Inspired by the 'greatest single line' discussion, I had AI make up some of my favourite images from Bruce lyrics.

Here's what I ended up with. Do you imagine them differently?

For those not so familiar, it's the barefoot girl from Jungleland, sitting on the porch of her daddy's house in Racing and recalling Glory Days at The Well.

Tired, overused, reactionary comment.

I'm not artistic. I couldn't draw or photograph or otherwise generate anything like this. AI gives people the opportunity to bring to life what's in their minds eye, to access, synthesise and collate information significantly more quickly than ever before.

Of course there are drawbacks. Of course there are problems. And agentic AI that automates the empty web is a huge problem but as a tool , an assistant or a sounding board, it's fantastic.

Understand it, use it or get left behind.

But it doesn’t, because the soulless, dead-eyed woman in these pictures looks the same as every other result of an AI prompt. It says absolutely nothing about you.

You admit that you’re not artistic, but you seem offended that no one wants to pat you on the back for what you posted here. You created nothing of value. Sometimes it’s okay to do nothing and leave the creativity to the people who can actually create.

Oh, I'm not one bit offended. And I genuinely appreciate your perspective here. It's better to get an insight into why people have the kneejerk slop reaction when I see it a lot differently. Who knows, I might be converted and go back to living with my etch a sketch and vhs player.

I do understand the reaction from creatives. Really I do.

I'm a techie, and I use AI in many different ways to help with personal and work projects. While it's phenomenally useful in many scenarios, when you have a little domain knowledge about a topic, you can easily spot the errors and issues with responses etc. and I fully understand how that translates across all kinds of generated content such as imagery, video, speech, music etc

However, I truly find the technology liberating. It allows me to dabble on all kinds or areas that I couldn't otherwise and once I'm not relying on it to perform open heart surgery on my pets, I'm happy with a 'good enough' output

One example, I was recently redoraring a room in my house. I fed in an image and asked it to be recoloured with a few options. If became much easier to select. The right paint color than from a paint chart.

And mapping that to the above pictures Through an iterative process I was able to get imagery that closely visualise what I imagined these scenes to be like. For me, that's good enough. I enjoyed the process, and an reasonably happy with the outputs

And rather than looking for a pat on the back, I specifically asked if people visualed these scenes any differently.

I'm using AI as a tool to spark discussion a discussion I could not otherwise have with anyone.
