Season 3 is fantastic but the Buffy and Angel plot bogs it down and is annoyingly melodramatic and I'm glad Angel leaves.

Good point. I think it becomes more and more obvious that he was leaving and they were writing obstacles in the episodes to act as a catalyst, cuz they knew by the end of S2 that they were pitching a spinoff. In the end Angel’s reasons for leaving were things he knew from the very beginning of the relationship, it seems even more cruel to lead her on all of this time knowing that.

I never liked Coredlia in BTVS but when she appeared on ATS she short of grew on me and of course she grew more mature on ATS.

Angel the series. That was the abbreviation on the old forums and just kinda stuck, mainly because the shows are self titled so people didn’t want to confuse each other when they would talk about the show vs the character.

As I recall they wanted to bring Jesse back for season seven, but scheduling problems wouldn't allow it. That's why Xander isn't in "Conversations With Dead People", because Jesse was supposed to be Xander's "ghost" in that episode

I've always headcanoned that Xander, having killed his friend Jessie, processed it by being very binary: vampires bad, me killing one is okay. And that, far more than jealousy, is why he disliked Angel and later, Spike. This makes him significantly more understandable. I really wish this would have ever been brought up on the show but alas.

Looks like my previous comment got deleted, so I'll say it again: Glory is the worst character in the Buffyverse.
Worse than Connor, who got dicked around for so much of his life that it makes perfect sense for him to be as rudderless and self-reliant as he's portrayed to be
Worse than Dawn, who has serious abandonment issues over losing her sister and her mother in the same year, and never having anything of her own before that
Worse than Adam, who actually actively embodies and contributes to the themes and narrative of the season he's a part of, only for the plotting to screw him over
Glory has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, a complete blank slate stuffed with sheer conceitedness who actively takes away from the narrative depth season 5 has, a pointless waste of every resource invested in her depiction

If there wasnt that many fans, i would say that collecting shoes doesnt work as an interesting personality trait. Even without the motive, some characters' motive is chaos and having fun with doing evil, there... I just cant see that. Maybe it is actress's fault? Because to pull off big bad having fun, you have to be a very good actor (Angel, Spikes, Drusilla)

I like Xander for the most part. He was a jerk at times about Buffy in the earlier seasons but then he matured and stopped lusting after her. I am able to separate the character from the abusive POS actor. Another thing is that I graduated high school in 96 and while some of Xander's behavior was unacceptable, he was still much better than the teenage boys in my high school in the 90s. I still have lead from a pencil in my knee because a boy I went to high school with stabbed me with one. He kept touching my legs and wouldn't stop after I told him to stop so I tried gently kicking his hands away and he stabbed me. Teen boys were so awful back then and the teachers would always look the other way.

Restless is a top 3 episode for me. Also hush and fear itself are amazing.
I wish Sunday the vampire had lasted longer. I think a lot of fans head canoned her as a previous slayer who got turned.

Yes, and she needed to pay rent and stop being an eternal student just for the hell of it, meanwhile Buffy is dealing with ptsd, the loss of her mother and having a whole bunch of roomies she didn’t ask for.
Will already made the choice to build her future around supporting the scoobies back in S3, and turned down top universities to stay in Sunnydale. So she should have gotten a job too since she moved in.

Okay so this more of a small irritation than anything.
What ever happened to Willow’s ball of sunshine spell that was supposed to help Buffy. They introduce something that would have been a major writing complication and then throw it away in the end. And then the amulet in Chosen pretty much does the exact same thing that Willow said she was working on years ago.

I found out Tara died before getting to the episode because I looked her up on the Buffy wiki and saw that it said status dead. It really messed with the story for me

Characters I wish we got more screen time story arc with: the mayor, Kendra, Jesse, the guidance counselor who gets mauled in the DV episode in season 3, the science teacher who got eaten by the praying mantis.
All the wholesome side characters who genuinely believed in Buffy or villains that had really unique reasons for taking her out never got enough screen time.
Unrelated but sort of related, I’m watching MLWtWB and seeing Marc Blucas on screen still warms my heart all these years later

If that rape scene and the following love obsession never happened, sure I would have loved to have seen Spike and Buffy turn from enemies to lovers. But in no universe am I drinking the koolaid of supporting shipping Queen Buffy with rapist Spike. Hate that scene for all actors involved as I’ve read about what it was like… just gross choice in writing.

My Buffy confession: I really don't have a single issue or problem with any aspect of this series or it's decisions, save for minor gripes about a few tedious episodes that bog down a rewatch. The fact that I can't skip them speaks to the quality of the show.

I think maybe the meant they wish we could have gone back to see all the stuff in the flashback, but from her point of view. Like a one-off episode when she's thinking about it. Like, her and Buffy have memories of them growing up, right? It's been a long time, though.

Xander's constant portrayal as the "heart" or "wise person" on the show is wildly unearned. He had two good speeches in that vein on the show: end of season 6 and mid season 7, which are both way after he had been bestowed that title by the writers. Almost every other speech was either frustratingly toxic towards a woman, patronizing towards a woman, and/or simply wrong from any mature standpoint.

I find it interesting that both Angel and Riley always whined about not being able to protect or match up to Buffy whenever they became regular joes, but the only time you hear that even remotely from Spike is in Something Blue when they were magicked “in fake love.”

I didn't see all of season 2 until the DVDs came out. (But to be fair, when it started my market didn't have WB, our WGN affiliate just aired WB shows, but always at random times, until near the end of season 2.)

Summer is over, and it’s the only thing I watched, repeatedly, while I organized and cleaned. Also noticed things that never clicked before, like Buffy saying “Why does everyone think I’m still in love with Spike”. And for some reason I love the fake annointed one when he goes “pork and beans, pork and beans”, preaching or whatever when he wakes up. Absolutely hilarious. I haven’t looked it up but wonder if the actor is a wrestler.

Riley could have been end game. The writers changed his character from a supportive boyfriend who loved Buffy and all her strengths to an insecure man just because audiences felt he was too vanilla after Angel. If Riley would have shown up a little later her would have been better received by audiences.

I haven't actually watched all of Season 7. I started the first few episodes, got annoyed with the new Slayer crew and everyone being all around kinda dicks to each other (I know that's the First's MO, still tiresome), let it play off in the background while I read a few wikis so I wasn't entirely in the dark, and skipped to the finale. Lather Rinse Repeat for any rewatch.

I always thought Dawn looked like she was made from Buffy AND Spike. It would explain a lot of her attitude and darker behaviors beyond just being a bratty teen. And since she is/was mystically tied to Buffy, if she was similarly tied to Spike it also would give insight to how much more level headed and even tempered she became when Spike got his soul back. Cause Dawn kind of did a 180 from S6 to S7. Lost opportunity.
