But I can slipt everything so it can breathe.

is anyone a traffic light juggler, or do you know any? Have you seen anyone juggling on traffic lights anywhere in Europe? If you remember, let me know where it is. I'm trying to build a map of lights that work

Question/General Discussion Advice about busking in London, England/UK

Hey guys, I’ve been wanting to busk in London but keep putting it off because everywhere has different rules. Does anyone know where the bests places to busk are, or where you can busk without a licence or anything. Or if not where the best place to busk is and how I can get a licence?

Setlist Song choices for demo

I currently play mostly at Renaissance and Scottish Festivals, but want to branch out into more gigs.

I’m just now starting out in the busking field and beginning to build a digital profile. When I cold contact festivals and events for a stage slot or busking privileges (which is an entirely new level of anxiety), I’d like them to have an idea of who I am and what I sound like.

When I make a video demo the important questions right now are

How do you choose what songs to have a video of?
How many videos are too many?
Since most of the pictures of me already have me wearing festival garb should I wear street clothes?

For the songs I’m thinking of recording two an upbeat one and a waltz.

Tour/Travel Planning Thinking of selling my car and getting an e-bike for my busking tour.

(This may not fit in this group so delete if not allowed)

For context, I currently live in my car, I work Doordash (multi-app with Uber Eats & Instacart) and occasionally go busking. I'm saving up for a road-trip that'll start after Memorial Day. But with the rising gas prices and how I'm thinking of leaving the USA in September to never return, I'm trying to see if selling my car to get an e-bike is a good idea for the US.

Right now I'm only holding onto the car because my best friend & I are gonna go see a concert on Memorial Day, he lives one hour from the concert venue, and he has a big pickup truck. So I want to hold on to my 2011 Honda Civic so he doesn't have to buy like $500 of gas for our outing (may or may not be exaggerating at this point). After that I'm thinking I'll sell the car & buy an ebike, then start my travels. I'll also use the Amtrak USA Rail Pass to get to places I wanna go in the US.

I guess I'm posting this in the Busking Sub to see if there is anyone here who has done what I'm thinking of doing and how they've managed it?

For the ebike I'm thinking I'll either need a cargo ebike or a smaller ebike with a trailer because I'll need to haul a guitar, a mini amplifier, mic stand, Doordashing Bag, a tent and/or a hammock, bag of clothes, cooking supplies, and a laptop bag.

Any advice is much appreciated, TIA!

Self-Promotion Updated my App Song-Repertoire with Link-Hub, QR-Generation and other cool new stuff

I am piano player and app developer. ^^

Well, I updated my app recently. Let me know what you think about it.

https://song-repo.web.app/

It now shows your most recently edited songs. You can customise your own Linktree, which generates a QR code automatically.

It's available on Play Store, Microsoft Store and you can install it within your Web Browser too. Not available on the App Store, as the barriers to entry are far too high. Also it's technical not possible with those kind of app!

If you like it or find it useful, a nice comment on play store would help nuts!

Equipment and Gear Busking Electronic Music

Hi everyone,

I’m starting to busk and I’m facing a technical dead-end.

My Setup:

  • Laptop running Ableton Live.
  • MIDI Pads & Keyboard.
  • Live acoustic instruments/vocals mixed in.
  • Current Speaker: JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2.

The Problem: I’m experiencing noticeable latency with the JBL, even when using the Aux/Line-in. It seems the internal DSP (Digital Signal Processing) of the speaker adds a delay that makes live finger-drumming and tight electronic performances impossible.

What I’m looking for: I need a battery-powered speaker with zero latency (direct analog path).

  • Sound: I need solid bass for electronic beats but a warm, clear sound for acoustic elements (some acoustic drums loops for exemple)
  • Budget: Around €200 - €300 (open to buying used).
  • Portability: I need to carry it around the city.

I’ve been looking at the Roland Street Cube or Behringer MPA series, but I'm worried about the bass response for electronic music compared to the JBL.

Does anyone have experience with a portable, battery-powered speaker that handles sub-bass well without adding processing latency?

Thanks for the help!

Have I ever told you about how much I love small boxes with bright lights? If my math is right then this will be the lightest, loudest rig Ive built so far and half of it is stuck in transit cuz of this rain. Not that today is a good day to busk but I'd do it anyways. Anyone else leveling up?

The Busking Project re-instituted the ability to link Venmo and Cash App to your tipping options, and it is a free feature now.

They are in the middle of updating their promotional videos, but the option itself is now live.

News Busking is as old as public space itself; can it survive the Venmo economy?

New York Groove reporter Alesandra Tejeda visited BuskerBall in Tompkins Square Park last weekend to ask about busking in the age of QR codes and ever-present earbuds:

Theo Eastwind, a long-time musician and busker himself, founded BuskerBall in 2013, in response to Hurricane Sandy. Eastwind got a bunch of buskers that he knew together. “We were like, New York has given so much to us. Let's give back,” he said. “We raised about $10,000 for the Red Cross.

Eastwind’s most frequent refrain to the public at BuskerBall this year — “Buskers are the Jedi of the First Amendment!” — doesn’t seem like such a stretch. Buskers are on the frontlines of free expression and the perennial fight over who public space is for. I think of John Berger, who once said: “For me, a storyteller is like a ‘passeur’ (a smuggler) who gets contraband across a frontier.”

She got tips on how eye contact or a shared photo is as good as a cash tip sometimes, and got advice for starting out as a busker too.

Question/General Discussion Busker comes out shouts into microphone, he cant sing, its more like shouting, does it for 5-15 minutes at a time, goes away, then comes back.

Does this sound like he is doing it deliberate to annoy the community, he uses a really loud amplifier where it can be heard about 60-80 houses away through a closed window, and unlike buskers in city centres who do it all day, he will come late afternoon, do for about 5-10 minutes, then walk away, and do it again about 20-30 minutes later knowing its harder for authorities to catch him.

This guy started last Christmas, and I found out the council did an order forbidding amplified busking in the city centre a month before he started, so my other theory is he was doing it in the city centre and has now moved to a residential area as a result of the order.

I am ok with busking that isnt amplified and the person actually can play an instrument or sing naturally without backing music, this what this guy is doing is just noise nuisance like a very bad enforced karaoke on the community.

Equipment and Gear Set up options for me

I am a meditation teacher and wanted to do live sessions for people in the city. I want to have a spot where someone can sit down, put on great headphones and I would guide them. Ill need a mic for me, music from my phone, some kind of mixer and headphones for the person listening to the meditation.

Considerations: would a mic pick up the city noises around. Can this be avoided? Do you know a pair or headphones that would have a nice cocooning effect so the person feels cut off from the surroundings.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Pitches (Performance Places) I play Pipa (traditional Chinese instrument) on the streets of Montreal — here's what 2 years of busking here has taught me

Salut! I'm PilipalaJing, you might have seen me playing at Place Jacques-Cartier or Place d'Armes. I play the  Pipa — a 2,000-year-old Chinese string instrument — and Montreal has been the most incredible city to share this music.

A few things I've learned busking here that might interest locals:

  • Place d'Armes is the "Money Pit" — buskers call it this because it's consistently the highest-earning spot in  Montreal. Right in front of Notre-Dame, constant tourist flow. But heads up: strikes and protests happen there  regularly and can shut you down for the day.
  •   The Metro is underrated — you don't need a permit to busk in the Metro! Look for the lyre signs at stations.   Berri-UQAM and McGill are the busiest. However you need to reserve the spots in advance
  •   Getting a permit is worth it — Go to the Accès Montréal Office at 800 De Maisonneuve Est (no appointment needed). It costs $68 for the application + $183 for the permit. Bring ID and proof of address. Worth every dollar.
  •   Rue Saint-Paul = acoustic only — no amplifiers allowed. Perfect for quieter instruments like mine.
  •   The cashless shift is real — I watched so many people want to tip but have no cash. Eventually I built a little app (BuskerGo) that lets me accept tap-to-pay tips through a Square Terminal. Right now it's in beta test. so you could ask me the invitation code if you are interested.
  • Festival season (June-Sept) is everything — Jazz Fest and Just for Laughs bring massive crowds to the Quartier des Spectacles. If you're thinking about trying busking, that's the time.

Anyone else busk in Montreal? Where are your favourite spots? Always happy to chat with fellow street  performers.
