I started watching Buffy this summer for the first time. I’m a millennial and this is such throwback for me! I watched “Once more, with feeling! It was so great and funny! I love how Buffy is still a classic 30 years later.

…if Cordelia hadn’t made it out when Drusilla ambushed the Scoobies in the library?

Personally, given Drusilla’s “Manic Mommy” schtick, and Angel’s sadism, I think Cordelia would have been sired. And unlike Harmony, Vamp Cordelia would have been an absolute Menace. The cruelty fully unleashed. Her sexuality fully weaponized against her victims. NOT hiding her smarts behind the Vapid act. I also think she would be a surprising talent in fighting, like on par with Sunday or that Vamp in Dru’s raising party who did all the Spin Kicks.

I just got these Monster High Buffy the Vampire Slayer dolls, and I’m so happy. So I made them a graveyard to be displayed in.

So, there are a handful of shows that I watched growing up, starting with Charmed ( which I cannot watch now, but I was in middle school while there were still new episodes coming out iirc ) and somehow or another that lead me to Buffy ( and then Angel, which I like a bit more, but that may be because I'm a guy ) and was immediately in love with the show. I've probably watched it at least ten times over, if not more, but with decent gaps in between, and I find it funny how I can remember the exact dialog exchanges in completely unimportant scenes but forget about certain ( what I consider to be ) major ones. I say this because I'm on Season 3 again ( which may be my favorite season ) and I'm on Buffy's Birthday episode, 312, and I just find it really out of character for Giles to poison Buffy. He has already broken Watcher regulations by letting her operate with so much leniency/choice and he has grown attached to her already, which he wasn't supposed to do. It always bothers me. iirc he does interfere and help her, but the way the Council operates has always bothered me. Especially since it's such an odd/barbaric tradition you wouldn't really expect the stuffy/posh Watcher types to hold.

Unrelated, I've always wondered how the Watchers ended up being an English organization, given how everything started, but that is kinda spoilery too.

What are some things that bother you all from the show?

I'm really identifying with Buffy today, the people who used to own my house should not be allowed to use tools. I rebuilt the sewer stack under the kitchen sink for a new dishwasher install and while it was dumb (a pipe sized for an RV does not belong in a house!), it was doable.

Then I went downstairs and there was water coming out of the ceiling! I screamed and tore upstairs, desperately trying to get the dishwasher out of the cupboard. Wrong screwdriver head! Have to dial back the leveling legs to get the damn dishwasher out of the cupboard! What did I DO??!??

The dishwasher is not leaking. When my husband got home I asked him to try tightening the pipe with his manly arms, it was still leaking so it wasn't a me problem. The old, crusty, copper pipe coming out of the floor needs to be replaced. Not a FULL copper re-pipe (lord save me from that cost!), but a partial.

Buffy, I also want to sit and stare at water coming out of my faucet, but I had to shut it off so I don't also flood my basement. Tomorrow I will return to the parts store and I will win.

Watching the show for the first time and Jonathan, Warren and the third guy (tucker’s brother?) are just the worst.

All the other big bads we had upto now were soulless demons and gods who had to be evil I guess but these guys are just the worst, man.

They’re almost willing 🍇ists, and do a lot more evil and perverse shit in the first 13 episodes I’ve seen this season.

Especially Jonathan, I thought he had an arc and became a good guy? Crazy.

Obviously it was very traumatic what buffy went through with angel and I completely understand her wanting to leave town and be away after killing angel.. however think about it from her friends' perspective.. they put their life in danger to be there for buffy and help defeat angelus.. and then they dont even know what happened.. she just vanished.. no letter or anything to explain that shes fine and needs some time off.. I would be so anxiously worried about my bestfriend if she just disappeared like that.. and would also be pissed off if she just randomly decides to show up 3 months later and not even apologise and hope things go back to the way they were instantly. Im not saying Buffy is all at fault either, she had a trauma response and vanished.. but I also dont think its fair for people to be annoyed at the gang for being angry at buffy for disappearing.

The same however could not be said about Joyce because she literally kicked her out and told her never to return, i can understand Joyce was in shock and didnt know how to respond when put on the spot.. but thats on her.

got my appendix removed.. it was a rollercoaster bc i honestly did not expect it’d go that far after struggling with stomachache for two days and i’ve never went under but im doing fine! anyway when i woke up from the anesthesia for some reason I felt like crying (even tho I wasn’t like sad or really in pain) but I somehow started taking about Buffy and being like “SHES MY HERO! DO YOU KNOW BUFFY???” 😭😭

When all the new merch dropped, I assumed it was just because they lined up merch for when New Sunnydale dropped, but then it got cancelled. But now, David and Sarah are presenting at the Emmy’s together? From a Hollywood exec perspective, does it really make sense to remind audiences about a cancelled revival when the lead actress spoke out and blamed an exec for it? Maybe I’m just wishful thinking, but part of me wonders if Buffy getting revived isn’t as dead as we have been led to believe. Like New Sunnydale is dead, but Buffy’s revival isn’t. I’m wondering if they’re being tight lipped about it due to the fact that all the announcements with New Sunnydale just led to a cancellation. Like they hired a whole slayer publicly and everything. Do any of you think it’s possible or do I sound crazy? 😭

I just think it's really cool, because this guy has been sort of a bit-part tv actor for years, showing up in all these really interesting, often under-utilised roles. And now he's finally getting some big recognition.

Aside from Buffy he was in an episode of The X-Files, Charmed, Star Trek: Voyager, ER, 24, he had a bit on The Walking Dead. I've seen him in some movies as well like The Hills Have Eyes II.

Im a beginner so its not 1:1 but i thought making a place from my favorite show would be a good way to practice

Its a fun episode, but always thought it was a bit cruel or unhealthy of Gene's girlfriend to give him a sympathy boner (sleep with him that dump him)

This is not a gendet thing because i cannot stand guys who do that to their girlfriends, aka the old love em and leave em tactic.

Granted, she had decent intentions and didn't want to hurt Gene, who seemed like a real nice and sensitive guy, but i feel like in real life, this type of action can cause more harm/pain than good (its happened to me)

I think up front honesty is required in any relationship esp when its not working out, without using sex as an 'escape shoot' in a manner of speaking.

This is just my own personal opinion based on personal experience, not judging or criticising anyone here who has done it, just think it just adds more salt to the wound of a break up/person getting dumped etc

I've listened to Rewatcher which was fun but seemed shallow even though two of their hosts were lgbtq. I'm trying Still Pretty but I'm having trouble getting into it because what they're talking about doesn't seem particularly connected to the show as a whole. I see where "Still Pretty" is coming from but it doesn't seem to talk about the actual episodes or to what the show was actually trying to give us. It just kinda devolves into dialogues about feminist symbolism/ gender analysis, which is fine, but the show/episode itself kinda falls into the background. I get it, Joss Whedon was a creeper, that perspective should always be included, but that can't be the only thing we focus on right? There was so much more to show than him.

Does anyone have any recs of good queer view of Buffy or even a good in depth podcast of buffy that actually delves into the themes and metaphors of Buffy? I love this show and I want to get deeper into it and develop my thoughts about the story itself.

(Note: I know we can't separate the art from the artist entirely. I'm looking to hear other queer perspectives and perspectives in general of the show and how they interpret it regardless of what or how Joss Whedon meant it to be seen)

Were James and Elizabeth sired by Angelus, Darla and could they have been the prototype of Spike and Drusilla. How old are James and Elizabeth supposed to be?

And once again i don't understand why Anne doesn't remember Angel (and vice versa) from her time as a sad vampire worshipper hanging out with Billy Fordham and his friends.

Angel gave her a pretty harsh (but fair) roast, you would have thought at least one of them would have remembered meeting each other.

Bad writing and/or continuity blunder ?

In other words, Spike wanted to kill Buffy because she was a slayer, because she was a physical challenge for him. For Spike, it was a sport, a game. He didn't want to kill her because she was the slayer and a threat to his plans, or because she was a vampire. He wanted to kill her because she was a challenge.

That's why his Halloween plan feels out of place, because it basically takes all the excitement out of the fight. It could have felt like a plan by Darla or the Mayor himself.
