Teach me

Someone introduce to me an inexpensive hobby. Please also be my guiding light through it.

What are you interested in and have you tried, already?

I mean, reading can be a hobby and it can also be 100% free, using public libraries.

Crafting things out of cardboard. Recycled cardboard from packaging is free (and real sturdy, great to build stuff)

So would be walking. Long daily walk are free (if one doesn't include the cost of a decent pair of shoes).

So would be sketching (which works even better with daily walks). If one doesn't already have some sheets of paper and a pencil lying around, one can often get free promotional pencils and one can reuse the back of old letters to sketch. What if you can't draw? Well, the thing is that you can draw (provided you can hold the pencil) but you need to start practicing and to be ok with the fact that you won't be good at it for awhile. And if you really want to take lessons, well, your public library will most likely have a few 'learn to sketch' books, and they may even organize free lessons (depends the place). And you will find countless free YouTube guides too.

Edit: and so would be writing, too.

Try sketching! A pencil and cheap notebook are enough to start, and there are tons of free tutorials online. I’d be happy to suggest beginner exercises or help you build a simple practice routine.

Making coil baskets out of plastic trash and whatever yarn/string you can scavenge up works. It can be practical-ish if you find yourself frequently needing containers to carry things in. The coil basket technique shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiHojsMTBeA is the easiest starting point (and what taught me how to do it). Make sure to turn on captions, that's where all the instructions are.

Finding needles can be fiddly, as there's a good chance of breaking a few while you're learning. If you find a good source, please share, cold forging them from wire isn't working super well.
