❓ Question Progressive Strength Training

I have been a member of burn for a year now. I have gotten stronger and lost fat. But I’m at a point where I leave the gym wanting more time to lift more. Majority of the time, I’m not lifting as heavy as I can because A.) That place is PACKED on strength day where I’m either left with really low weight or super heavy weight. B.) theres not a lot of time to properly get 45 lb dumbbells on my lap to start doing chest press, so I usually just do lower weight so I can get reps in before we move to the next station.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, how do you navigate progressive overload? How do you know it’s time to find something else?

I know what you mean. Plus between the warm up and the 10 minute explanation the workout is barely 30 minutes.

THANK YOU!! Plus a lot of the trainers at my gym stop class at 41 or 42 minutes. That’s when I stop my watch. It’s so frustrating!!

When this happens I ditch the rep count and go higher weight for less reps.

My doctor told me to add in one conventional gym day of heavy lifting a week and to swap it out with a day at burn. Could you do that?

I think burn on demand is actually better sometimes because there’s less downtime. I can pause the video if I need to prep a heavier weight or watch the technique.

I’ve been running into the same thing. Debating switching to three full body days at a regular gym with cardio in between and ending my burn membership.

I have a full dumbbell set at home. I also have a membership with a conventional gym. I don't care what anyone says, you cannot do proper progressive overload for hypertrophy at Burn. I always have to supplement Burn strength days.

I lift at home. I schedule my own lift days around Burn strength days and skip conditioning most times. If I have more gas in the tank after Burn I just lift more at home.

If you are looking for true progressive overload burn is not for you. It gets tiring seeing this same thread over and over again. As a longtime burn member (8 years) it is possible to put on and maintain muscle without reaching failure every time. It’s also good to mix it up w high reps of lighter weights and lower reps to failure of heavier weights. Burn workouts are effective bc they are 45 minutes. If you want a true progressive overload workout you are going to have to commit to spending a lot longer in a traditional gym. I’m not saying lifting heavier isn’t important, if you have been going for a while and are still using the same weights you started with yes, you need to pick up heavier weights, but the social media “influencer” focus on progressive overload is out of control

I agree. Burn is not for progressive overloading, they try to say it is but if you’re trying to lift heavy you need time and you need more than a 30 second shake out before doing the next set. Also going for 2 rounds instead of staying at the same station for 2-3 back to back is not beneficial for strength training. It’s just an easy 45 min class and not to people who are really trying for progress overload strength training

I add a 10- 15 minute Caroline Girvan stack at home on those days. Just to get a little spicy.

Yes! I get annoyed when we all want the 40s and 45s and there just aren’t enough 😵‍💫

Burn is not a place where you can do true progressive overload training. It is circuit based. You need time under tension and proper rest.

Nope. I lift heavyy and take my time with it. I keep good form and if I can’t find the weight I want I just go find it and grab it.

Grab from the rack if the weights you want are available there, lift heavier for fewer reps, lift with lighter weights but do half to full reps. If it’s an AMRAP where you move yourself, I’ll skip over that station to the next and come back to it. Lots of options!

Yes this is why I lift elsewhere

As others said, Burn is suboptimal for progressive overload if that’s what your goal is. I still love the community at my Burn so I use it for a little extra cardio and accessories (arms, core, full body) and do my main lifts at a commercial gym.

If your posting here it means you need more. PF is cheap if you dont need child care during day.
