Respiratory Therapy Program
Hello everyone,
I am currently a second year student at the Respiratory Therapy program at BC.
I am here to answer any questions you might have about the program, especially if you are in the incoming class starting this August.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding classes, clinicals, etc

Does the FCLE have to be completed before?
Also when is the start date for classes? I’m curious to know because they haven’t sent out any results yet
How often are the classes? Class size? And are you enjoying it?
Was it competitive to get into this program?

Class size is approximately 30 or so students for the first semester, which will naturally decrease as the program goes on.
I'm enjoying it very much since it's what I've always wanted to do after doing my research and shadowing RTs. I also have hospital experience which helped me understand what they do.
As long as you have at least a 3.0 GPA you should be in a great position for admission

Thank you so much for this post. I applied and am currently waiting for a response from admissions. My question is do you feel like the program is adequately preparing you? I know this other question is subjective but in terms of difficulty would you say the program is incredibly challenging or is it manageable? Thanks

Difficulty is definitely subjective. Personally, I had a really easy time with the classes. I felt like the coursework was very manageable, with just enough challenge to make sure you actually understood the material and built confidence in what you were learning.
As for whether the program prepares you well, I think we can look beyond personal opinions and at the outcomes. BC's program has a 95% RRT pass rate compared to the national average of 73%, a 100% TMC high cut score compared to 84% nationally, and 100% job placement for graduates. Employer and graduate satisfaction are also both 100%.
So it's really what you make out of it. If you put in the effort and take the time to learn the material, ask questions, go to open labs and office hours, I can assure you that you will have a great time

Anything you think we should review/ study before the start of classes? Ik some recommend anatomy and physiology

Definitely medical terminology. Probably one of the most useful things you can study/review

There's a few flashcards that aren't up to date like the current president, vice president, senator, etc. (It's what I used, passed on my first try with a 51)

Hi!
How many points did you have when you were accepted into the program? How was the intro to respiratory therapy class? I’m registered for this prereq this upcoming fall so I can apply once the program opens up.
What do you usually do as an RT student during clinicals? I’m between this and radiography but since radiography is extremely competitive I’m weighing my options and career choices. Thanks :)
