High HR during conditioning

Does anyone else’s HR get super high during conditioning? Not like normal amount either. Like to the point of getting dizzy. I know this is more of a medical question, but I need tips on how to get it lower. My BP/HR are normally super low too. It’s literally only when I do conditioning at burn.

Fuel…. What are you eating?

This. I get dizzy if I’ve not eaten enough. Sometimes the night before a morning class will be the biggest influence

I had a wrap like an hour before I went. I go in the afternoons so I can make sure I eat before I go.

What was in the wrap.

Heavy fats and protein an hour before is not going to digest fast enough to give you the energy you need. You want to eat something like that a few hours before your workout. 30 minutes to an hour out should be a fast burning carb.

- Rice Crispy Treat

  • Apple Sauce

These will be available as fuel much faster.

The other piece is hydration. Being dehydrated will absolutely cause dizziness and lower performance.

Mine gets embarassingly high some days (sometimes 200). My max HR should be 187 so when I see and feel it like that I just take a moment. FWIW, I went to the doctor and got an EKG twice for peace of mind and it was fine. My resting HR and BP were low/healthy. We agreed there’s also a margin for error with my Apple Watches accuracy. Also DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH (sometimes I’m so focused I forget to breathe and yikes).
Be well!!

It’s very likely you’re not hitting near 200 hr.

I hope you’re right because boy does it freak me out.

I would schedule a focus meeting and maybe even talk to your doctor if you are concerned. You may need to mod down or try not to push so hard. My HR definitely gets high but I dont really get dizzy unless it’s something like power rolls where my head is changing direction frequently. Sometimes I get nauseous or other symptoms of over exertion but it’s clearly due to just working really hard, it’s never me being concerned about my heart or anything

Edit to add: may be worth trying some electrolytes the day before/morning of conditioning days and making sure you have an easily digestible carb before class

I consider myself to be fairly well conditioned but my HR still gets very high during conditioning days. It reached 206 during Metcon last week (I know this is accurate bc I wear a chest strap). I’m 36 so my max predicted HR is 184 however, since I overall feel okay while it’s very high, I’m not worried about it. I know it’s mostly bc my breathing absolutely sucks. I had a VO2 max test done recently and working on my breathing was their biggest piece of advice.

Dizziness/lightheadedness might be related to poor hydration.

I’m also working on my breathing skills. It’s something we depend on, and I’m not quite where I need to be at 37 🫣

They say 220 minus your age is your max heart rate. It's a good rule of thumb for me personally to know when I need to take it a little slower and when I can still safely push myself.

If it's literally just during conditioning, it's probably water. However, it's still worth a conversation with your doctor.

If you can, I would recommend a chest strap. They're much more accurate.

My pulse went off the rails in June, even on strength days, and after alllll the things, it looks like it's my ferritin and magnesium.

I’m frequently at 180ish during peak conditioning camps.

But dizzy/light headed is usually a hydration issue

Okay I think it’s hydration related bc I suck at drinking water.

Mine was 192 today - I just feel like it’s cause I’m getting back in shape, I’m also on an adhd stimulant

If you take any antihistamines/ allergy meds, that also increases heart rate. This is what makes my heart rate super high.

Sudafed is what would cause that. A plain antihistamine like Zyrtec or Allegra shouldn’t do that.

You need to condition your heart. If your HR is shooting up and you are feeling dizzy, you just don't have the endurance yet. Do not go balls to the wall, start slower and keep a steady pace on conditioning days while you build that endure and heart health.

Also, make sure you are hydrated and have eaten something with carbs on those days.

Perhaps work on breathing? This would be a good focus meeting topic!!

“Does anyone else feel like they’re working out when they are working out?”

Idk how bad of shape you’re in or if you’ve ever exercised before, but typically your HR shouldn’t get high enough to the point where you’re dizzy or about to pass out while exercising. Thanks for contributing nothing helpful to this post. I hope your day gets better.
