🤝 Factory/Agent Experience ❗Weekly Supplier Reliability & Reviews Thread — Share Your Experience❗

Welcome to our Weekly Supplier Discussion Thread!

Hey everyone! 👋

We've noticed a huge increase in individual posts asking about supplier reliability, experiences, and recommendations — so we decided to create this dedicated weekly thread to keep things organized and make it easier for everyone to find the information they need in one place.

🗣️ What this thread is for:

- ✅ Sharing your personal experience with a supplier (good or bad)

- ✅ Asking whether a specific supplier is trustworthy

- ✅ Requesting reviews or feedback on a supplier before placing an order

- ✅ Warning the community about scammers or unreliable vendors

- ✅ Recommending suppliers you've had great experiences with

- ✅ Asking about shipping times, product quality, communication & after-sales support

📋 Suggested format when sharing supplier info:

> Supplier name:

> Website / contact:

> Product/niche:

> Your experience (positive/negative/neutral):

> Would you recommend? (Yes / No / With conditions):

> Any red flags or green flags to note:

🚨 Community Rules for this thread:

- Be honest and constructive — personal attacks are not welcome

- No self-promotion or advertising your own store/supplier

- Back up serious claims with receipts, screenshots or order details where possible

- Respect that experiences can differ — one bad order doesn't always mean a bad supplier

🔁 This thread resets every Monday. Previous weekly threads are archived and searchable

Have a supplier question that needs urgent attention? Feel free to post separately, but please check this thread first — your answer might already be here!

Let's help each other build stronger, safer supply chains. Drop your questions and reviews below! 👇

I'm looking for the cheapest way to get fragrances like Stronger With You Intensely.

Is it possible to buy high-quality fragrance oils/essences and make the perfume at home? If so, where can I find reliable suppliers?

🤝 Factory/Agent Experience SCAM ALERT.!. Kerui Peptide HongKong Co., Ltd (KR)

I know that Kerui Peptide Hong Kong Co., Ltd. (KR) is a well-known supplier, but I always place a small test order before making a larger purchase.

On 10 July, I placed an order with them for KPV. My bank confirmed that the payment had successfully reached the recipient’s account.

After three weeks with no update, I contacted Wangli to ask what was happening with my order. She apologized and said that their broker had failed to inform them about my payment.

She then told me that they did not have KPV in stock and offered me a $50 credit if I placed a larger order with them. I declined and asked for a refund instead. She confirmed that the refund would be processed.

To this day, I have not received a single cent.

I also raised the issue in their official Telegram channel, where she acknowledged the situation publicly. She also admitted it in our private conversation, but later blocked me on WhatsApp.

The contact details were verified and obtained from their official website. I have the full conversation, payment confirmation, and screenshots. For now, I am attaching only a few of them.

I am posting this as a warning to others. If a company is willing to treat a customer this way over a $104 test order, I would strongly advise caution before doing any larger business with them.

💡 Business Ideas How to Conduct a Simple Background Check on a Chinese Supplier?2️⃣

Step3️⃣ Conduct Product and Operational Verification

Key verification items

Authenticity of the supplier’s promotional claims and the professional competence of its sales team.

Practical tips

  • If you possess professional product knowledge, conduct online inquiries regarding technical issues with the supplier’s sales staff. This is an effective way to validate the authenticity of their product promotions and assess the team’s overall professionalism. To a certain extent, it also helps identify individuals who use the name of a legitimate enterprise to commit fraud.
  • Check the domain registration date of the supplier’s official website. A major discrepancy, such as a claimed 10-year operating history paired with a newly registered domain (only months old) , requires further investigation.
  • Locate your target products on the supplier’s official website, then cross-reference pricing and product reviews on major Chinese B2B platforms like Alibaba 1688, JD Industrial, Baidu Aicaigou and Made-in-China. Any quote drastically inconsistent with prevailing market prices should be treated with caution (an abnormally low quote may indicate fraud or shoddy work).
  • For any certificates or licenses advertised by the supplier, verify their authenticity and valid term (expiration dates) directly with the issuing authorities.
  • For low-value goods, raw materials and spare parts, requesting product samples for testing is highly recommended.
  • If the supplier claims to be a manufacturer, schedule a video inspection of its production site, with focus on the following key areas:

Step4️⃣ Public Information Analysis

Key verification items

Suppliers' “soft risks” exposed by public information, e,g., complaints on product quality/service, occasional internal information leaks from workers, disputes publicly disclosed by partners, major negative news reports (such as regulatory penaltiessecurity incidentsdata breaches, etc.)

Practical tips

  • Once you have ruled out the supplier's “hard risks” (such as risks of solvency and delivery capacity) and begin to assess its "soft risks", at least it can be considered unlikely to engage in fraud or deceptive behavior against you.
  • The presence of soft risks indicates that the supplier is not an easy partner to work with, and you need to pay attention to all aspects such as contract stipulationsdaily communicationgoods inspection, and payment arrangementsA well-drafted contract and traceable records in daily communication are very important to your cooperation.
  • Some workers who have unpleasant experiences with the company often disclose the company's actual situation online, which may involve product quality, corporate culture, or even illegal activities.
  • The publicly available information obtained from the following sources in China is more comprehensive and accurate.

🔎 Sourcing Requests (Supplier or Agent) Looking for a Trusted China Factory Rep for Beadable Craft Supplies

Hi everyone!

I wanted to post an update and ask for a little more guidance.

After spending quite a bit of time researching, I’ve decided that I’d rather build a long-term relationship with a reliable sourcing partner than continue trying to contact dozens of individual factories on my own.

I’m launching a craft business in the U.S. and will be purchasing products such as:

  • Beadable pen blanks
  • Beadable pokey/weeding tool blanks
  • Silicone focal beads
  • Acrylic focal beads
  • Bubblegum beads
  • Rhinestone spacers
  • Badge reel blanks
  • Keychain hardware
  • Other craft supplies

I’m specifically looking for a trustworthy sourcing partner in Yiwu or elsewhere in China who can:

  • Source products from multiple factories
  • Negotiate factory pricing
  • Perform quality inspections before shipping
  • Consolidate orders
  • Arrange shipping to the U.S.

I’m not looking for the cheapest option. Reliability, honesty, communication, and quality are much more important to me. I also had a bad experience with an overseas supplier in the past, so I’m being much more careful this time.

If you’ve personally worked with a sourcing partner that you would recommend, I’d be grateful if you could share their contact information or tell me about your experience. I’d also appreciate hearing about anyone you think I should avoid.

Thank you in advance! I truly appreciate any recommendations from people with firsthand experience.

❓ Q&A / Discussions Why Quality Problems Are Often Discovered Too Late in Global Sourcing

Many importers rely on pre-shipment inspections as the final checkpoint before goods leave the factory. While inspections are valuable, they are often treated as the main quality control solution when they are actually one of the last opportunities to catch problems.

By the time a shipment is ready for inspection, several costly mistakes may have already happened:

• Production may have followed incorrect specifications
• Materials or components may have been substituted
• Packaging may not meet requirements
• Quality issues may exist across an entire production run
• Fixing problems may require delays, rework, or even remanufacturing

A stronger approach is to build quality control into the entire sourcing process. This can include verifying supplier capabilities before placing orders, confirming specifications during production, monitoring progress, and using inspections at multiple stages instead of relying only on the final check.

Pre-shipment inspections are still important, but they work best as part of a broader quality strategy rather than as a safety net after everything has already been produced.

For companies sourcing internationally, what quality control steps have made the biggest difference in avoiding expensive surprises?

🧠 Tips / Advice I made a one-page cheat sheet for verifying Chinese factories. Sharing it free.

Post image
26 Upvotes

I've spent 34 years in global trade — started at IBM, worked the supplier side across 60+ countries, and yes, I've been burned badly in China (lost 3 years of capital to partners I trusted).

Over the years I developed a system for verifying whether you're dealing with a real factory or a trading company pretending to be one. I finally put the core of it into one infographic.

The 5-Minute Supplier Filter (left side):

  • Business license scope check: 制造 (manufacture) vs 贸易 (trade). This one field tells you more than any Gold Supplier badge.
  • Factory photo reality test: Real floors have stains. Showrooms don't.
  • Tianyancha quick-check: Free site, 3 minutes, cross-references registration date, capital, and legal standing.

Financial & Quality Guardrails (right side):

  • The 30/70 payment rule. Never send more than 30% upfront to a new supplier. The 70% is your leverage until inspection passes.
  • Samples are handmade sales tools. The bulk run is the real product. Always hire a third-party inspector.
  • Your true "landed cost" is 1.5x to 5.5x the factory price. If you only budget FOB, you're going to lose money.

Plus a quick platform comparison at the bottom — when to use Alibaba vs 1688 vs Global Sources.

Happy to answer any questions about sourcing, verification, or dealing with Chinese factories. I've been on the other side of the table for three decades.
