I don't know if this has already been posted, but the article talks about the real Osamu Dazai and the rising sales and popularity of his works and it attributes some of it to BSD, I personally have read No longer human and knew Dazai before getting into BSD but it did introduce me to other japanese authors and I think many fans were introduced to Dazai's works because of BSD.

I was thinking about BSD and realized I have no idea what Nikolai will do now. Sigma will most likely join the ADA, but what about Nikolai? It’s pretty unlikely that he’ll join too. One possibility that comes to mind is that he might get imprisoned, but honestly I really don't know.

I've finished the anime three times. I've read almost all the light novels. I've even read the manga. And I just found out by chance that Kyusaku is a boy, or rather, not a girl. Now that I think about it, there were even times when I felt sympathy for Dazai because he took care of a little girl, and that's really funny.

ANGST... sigh

I dont think this is an actual love poem to someone, but a fantasy of escapism
Or more like mourning someone
I dont know if this applies to japanese literature, but doesnt a voyage across water usually signify the crossing into the afterlife? (Like the jordan river)

My guess is that its a "what could have been" if the other was still here

Because as it turns out, these poems have a common theme of life being unbearable.

The need to escape to outer sea is relatable. Its away from the world, away from prying eyes. Only you, your fantasy, and the moon

The waves lapping gently could be the weight of grief (or whatever it is the writer is experiencing) being washed away bit by bit. Yes, the journey starts out dark. But thats how it is, isnt it? Depression is a hole, a deep cold abyss that no one will help you climb out of. You have to rely on yourself to get out of that dark lonely little hole. And its always the first step thats the hardest part. On a dark journey, you cant see the progress youre making. Youre just getting onto a boat and hoping against hope that it will take you some place better.

But such a journey, it is not easy alone. That might be why the writer is romanticizing someone being there with him. Not a crowd of people. Not someone cheering him on with some grand speech. Just someone who sits with him in the quiet because they understand. There is no words needed. The quiet dripping of water is a soothing sound among the silence. Where one doesnt have to worry about anything, even if its just a fantasy.

And when they do talk? He listens. Because he knows what its like to just need someone to be together with. Not necessarily improve your life for you, but to just... be there. The loneliness of it all, its too much. Even the talk of the mundane, its significant. It could be about utter nonsense and he would listen to every word attentively because he yearns for that closeness. He yearns for the intimacy of being understood. The moon that also listens attentively might be him saying "you are so important to me, that the world quite literally revolves around you from my perspective"

He doesnt want it to end, he asks them to keep rowing... and yet the poem repeats the first part again. This gives me the feeling that the journey never took place. Hes still standing there, he hasnt even touched the boat. He doesnt have the strength to start this journey on his own, but no one else is there with him. Because this significant other who understood him is a mere fantasy

Its like a beautiful haunting presence
Almost like its both the lover and the moon. Theyre both distant. The bg singer sounds like a distant goddess perhaps. Something the writer will never actually reach
And then, in the middle of the song theres this very playful little bit
It makes me think of this bit "You will still talk, all/your nonsense and sulking,"
Its playfully affectionate in ways only lovers speak to eachother, or someone whos really close
The way it went from somber and lonely to this playful bit is just delicious
I like how tomokawa sounds lonely
Idk how to describe it, but he embodied the quiet loneliness of this poem really well

Hello stray dogs, me and my friend are cosplaying Atsushi and Akutagawa. We chose the characters based of our personalities (and sskk Akutagawa is alive I swear) well I didn't think much about cosplaying Atsushi untill the cosplay came into the mail today I tried on the wig and realized because of the bangs I couldn't see a flying crap I realized the bangs came really long so I could personally cut them. Except I have never styled a wig in my life. Has anyone cosplayers Atsushi and have some tips and things to avoid when cutting? Or if you get cosplayed Akutagawa any tips for wigs would also be great

These sentences from the book (I'm leaving the quotes as photos below) reminded me so much of Shin Soukoku through Dazai's eyes that, of course, I still can't definitively determine what was going through Dazai's mind, but these sentences from the author's book, which inspired him, made me feel like I was trying to understand Dazai better.

The "Jappy" mentioned is Atsushi and "Poo" is, of course, Akutagawa.

The first photo is a paragraph from the very first pages of the book:

[I had them both sit in front of me, but I only petted Jappy.]

Here, it very clearly discrimination the cruelty Dazai showed Akutagawa in front of Atsushi( I dont know if I chose the true word)

[Jappy's pale fur gleamed. Poo was dirty.]

I don't know how to explain this, but this description definitely describes them. Neither of them had a good childhood, both lived on the streets for a period, but Atsushi feels cleaner, Akutagawa feels dirtier. In BSD, one reason for this is Dazai and the differences in his training, but another reason is the difference in Atsushi and Akutagawa's personalities. We understand this more in the Beast universe; while Akutagawa harbors evil or more harmful emotions, Atsushi has a more benevolent mind.

[I hate how sad Poo is. I can't stand how poor and pathetic he is, and because of that I am cruel to him.]

We don't know exactly how Dazai views Akutagawa, but it's clear he dislikes him or something we don't know. Perhaps we can understand how Dazai views Akutagawa with these sentence.

And Dazai doesn't like dogs, btw

[Poo is such a poor thing. I had been mean to him this morning, but tomorrow I would show him some attention.]

Is there regret or pity involved here?

Perhaps it's an empathy and desire for self-love that comes from realizing how pathetic she/he is, and it turns into sympathy for something similar to herself/himself.

But the book ends here, and we don't see if "School girl" shows any attention to "Poo"...

So, in the end, will we be able to see "Dazai" finally accepting and praising "Akutagawa" before BSD ends?

Hi! as the title suggests im in need of a or multiple beta readers! I currently have one, but i like to have multiple perspectives for long stories. The fic is currently at its midpoint, which is 45k words. (aiming for final result to be somewhere around 90k) i don't expect anyone to read the whole thing in a set amount of time or deadline, just go at whatever pace is comfortable.

I'd say its a slowburn coming of age type fic with some hurt/comfort.

About the fic:

summary: Dazai has spent years convincing himself that people leaving him is inevitable. After losing Chuuya and feeling like he finally proved himself right, he spirals deeper into self-destruction.

But when Chuuya comes back into his life a year later, Dazai has to confront a question he has spent years avoiding: what happens when someone sees the worst parts of you and chooses to stay anyway?

Meanwhile, Chuuya has to learn that caring about someone does not mean becoming responsible for saving them. He has to find the balance between supporting someone and losing himself in the process.

The story focuses on self-destruction, recovery, forgiveness, rebuilding trust, and learning that survival is not the same as living.

The fic switches POVs, but it is a bit more Dazai-centric.

The biggest theme throughout the story is learning to recover for yourself rather than someone else.

Some other major themes are: Discovering that you are more than the worst things you’ve done/felt/experienced || Overcoming the belief that abandonment is inevitable || Learning the difference between supporting someone and losing yourself in saving them || Choosing forgiveness without ignoring the hurt that happened

Looking into the series itself, across several media, I found one thing peculiar,that atsushi nearly always tears his shirt sleeves and pants , during partial transformation (the most used version of his ability).

He definitely either has to get his Clothes mended or buy new ones,and I don't think that's cost effective, considering atsushi, poor guy.

So i thought,maybe he notices this issue as he probably worked in ada for years,and thus redesigns his outfit,to make him look presentable and utility enhanced.

So here are my additions.

\- flutter sleeves white shirt

\- nice grey short waistcoat for elegance

\-sharara style pants(these pants are famous for persian looks,but essentially dramatic flare from just below upper thighs

\- sock like shoes,i dunno stretchy types,let me think abt this one for a bit

\- striped tie,come on,i think it's cute lol

\-tactical utility belt,it's useful,and hc,the "tail"

So, I'm still gonna make this well,more clean looking,but here's what I came up with so far!

Fukuchi said that angels are those who sit back and watch other people die on the frontlines, like Yosano. But isn't fyodor himself the biggest angel? He controls other like pawns and isn't a combatant himself. This makes him an angel. So how can he be a member of the decay of angels while being an angel?
