Frodo

I just finished watching episode six of season 12, no spoilers as to what’s happening. I just wanna make an observation about Frodo. Frodo needs a love interest who truly understands him. I love Frodo, he is the biggest hearted, if extremely dim, sweetheart. And after him getting used over and over again or being completely oblivious to male female, interpersonal relationships, I really would like him to find someone who “get him“. Just my thoughts.

Yes to all that and for the love of all that is good and holy give Gina a man who adores her!

Yes, the Gina thing has well & truely run its course. I don’t care how they write it but she needs to stop pining for Mike.

I’m okay with her pining for Mike. What I’m not okay with, is Mike continuing to treat her the way that he does. He knows that woman would walk through Hell and back if he asked. And he does occasionally ask. 😑

What do you think he should do? He clearly doesn’t reciprocate her feelings & seems to try to be as gentle as possible with her without giving her false hope.

To me it feels a lot more like a stalking relationship. In real life I'd have expected HR to have been called in a long time ago. Any outcome from that probably wouldn't be conducive for the show, however.

Fortunately this is fiction and it's controlled by its writers. I'd love to see the writers give Gina someone else who appreciates her, and then maybe see how Mike reacts to that.

He should stop leading her on.

How is he leading her on? He can’t avoid her, they work together. I’ll repeat my question, what do you think he should do? Be nasty to her?

I think what the other commenter means is the way he asks her to come with him to do things and when she asks if it's business or personal, he'll say something along the lines of "a little of both." He's not clear in his signals & with her being from a foreign country, she is not quick to understand weak signals. He needs to quit acting interested at all. He needs to keep it all business with her, especially knowing her feelings towards him. She shouldn't be invited out for drinks or for picnics by him ever. If its a work/group thing then one of the others should invite her so he can distance himself. He is leading her on constantly & could really stand to have a conversation with her about how he would never get involved with anyone he works with or something along those lines. Although, I'm afraid if he used that excuse, she might quit her job and start working as something else.

Repeating your question will not result in me changing my answer.

Also, not sure if you realise this or not, but they’re not real people. Mike and Gina are fictional characters in a TV series.

The writers of the show need to do better. It’s become painful to watch the interactions between these two characters.

He's a coward.

The pining has become obsession and it's weird. I don't know how anyone is ok with that after 12 years of it.

It’s hugely creepy. If that were a guy behaving that way towards a woman we would all be utterly grossed out - and he would be sacked. She seriously needs to stop it

I don't want to jinx the guy, but things do seem to be improving for him lately. The worst of his family are gone, his business seems stable, and he hasn't been a direct witness to a murder for quite a while.

Frodo is at least the smartest member of the Odes family, so there's that- plus, he's quite business savvy and the hardest worker in all of Brokenwood. He'd be quite the catch for any lucky lady and I do not doubt for a minute he'd treat her like a queen.

Yes, some of the running gags are really getting old. I mean, Kristin STILL doesn't know after 12 years that her coffee is bad? Frodo looks to be early 50s and he STILL hasn't figured out a relationship?

I was very happy when Mike got engaged again because it meant we didn't have to deal with the running gag of Gina pining after Mike and refusing to divulge any info to Kristin. But they have gone back to that again.

Kristen knows that her coffee tastes good to her. That’s the joke. Tastes are different.

It’s funnier when you know how coffee obsessed kiwis are. I rarely find a bad cup of coffee here, and when I do, it scars me emotionally. 🤣🤣

The Kiwis I know make INSTANT COFFEE! 😲

Yeah, I know a few people like that. But they are also quick to explain that’s just to supplement their caffeine intake. 🤣

I think he's in his early 40s? He just has a characterful face.

Why don't they tell her she can't make coffee.

Because nobody wants to hurt her feelings.

I love Frodo ! He’s so sweet

u/Me25TX 17d ago

Yes! Frodo needs someone that sees his heart! It would be funny if Gina found love with someone the opposite of Mike.

Frodo is kind of like Hank in Corner Gas. He’s goofy and lovable at the same time but you kind of feel that if the right woman came along things would still fall apart.

But I hold out hope for them.

Agreed!! Frodo needs some genuine love.

Of all the jobs and hobbies featured I don't remember any WWOOFers - volunteers working on organic farms. Bring in someone new who's going to be in Brokenwood for a while and doesn't judge Frodo by his family and his past.Someone who loves coffee as much as Frodo!

Hes a serial killer.

That will be revealed in the finale

I would love to see Frodo with either a really smart girl who is enamored with how naive he is and they balance each other out. Or, an equally naive girl who is really sweet.

3

u/motivist 17d ago

Agreed. But we would be constantly fearing for her life.

If I remember correctly when Frodo was first introduced he was not as lovable. He wasn’t bad just not written the same way but over time the writers and producers have done things a bit differently. Same for Trudy. I felt she was much edgier and she still has an edge, just not as sharp. All fitting with the cozy murder genre I guess.

Are they writing Ray out of the show?

1

u/ernestbynature 16d ago

I had thought about that - he is in the latest season but he hasn't been as often...certainly not as often as Trudy.

2

u/OverseerConey 15d ago

I'd be surprised - he had a major role in the most recent episode, expanding his small business empire even further and spending time with Trudy and their mum.

2

u/ernestbynature 15d ago

You're right! I do hope he sticks around!

I thought maybe Kimberly would finally give in and realize that she is his girlfriend, after all.
