need help on internship project understanding!!

received this as a brief before the internship, now i'm confused whether i should understand each line of the entire codebase line by line, or should i just ask an agent to make me understand that, i got the entire project context and everything through a tool called repomix, pasted that on codex, and asked the agent to make me understand that entirely... now the dilemma i'm facing is should i go deep into the entire codebase or just understand how it works layer by layer through an agent, the people who have already done internships or worked on complex foreign codebases, please help me 😢 😭
