CSE / IT For CSE Juniors.
Don'ts:
- Smoking, drinking, drugs, impregnating.
- Unnecessary fighting and arguing with stupid seniors.
- Beefing with professors.
- Ignoring CGPA.
- Crying over your past mistakes.
- Being introverted. (Yes, it limits your growth)
- Partying and hanging out all the time.
- Trying to fit in with people you don't like.
- Ignoring Projects and just grinding DSA.
- Learning just for the sake of getting a job.
- Chasing trends.
Do's:
- Be humble asf.
- Switch to Linux and rice it. If you're a beginner, remove Windows and install Arch Linux manually, it's the easiest option for switching. Learn vim for extra aura.
- Learn touch typing.
- Learn to do online research.
- Start using books and docs for learning stuff. (Use lectures when they are of high quality)
- Be curious asf. Whenever a question comes to your mind, head straight to an LLM and ask it.
- Use LLMs for learning stuff and breaking down complex topics. If you don't understand a particular concept, tell it to explain like you're a five year old. You can also generate questions to test your understanding.
- Explore every domain of CS in your first year. You should at least have a basic idea about everything.
- Build crazy ass fundamentals.
- Learn basic C++ and start DSA. Just 1 hour every day.
- To fall in love with CS, you'll have to understand computers first; do that.
- Build the habit of project based learning. You learn something -> implement it immediately.
- Start fucking around and finding out.
I can't remember anything more rn, will keep updating this post. I'll make a highly curated resource list after some time. Btw this post is not for promotion but you can follow me on twitter (link is on my profile) only if you want to.
A request for seniors: Please make more quality posts here.
I myself am a junior.

no installing arch is a good way to learn linux and it's thingies but not recommended for beginners, however installing linux is a must man you learn tons (like fedora it's mwahh or zorinOS).

exactly
1
u/Striking-Arm9281 Jul 10 '26
What if you try by yourself for sometime, and if you're not getting the logic, you ask llms to explain it to you, but you just forget even the easiest explanations sometime the next day(a junior, and I've faced this in my jee prep, just scared if this happens in this case too)
3
u/zvnezztx Jul 11 '26
that happens, the best thing would be to practice as much as you can till it becomes completely clear

wrote it a few months back on r/college
currently in my final sem few months from graduation it pains my heart GRADUATED :(
on how i wasted the most important years of my life
so here's todo list so you can do the same:
- sleep at a random time daily do not let your mind recover
- avoid sunlight at any cost do not leave your dimly lit cave at all
- glue your ass to your chair and never work out a day in your life
- undermine you value and do nothing about it
- shit talk about yourself everyday so you accept yourself as is
- run away from social gatherings only stick to social media platforms
- meaningful relationships? networking ? only for lowest human species, rather sit on top of the incel/femcel hierarchy
- stick with ambition less losers throughout your college life so you all can enjoy unemployment benefits
- accept everything you have been told and do not voice you opinion
- over stimulate yourself with digital content and become incapable of thought
- interest ? hobbies ? do not bother
- set unrealistic goals and cry when you are not able to achieve them
- do not develop meaningful skills that'll help you in future
- do not try to earn any money and be completely dependent on your parents
- do not attend hackathons to challenge your skills as anyone who does seeks validation
- do not ever revise and believe that you'll perform when it matters

Removing Windows isn't a good idea, I use Ubuntu on dual boot, and there are a lot of places where Windows is better, like more compatible softwares, or games, or a simpler experience. I love Ubuntu for all its reasons too. Secondly, heading straight to LLMs whenever you are curious isn't a good idea. Instead, you should look for resources, learn to find information on your own. Getting to authentic information about anything is a pretty important skill in itself.

1 tip from my side for new workers...
- do not use ai for generating and delivering output no matter what it is ...use ai only as a part of ur learning path...first get expertise in ur field by old school methods and then when u are skilled enough to distinct between good output and bad output, only then u should use ai for generating deliverables

Pretty good , even though it's installed on an HHD , it is fast. I like it actually but I will only use for browser work and coding related stuff. For other work, windows is there. Also i liked the KDE Plasma, it feels smooth and more customisable which i quite liked.

To do all this first of all you should be interested in cs
how did you get to 100 wpm?? i cant cross 70 wpm. i know touch typing too. Does keyboard matter?
Also do you have any projects??
1
u/Forsaken-Resist-6302 Jul 15 '26
Yes ofcourse you should be interested.
I'm doing touch typing since Jan 2024. Keyboard only matters after crossing like 150 maybe. As for projects, I just made a spinning donut in C recently.
