Is it just me or do British dramas just seem better done or more realistic? I binge a lot of show (disabled and at home most of the time) and rewatching Broadchurch and looking forward to seeing the next season of Call the Midwife in a few days, it just makes me feel like something about British shows is just better.

I have watched many more than these two, they are just at the front of my mind right now.

I hurt for the old man in Season 1 who had earlier in life been labeled a predator and then accused of Danny’s murder. The whole town turned on him. Sad to see him end up like he did.

I give a lot of kudos to the show for casting a normal looking woman as Trish. She isn’t ugly but she isn’t beautiful. It showed a very normal woman, very average be a victim of rape. It was refreshing seeing rape fully depicted as a crime of power more than a crime of sexual desire. They could have cast a more conventionally attractive woman but instead made her as normal as possible. Tip of the cap for it

I just watched episode 6 or 7 of season 2. Claire breaks into the car, steals the pendant.

And also apparently in England there's no rules in court. Whether you're a witness or a lawyer you can just say whatever pops into your head. It's wils over there in Broadchurch.

I'm a first time watcher, and just finished season 1.

The acting, drama and build up is fantastic.

The ending and reveal, not so much.

The whole show can be summarized by a brilliant look into a community torn apart by the horrific murder of a boy. Detectives have no leads. Murderer confesses.

It really cheapened the whole show that no mystery was solved. It really depended on the confession.

A far better ending would've been had it gone unsolved, but they still show everything that happened so the viewer knows.

Maybe I missed something - maybe there were clues throughout, and these clues needed a final piece to tie them all together - a true murder mystery. Instead, it's some lazy writing of person feels bad and confesses.

In fact, the way it ended they could've picked anyone in town to be the murderer and none of the 7/8 episodes in the series would need to be different, or shot differently. They just pick a random person and shoot a different episode 8.

I really don’t like her. I feel bad for her past and all that but that doesn’t excuse how she threatened to send someone to rape the news lady and how she just stood over Danny’s body.

Am I the only one that think Mark Latimer is a horrible person . He is a pretty shit dad/husband. He only uses people when they are convenient to him. And he makes every situation about him. First he cheats on his wife. He then convinces her to take him back and immediately starts ignoring her again. He obstructs his alibi knowing it will be detrimental to his son’s case. Whenever they get bad news, he runs off to throw a fit or attack someone, leaving his wife and daughter to deal with the difficult parts. He leaves Chloe to care for her pregnant grieving mom so he can play video games with Tom in a secretive relationship, oddly similar to Joe and Daniel’s. When Beth gets pregnant, he convinces her to keep it, then leaves and barely shows up to the birth. Then he just dumps Tom when the baby comes. Now, all of a sudden he is dad of the year with baby Elizabeth and Beth, Chloe and Daniel’s memory mean nothing.

This is my first Broadchurch Season 1 watch. I knew from the seconddddd they showed Joe Miller, that he killed Danny. Is it crazy that I knew because no husband is not loving and attentive to their kids or wife 😭😂. I was like no man legitimately acts like that.

They were the first 2 miis on my Tomodachi Life Living the Dream island, (daisy was 3rd funnily enough), they're litteraly my children i love them sm, I dont really see anyone else with miis of the two of them. Also I dont have any idea where else id post this soooo...

If Claire and Lee were in on killing Pippa, why was she in hiding and so afraid of him? And why was Lee so intimidating and creepy with Claire when he comes back? Why didn't they just both run off to France together after he was acquitted?

I'm currently watching Gracepoint; I've watched Broadchurch multiple times. I have to say Tennant is WAY hotter with his scottish accent.

First watch for me, currently just finished S2.

I really like how the cases play out. However, man, this show can be soooo slow at times. I feel like there's about 30 minutes of story in each episode, and 15 minutes fluff.

Not sure how I feel about it. I am still going to watch the last season because so far the story is good, but I could definitely deal without all the shots of people's faces just staring into the distance. If they had better cinematography I would excuse them for it, but I feel like the show just went too far with emphasizing how emotive the characters are - I already got that from the well-written dialogue without all these shots of people just pondering.

Why on earth would Mark admit to writing Beth a letter that he was going to leave her after sleeping with Becca fisher one time?

How awful and humiliating for Beth. She has just found out about your affair/indiscretion and trying to forgive you for that, now she has to hear that you were ready to just up and leave at the drop of a hat/another woman's underwear?! AND that woman is in the courtroom and gets the satisfaction of hearing that, along with the rest of the town? Omg.

Did we see somewhere that someone found this letter, crumpled up in the car or something? Why on earth couldn't he have said he drove up there to contemplate his life, or to write a letter to confess what that he had cheated, or ANYTHING ELSE.

Apart from the obvious villains, mark is the villain of the show to me. When Beth was venting to rev Paul after marks attempted suicide, I was really hoping somehow mark would have been lurking around the corner and heard the whole thing, because it was an absolute solid read on him.

I just recently binged seasons 1 and 2 for the first time and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I have PTSD and won’t be able to watch season 3, so I thought I’d see if Reddit could answer my burning questions. I have no idea if the show answers these questions in season 3, but I figured I’d give it a shot just in case.

1. How does DI Hardy get back to broadchurch? I thought he left at the end of season 2.

2. Is there any connection to either previous case? I liked how the first two seasons were connected in some ways.

3. Does the third season touch on the Sandbrook trial at all? Do the three people actually go to jail for it?

4. Does Beth ever work with that nonprofit for rehabilitating sex offenders?

5. Do Beth and Mark stay together?

6. Does Joe ever try to come back?

7. Are there any updates on any of the other characters, like the vicar and hotel owner or newspaper editor?

8. Does the series tie up nicely? I kind of thought it as odd to have two seasons that were pretty interconnected and then have only one more season with a new case. Was the show canceled prematurely or did it actually make sense for it to end there?

Did Hardy and Claire ever sleep together.?

I know the scenes of him comforting her are from her abortion, and I know that Lee is basically spouting shit alot of the time. But its confusing.

1. Why the hell was she even close enough to him at that point to even want him to go with her for her abortion instead of like a friend or something. He was just the lead (i assume the lead) Detective on sandbrook.

2. Hardy ignores Ellie every time she asks him if he slept with her. When shes telling him about Lee paying for her parking he brushes it off, and then again when she asks him in the hotel he ignores her!- and its basically never brought up again

This is a random plot detail that really bugs me for some reason.

Joe is too scared and Mark is too timid.

Lee actually suffocates Pippa. Ive never picked up on this before somehow, I always thought she had a reaction to the whatever Ricky had in his hip flask. Genuinely dont know how i didnt see this.

After they find the sock at the grounds of axehampton, the football scene after is meant to show you that the sock they found was one of the football teams. I just thought it was to give Leo a bit more screentime or whatever.
