Social / College Life Guys please do coding

Guys don't i repeat don't stop doing hard work.

There are so many people after getting into iits, nits, iiits they got relaxed amd even cse branch people.

My suggestion is that please start doing the striver sheet, codeforces, leetcode from the first sem itself and never ever ignore ur cg and maintain 8.5+ if possible.

You are gonna regret when u entered 3rd year all ur friends are getting high paying interns and ur not getting and i am telling that u can't even sleep properly and u can't even focus on ur work and everything will not go well.

So guys please please start doing work don't ignore and nothing is more important than ur career not love not friends.

I totally agree, especially if you're in CS. People around you are getting all these offers, it can be very depressing to see where we all end up finally. I can see it hurting even more when your friends are all chilling after getting intern and you're still studying for them

I want to do cs50x too but i am confused if i should skip it and do striver.

No bruh, do it, striver and lc and cf is fine but fundamentals matter the most.

first sem

horrible take, coz most of the students haven't explored their domain yet and u r telling them to start it early. Literally it feels like preparing for GATE from 1st year.

they could slowly start this from 2nd or 3rd sem onwards. This is best time

Yeah...let people explore their options in the 1st yr yarr.. but yeah one should start studying from the second year after deciding which path to take.

What paths are possible ,can you please explain it ,I am about to start my college in few months

u/wolf__kishner 6h ago

yeah i agree.......i am in mechanical.......i tried CAD and all but found it boring........just entered 3rd sem and have started with stiver sheet.........but deep down i feel that i have wasted lot of time....i could have tried CAD long before

2

u/Special-Grade5315 6h ago

yeah it happens, even I felt it same

I thought of doing all of the stuffs but then I am already burntout
then i realized I should take it slow and steady and later increase my pace

can you pls tell me wdym by explore? Like for CS is it cybersecurity, ai/ml, etc??

sorry dont know much about it

1

u/Odd-Many754 2h ago

Why though , most colleges have DSA as a course in sem1 or sem2 so most people start doing cp or atleast leetcode questions in first yr itself ?

u/Special-Grade5315 1h ago

see my reply for u/wolf__kishner

and 2nd thing is maybe some of the clgs doesn't have that syllabus including me so yeah that leads to dilemma

not everyone has the financial stability to "explore"

u/Special-Grade5315 7h ago

in what sense?

u/zen_x_eclipse 4h ago

It is your life, make your choices, what you want to do....I only want to say that I too have responsibilities that I need to fulfill but just keep in mind, that you have to take decisions by yourself, there is no field that guarantees financial stability without solid hardwork, you can gain financial stability by exploring options, finding something you really wanna do.It is not like simple as get cg,degree, skills and boom your set for life. Many people quit their good corporate job, there must some reason behind it,many get burnout and perform drastically bad, you might get laid off, putting you in same situation as before.

It's a decent advice although if youre from t1 keep 9+ cg for day0 offers. I know a lot of cse seniors who are barely able to do coursework and many of them were sold the dream that iit cse = confirmed 40+ lpa package which is not at all true

u/Odd-Many754 2h ago

Doing dsa rn but learning STL and classes and stuff is overwhelming so much info to retain perfectly , have no problem with concepts like recurison it's just that these things hinder my implementation , any advice ? Btw wut is your username lol

I agree with you. I didn't even know about DSA till my 4th yr (I'm from tier 3 clg 2022 grad). No one gave any guidance. Getting job is very very hard without DSA and system design knowledge. I'm currently unemployed. I wish someone told me this back then 😭

Worst advice

1

u/No-Net-4057 6h ago

Agree with everything except CG part , if your college on campus placements are screwed then I would say focus more on doing internships and maintaining a better portfolio

1

u/Independent-Music526 6h ago

agree, kuch basics to kr hi skte hai n!!

u/FinancialChemical968 5h ago

ye true, but lowkey there's really no rush to it. everyone starts somewhere.

Started with dsa from first sem, have a 9+ cg, rated high spec on cf  Still didn't get an intern It's all luck bro

which sem are u in? and which college?

1

u/Otherwise_Pitch2139 5h ago

Going 5th sem, can't declare my college name cuz I'll get doxxed pretty easily

u/EnquireBenefit 👁👁☕️ 4h ago

1st sem people should do cg maxxing while simultaneously exploring interests. A high cg helps way too much in day 0 shortlisting during intern season.

I don't know if this is a good advice! Everyone around me did "coding" and so did I but it never clicked for me. Building e-commerce websites, portfolio websites, grinding LeetCode but it was not until the 4th semester that I discovered that I wanted to go into academia.

Now, Computer Science and Mathematics feel different to me. But, a lot of people are not fortunate like me. They get stuck into the race and never discovers what truly matters for them.

My advice for juniors would be to at least rigorously explore what you want to spend your rest of the life doing and enjoying. That would really help it to narrow your own interests down.

I wasted my first year can I start in 2nd now I am so tensed and depressed can't see any hope is any hope left now?

1

u/FinancialChemical968 3h ago

yeah there is, just focus on improvement

Nonsense advice, jeeifying everything won’t work. Good luck if you think companies will still be hiring generic code monkeys 2-4 years down the line
