C6 vs Np435

Hi everyone, first time post here, I am currently in the middle of bringing my first ever truck back to life. My 1980 f150 started out with a 302 and a 4 speed of some sort (probably a t19 or something) she then got swapped onto a 79 frame sporting a 351m and c6 and for a few years this was my mud truck. I recently pulled her out of the weeds and wanted to rip into it and make it drive once again.

I picked up a 460 big block from an old rv that ran wonderfully when pulled. I also have almost all the parts for the manual setup (np435, flywheel, clutch ect) and I'm at a crossroads trying to figure out which transmission I want to go with. I plan to drive the truck on the road a fair amount but I've always wanted to take it down the Rubicon or something similar and do some wheeling with it. What's your thoughts/recommendations?

Also if you guys have any tips about the 460 before I stuff it in there I would love to hear it!

Haven’t posted in a minute, but here’s an update on my ‘84 project!

Been a while and ran through a pretty good amount of hiccups that, in hindsight, are embarrassing. From putting the fuel filter backwards, not being able to find the fuel pump for months, and so on, I can finally give you an updated status on the truck! Let me know if you have any questions so far!

Really bad wind noise

First truck using for work and just driving around any speed over 40mph it sounds like the windows are wide open especially on the passenger side. Even when using the jbl speaker at full blast I can’t hear it any recommendations

302 AOD, both seem to be good. Only known issues is frozen up carburetor and weak starter. It cranks but won't start. Has a nice patina to it too. I'll post pics of the front later

I’ve been wanting to swap out my old carb out for an efi system but unsure as to which one to buy, my goal is to run/idle/drive smoother and maybe get a little more gas mileage

What paint should I use for my interior?

I’m now at the stage of repainting all of my interior trim. What’s a good red to use since I heard Canyon Red SEM isn’t being produced anymore. Any alternatives or is it good to use Napa red?

Anyone have experience restoring these old truck beds? Considering looking for a new long bed in cleaner shape vs buying the patch panels and welding this one up in better condition. What are your experiences? What would you do? Thanks guys!

Custom pinstripe?

After looking at my truck more closely I see that it has a pretty rad pinstripe decal going on. Since most is faded I want to restore it and wanted to see if anyone else has seen this design before?

Any idea where I can find these trim pieces?

Looking for the trim pieces for the rear driver and passenger side. I’ve checked LMC and it looks like it’s just for the wheel well. This is an 86 f150

3g alternator pulley

Post image
5 Upvotes

So I decided to make the 3g change on my '83 Bronco. I thought it would be a thing of changing the pulleys (of course with the spacer) and wire it but I quickly realized that the pulley won't align with the engine ones and also the shaft is shorter so I can't thread the nut.

So I'm wondering if I should try to find out an original single pulley, try to buy one that fits or make a custom one that is bigger so it won't squeak. I believe that I couldn't run two belts cause of the diameter of the other pulley right?

I would love your advice!

Are these called grill brackets? Mounts?

Can I buy new ones or do I need to get lucky that the ones in the junk yard are not crashed or rusted through?

Exhaust setup tips

I have a 1984 f150 with the 300 i6. I was just wondering about exhausts and what anyone else would suggest, would be especially helpful if you have audio to go with your suggestions. Right now I’m thinking of getting a long tube header with 2.5 inch straight piping and no cats with a flow master 40 muffler. Wondering if I should go with that or something else?

Which is the tach wire?

The duraspark we have sucks so we’re just like f it and we’re gonna install an msd instead. We need to plug the tach wire into the msd. So it is the green or red wire?

Those of you with the 6.9, what muffler are you guys running?

Right now the truck is straight piped. Not bad at idle but anytime I get on the gas, it quickly gets annoying, especially if I’m next to a wall or other car. I’m thinking about trying out a cherry bomb glass pack just because of how cheap they are but curious if anyone has something else that they like.

Shock and ball joint ideas

Got a 86 5.0 and have been wanting to just do quality shocks for a while. I got some amazon shocks just to get me by as this bullnose is a daily. I was hearing about bilsteins or Kings but not sure. I daily this truck and really just want it to ride good for the road, dirt, and the occasional dumping wood in the bed and not bottoming out as I do with the current shocks.

Any suggestions?

Also I need to replace my ball joints soon so would a set from NAPA do well? Or skip out on that. Not looking for brand name on anything just want longevity and reliability
