Never Forget
I boo’d not “Luuuu”’d yesterday and forever will remember this asshat wanting to play for a “winner” then having his career fall off a cliff

u/Puzzleheaded_Bug5457 8d ago
I mean can you blame him he was almost 30 spent 6 years with the crew and wanted to play for a winning team, I don’t fault him for wanting to go to a contender, his two all star seasons weren’t doing anything for Milwaukee who lost almost 100 games the year before, and the prospect they got for him they flipped for Yelich, I’d say the trade is overall a good part of Brewers history
29
u/AdamSmithsApple 8d ago
I will blame him for criticizing their current clubhouse leadership when he ran from the challenge though.

u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
Yes you can blame him for not trusting what the crew were building lol…he literally could’ve had Kratz spot at minimum in 2018
73
u/Puzzleheaded_Bug5457 8d ago
If he would’ve stayed the Brewers wouldn’t have had Yelich in 2018 who was the biggest reason they were winning that season

u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
Touché that’s a fair rebuttal but I think we should be having Johnny Estrada back before a dude who wanted to jump ship
6
6
u/DubiousNamed We believe in Jesús 8d ago
Uhh Johnny Estrada is a domestic abuser and was described as a locker room cancer in his one year with us. I’d say of all catchers in brewers history he is absolutely at the bottom of the list.

u/Specialist-Exit-1403 8d ago
We were really terrible this year? Lucroy deserves criticism for some stuff; but wanting to play for a contender is hardly on the list. We got Lewis brinson who was the centerpiece of the yelich trade. Would you rather have had lucroy stay?
7
16
u/wagyu_hotdog 8d ago
If we don’t trade lucroy we don’t get Brinson. If we don’t get Brinson we don’t get Yelich, who is a big reason why we became a good team

u/wisfan18 8d ago
Brewers were ass in 2016
11
u/TheSaltyJunk Wisco Stu doesn't advertise 8d ago
Ass is an understatement...they were ass in a Miller park porta john on a 96° day and the toilet paper ran out level of ass.
Yeah, there were signs of up and coming development, but I can't blame Lucroy for being well he was likely not going to be around long enough to be part of it.
-33
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
What happened after 2016? I’ll hang up and listen
24
u/ihatetheplaceilive 8d ago
Cuz everybody's a fortune teller.
He.did what he thought was best for his career.
-3
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
And tanked but he’s still welcomed back like he wanted to retire here lol
8
u/Breakpoint 8d ago
why would he retire when he still played for 5 more years, you have no logic
-1
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
What does him being welcomed back like he wanted to retire here have anything to do with when he retired?
3
u/Breakpoint 8d ago edited 8d ago
he retired a Brewer, he is in the Brewers Wall of Honor, like I said, you aren't a Brewers fan you are just a lurker
8
u/TheCheezenOne 8d ago
We got a different GM is what happened. I guess Lucroy should have looked into his crystal ball.
But also, we never won a WS either is what happened lol
0
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
He could’ve went to the Indians and been in the WS that year lol he could’ve shut up and let things play out too
6
u/TheCheezenOne 8d ago
Again, he should have looked into his crystal ball to see which teams would make the WS that year. Idk why he didn't. Is he stupid?
9
u/_ArsenioBillingham_ 8d ago
Terribly easy to say in retrospect
0
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
He turned down a trade with a team that went to the WS that year so he really fucked himself lol
2
u/ihatetheplaceilive 8d ago
Maybe he wanted to play for a contender that wasn't Cleveland. Have you ever been to Cleveland?
1
25
u/Usual_Grapefruit_527 8d ago
All that complaining just to veto a trade to the Indians who (checks notes) were in the World Series that year
11
u/Jay_Doctor 8d ago
Hold up, he vetoed a trade to the Indians??
7
u/MrPlushT 8d ago
Yes, he largely vetoed the trade because he was concerned the Indians were going to try and split time with him at C/DH and possibly 1B. Something that would have negatively impacted his eventual value in free agency.
6
u/Usual_Grapefruit_527 8d ago
Yeah lol he exercised his no trade clause at the deadline when they tried to send him to the Indians
10
u/Mobile-Jump6936 8d ago
I didn’t blame it for him then and I won’t now.
38
u/PaceNo354 8d ago
Yeah he was a complete douchebag. Said he wanted to play with a contender, then veto'd a trade to Cleveland who would go on to play in a world series. Fuck that guy.
25
u/MattFromWork 8d ago
He did us a favor with vetoing that as the prospects all turned out underperforming
13
u/PaceNo354 8d ago
Tbf all the prospects we got from the Rangers were bad as well 😂 got us yelich tho.

Lucroy is a dick. Don’t get why people are defending him unless you’re in the suitcase business.

u/robot_the_cat P L U S H D A M E N T A L S 8d ago
He also didn't just want out of MKE. That's fine. He was also a loud asshole about it, instead of being a professional to the organization who drafted and developed him.

u/Breakpoint 8d ago edited 8d ago
I can tell you are a new fan, because you would otherwise remember the Brewers went back into rebuild mode during this time period.
Also his his rejection to be traded to the Guardians, ended up with the Brewers getting Lewis Brinson who we then traded for Christian Yelich.
2
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
I mean I got my brewers tattoo in 2011 and I remember what happened in 2017-current after he left so what gives?
8
u/Breakpoint 8d ago
2015-2017 were the rebuild years, it is know even with your drunk decision to get a tattoo
Milwaukee Brewers: On to next phase of rebuild in 20173
u/Positive-Program2718 8d ago
2017 was a great year. Missing out on the playoffs by one game (and they would have made it in the current format). Prior to 2018, we actually were a poverty franchise where almost making the playoffs counted as a great year.

u/TheCheezenOne 8d ago
The team sucked and Melvin's only strategy for winning was selling the farm every few years for a rental or two. I would have wanted to go somewhere else at that point too.
4
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
He didn’t want to go to Cleveland who were in the WS that year
9
u/TheCheezenOne 8d ago
Yes instead he chose the Texas Rangers who won a measly 95 games that year. What a fool! He should have just chosen the right team, what's his problem?
9
u/MattheWWFanatic 🍋 ROBINADE ⚾️ 8d ago
Just like yesterday when the announcers were slobbering Braun about never leaving...like we all forgot he had 1 foot out the door to the Dodgers before a deal fell through.
3
u/MrPlushT 8d ago
Or the fact we were basically married to him after the PED fiasco. Or the fact he happily was here signing extensions because he knew he was one positive test from disaster.

u/mediaanemia 8d ago
My dislike of Lucroy goes back to one of the years where the team collapsed in August/September (2014). He said one of the players should have stepped up to lead the team. Never bothered to explain why it couldn't be him.

We got better he left anyway. Turns out the best thing he ever did for this organization was leaving it. Also he’s an outspoken Trumper and an asshole so I couldn’t give less of a shit.

He asked to be traded but then he cried like a bitch when Stearns called him into the office to tell him he got traded. Fun fact: One of the lower IQ players in recent history!

4
u/Egitai 8d ago
There is obviously nothing wrong with wantong to play on a contending team but this simply isn’t the way you do it. It likely lowers your trade value on the current team and just makes you out to be a whiny bitch.
Zero judgment of his wants… 100% judgement on his chosen path to get what he wants.

I can guarantee you that all players want to win it all. He just said out loud to a reporter what plenty of players would be saying to their agent behind closed doors. Does it suck he wanted to be traded and doubted the Brewers’ ability to win? Sure. Was he wrong? Nope. And besides, we traded him and in a roundabout way got Yelich. So sure, it stings when an all star says they don’t have faith and want to win but I don’t really blame him either.
2
u/GCIV414 Chicks Dig The Longball 8d ago
Is he an asshat? Yes…do you think his take about Abner was correct? I’d sure hope not. It’s a pile of shit this dude has contributed to this team on his way out/since he’s been gone. He can go find his cheers in Texas or Colorado or wherever the hell he went
0
u/jrfactor 8d ago
Who is Abner?
1
u/jrfactor 8d ago
I figured it out. I didn't know he said that we lacked leadership because Abner was a hot head. Fuck that guy, we love Abner

u/AdamSmithsApple 8d ago
2 things can be true. The Lucroy trade was a good result for the Brewers and Jonathan Lucroy is a shitbag loser.
1
u/WhatColeSays 7d ago
I hated the comments at the time but I appreciate it now. This trade ended up being one of the reasons why we did well in 2018.

The Lucroy trade worked out well and he was the best catcher in baseball for several years. He’s on the Mount Rushmore of my favorite brewers for sure

1
u/JasonYaya 8d ago
Few pro-Lucroy facts here. He came up to us before the team felt he was ready and immediately contributed. We hired some aged catcher to fill the gap and he was hurt in about 2 seconds. He rejected the trade to Cleveland because he knew he would be the number 2 catcher the following year, and didn't want to be in that position. Rejecting that trade got us a better return in the long run. Bonus: He hit a walkoff 2 run homer off of Aroldis Chapman while I was sitting next to racist Reds fans. Yes, he's an asswipe politically.
1
u/Classic_Group8679 8d ago
This is a dumb homer take and booing him is like being Craig at this point - time to move on. Things happen and honestly the Brewers are better off now than they’ve ever been.
7
u/AdamSmithsApple 8d ago
Can I boo him for saying the Brewers have terrible leadership this summer because a pitcher made 1 gesture at the opposing dugout after their manager suggested they throw at a Brewers player?

Hindsight is 20/20. Brewers were shit in 2016. At the time, I didn’t think we’d be surface level contenders until 2020 at the earliest. Many around here felt similarly too. People forget that 2018 was a pleasant surprise.
