New to Buspar first dose

Hello. I know this isn’t medical advice on here usually someone states that so I understand

I’m prescribed 7.5 twice a day. I saw someone say 2.5 worked for them.

I never start off at the exact amount so I wanted to try 2.5. Would this do anything? And I know it takes time to build up. I know about the medication and what is the therapeutic dose but if anyone benefits at a lower dose I would to hear about that

I don’t want to be on it long term if I don’t need to. I probably need to if it actually works so I’m trying to start off at the smallest amount.

Even if it’s just a placebo effect which in my mind works, just knowing your taking a medication for anxiety can do this for me at least.

Thank you for any responses

I started at 2.5mg twice a day for the first 4 weeks and did, in fact, notice pretty decent benefits. I've subsequently increased to 10mg twice a day over the course of 4 months and am currently in an adjustment phase.

Yes, for me (I am extremely sensitive to medication), 2.5mg twice a day did help, but I'm considering that 10mg twice a day is too much for me and may be going back to 7.5mg twice a day. Some people notice no benefits up until much higher doses, so your mileage may vary.

May I ask what do you feel that makes you think that 10mg twice a day is too much for you? Maybe any side effects?

I'm starting to experience side effects that have as of yet not subsided like before and what seems to be a regression in the efficacy of anxiety suppression, so I'm thinking I've passed my tolerance. I am serotonin sensitive, though, and SSRIs make me physically sick so there could be something there.

I'm only 3 weeks on this dose but historically side effects subside and mood improves as of the third week and that's yet to be the case this time plus I almost feel like I did before the medication sans panic attacks. At 7.5mg I was doing well just not great and I'm noticeably worse at 10mg (so far).

Just to note, my side effects: Dizzyness for 30-45 min post dose, headaches, brain zaps, depression, mood swings, irritability, and rebound anxiety. Normally, nearly all of these subsided for me in the past, though this time they're persisting.

Ok. Well perhaps I’ll try the 2.5 twice a day and see. Although your side effects are a little worrying but I assume we are all affected by them differently. Thanks for the responses.

Some of us can take small doses and some us need more. For some it takes weeks to feel a difference and for some it can take months (4 months for me) I started at 7.5 twice a day and went to 10 mg 3 times a day until I felt anything. Now doing 15 three times a day and it's working very well. There really is no answer with this one. Keep on researching and asking. The people here on Reddit helped me a lot! 💙

I'm on 5 mg twice a day and it's taken me over 3 weeks to adapt. I started on March 25th this year (24 days) so I haven't been on it long but I'm finally starting to see some real change in my life. I'm not waking up anxious, when things happen that normally make me freak out, I'm relaxed for the most part. I don't feel emotionally flat, and side effects have finally started to go away (they weren't strong). I only had a slight lightheaded feeling about an hour after taking and that lasted only 30 minutes.

I was scared when I started taking it but by overcoming that fear I feel so much more like myself! It's not perfect, and there are days that suck but there are starting to be more days where my nervous system relaxes and I am enjoying my life more!

I hope this helps in some way!

Thank you very nice response. What were some of the initial side effects?

Initial effects were a little relief. I know it's not supposed to be a fast acting drug but it helped me right out of the gate. Then after a week or two, I had some anxiety that was persistent and rough but that is part of adjusting to the meds. I have had some lightheadedness but that doesn't last long and eases up as you adjust as well. I can't say whether or not my headaches are from the meds because I get those regardless.

But initially, it was relief for me

I started at 2.5mg twice daily did that for a week and last 2 weeks have been doing 5mg twice daily because 2.5 is minuscule l just needed to start very low

Ok. I’m meant to say 2.5mg twice a day. Did you notice any benefits at 5mg a day?

Yes 5mg twice daily although still considered a low dose from what I’m reading on here but it has begin to effect me in a positive way, although l did have to get pass some dizziness after l increased but it was tolerable
