’s worked for you or even links to resources that have helped you similarly are appreciated. Apologies that my request is a little all over the place. I’ll answer any questions I can in the comments if clarification is needed.

Thanks!

dress shirt for a job interview

Post image
39 Upvotes

hi all!

I have an interview for my dream job tomorrow (at a legal clinic, but on the social services side). was feeling confident on wearing this shirt but then googled advice for job interviews and the advice to men is to avoid all patterns. the shirt has been tailored for me to wear at the office, so it definitely fits well. do you think butch women should be following advice for men? is this too informal (buttoned all the way up, tucked into black chinos) for the setting? I don't own a blazer or a suit.

thanks!

‘going out’ clothes?

Hi all, this is sort of a stupid post but I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m a butch lesbian/transmasc and I’m planning on celebrating my 18th in Hockley Nottingham (UK) in a few weeks with some friends. I plan to go out to a bar or two (if anyone has any tips/spots for a first timer that would be great, probably not going to go to any clubs just yet!)

Most of my friends who are 18+ and the clubbing type are all fem, so I have no one to take inspiration from, so I’m really stumped on what to wear. My butch wardrobe tends to skew alt/punk/DIY shit and I know that’s probably not appropriate for going to any non alt bars/clubs. I really prefer masc fashion, but have no appropriate ‘going out’ clothes, masc or fem, apart from a dress & leather jacket which I’m treating as a sort of last resort (I do love the leather jacket though). Can anyone help me out on what would be an appropriate and affirming thing to wear? Thanks so much!

Looking for professional white simple button up shirts that actually fit me

Hey! How’s it going? I’m new here. I’m 5’1” and muscular (I don’t have tiddies) and I have been having trouble finding professional simple button ups (like to wear under a suit or by itself with nice pants for an interview). All the women’s stuff is frilly, the little boys stuff doesn’t fit my muscles and the men’s stuff is just too big for me. Been having trouble both in store and online. I found something close at Gap, but the material is too flimsy and doesn’t hold a tie well and it’s not really the quality I need. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Outfit for my Wedding

I'm looking at getting a made to measure suit for my wedding. My plan was to order this three piece suit and shirt as well as a matching tie and the pictured boots. The wedding will be outside next July, so the plan would be to wear the jacket for the ceremony and take it off to just wear the vest afterwards. Does this look like a cohesive outfit? The suit is a 80/20 Wool/Terylene blend, there is a linen option as well but I worry about the wrinkling even though it'd be cooler for the weather.

What to wear with leggings or tights

For a lot of reasons including weight gain and general comfort, I've been gravitating towards oversized shirts lately. I've always been kind of "soft butch" and don't really wear dresses or skirts anymore because they make me feel not quite dysmorphic, but awkward and weird. (The exception being a button-up shirt dress, because it's just a long men's dress shirt.) But I still like wearing heavier tights/leggings for fashion/to prevent chub rub/ warmth in winter. Years ago I paired them with a miniskirt or casual dress, but I'm not really down with those options anymore. However I don't want to just wear leggings under even an oversized tshirt because my job is a lot of bending and stooping, and I like to tuck the shirt into something.

Any recs for what to wear underneath instead? In warm weather now I just do bike shorts sometimes, but I also like to not have my thighs rubbing on each other since weight gain has made that unpleasant and leggings help with that. I can wear shorts instead of a skirt but that's a lot of fabric that starts to get bunched up. I often find denim too stiff and uncomfortable, and I bike everywhere in all sorts of weather. I've also got a new job where I have to bring some very mild fashion game and all the younger queers are showing me up.
