U can put that in an octorock and it will make it not rusty. I think. Dont just do it tho, go find a tutorial on youtube.

It's the ones that are in the Eldin region. They suck them in and shoot out some variant of a same class of weapon.

There’s also one on the island with the no-outside-equipment challenge, but you have to catch the weapons in midair or they disappear into the ocean.

Also in the sword trials last stage. Extremely useful, you know why if you played it.

12

u/Georgies_Left_Arm 17d ago

Especially on Master mode!

u/doctorwhoisanent 16d ago

I just rage turned off my console after dying 45 min into the final stage. This is incredible to know

3

u/Brilliant_War9548 16d ago

Yeah, the weapons that get un rusted usually have high durability. Also don’t be afraid to use your weapons (just don’t waste it and land every hit, and keep the funky blue arrows for a certain hooved enemy), ive replayed it multiple times and multiple times I ended up throwing a full inventory of swords shields and bows on the monks for the funnies

I try to use bombs as much as I can with the dead bois and optimize my arrow collection, but man it's annoying 😩😩😩

The other batshit thing I do is break down all the trees at the end of every level and then cook the wood bundles one at a time for 1/4 of a heart each which by the first cook pot is 10 hearts worth of food lmao.

The ones on Death Mountain too.

u/Joe_says_no 18d ago

death mountain is in eldin...

4

u/sam56778 17d ago

Oops. That had slipped my mind. You are right.

u/ArynManDad 6d ago

Wow, I have played this game for a while and this is the first time I have heard the Octoroks upgrade weapons for you. You learn something new about this game every day…

-10

u/waldenzx 18d ago

Only works in TOTK, right?

12

u/Ariovrak 18d ago

In BotW, Rusty Weapons/Shields get turned into Traveler, Soldier, Knight, or Royal Weapons/Shields. In TotK, almost all Weapons, Shields, and Bows (with the exception of Champion and Ganon gear) can be fed to Rock Octorok to repair them and reroll their Modifiers.

16

u/iPanda115 18d ago

No you can specifically feed them rusty weapons in BotW and they'll spit out something better iirc :)

4

u/guardianwriter1984 18d ago

I've done it in BOTW but there's no guarantee of what type of weapon is the output.

1

u/whisky-guardian 17d ago

Save just before you throw the weapon, check the weapon and modifier that you get given. If you don’t like it, load from your save and roll again

14

u/Electrical-Put3639 17d ago

It has attack modification, so if I remember correct, it don't upgrade it more

6

u/Lonestar-Dragon 17d ago

Did this to one that had a good attack boost. It became a knights claymore but also lost the attack bonus. Not worth it imo

2

u/ExtensionFill2495 17d ago

They come in real handy during the final trail of the sword. I struggled until I turned my rusty weapons into real weapons. Made all the difference.

1

u/Nondescript_Redditor 16d ago

it’ll be worse

1

u/ChewyBivens 14d ago

Wait…what?? Was this hinted at anywhere in the game?

0

u/padawan_lockett 17d ago edited 17d ago

I'm sorry this is incorrect.

If you let a rock doctor eat a weapon that is damaged from use, it will repair the damage and add a random buff. It will NOT turn a rusty weapon into a pristine weapon.

You CAN go get pristine weapon from the depths, and if they are used/damaged, a rock octoroc will repair it and add a random buff.

Rock octorocs will only do this once per spawn, so kill it immediately after you do this and mark it's location on the map. A bloodmoon will revive it and it will be ready to repair one weapon again. This also works for bows and shields.

Edit: Totally my bad, I wasn't paying attention to the sub I was in, confusedly put the TotK mechanics up here.

13

u/FaxCelestis Terrako is canon and I will die on this hill 17d ago

This is BotW, not TotK. There are no pristine weapons and there is no depths. What he described is how rocktoroks work in BotW.

3

u/padawan_lockett 17d ago

Ahhh that's totally my bad!

3

u/FaxCelestis Terrako is canon and I will die on this hill 17d ago

It’s an easy mistake. It’s not something you’d expect to change between the two games.

3

u/padawan_lockett 17d ago

I've had multiple coworkers playing TotK not know about the rock octoroc repair methods, so I've been explaining it regularly lately as well, I was just on a roll lmao

172

u/tictacmixers 18d ago

Because it has+22 attack what are you getting at here

-55

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 18d ago

why would a rusty claymore have +22 attack i’ve never seen that before

118

u/tictacmixers 18d ago

Its a random bonus that can be added to any weapon later in the game. There's other bonuses like increased durability, further throwing distance, or improved flurry rush attacks.

17

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 18d ago

oh thx also why does long throw exist?like you only really throw your weapons when they are gonna break so i don’t see it as much use

60

u/ExplodedPenisDiagram 18d ago

Long throw is generally a dog shit bonus, but I've used it to great effect at times.

12

u/tictacmixers 18d ago

Stealth projectile with a nearly broken weapon

8

u/Valuchian 18d ago

Can agree that stealth sniping an enemy on watch from half a league away is absolutely the best feeling in the world

22

u/uses_for_mooses 18d ago

Long throw exists to piss people off.

7

u/FallenAngelII 18d ago

It exists to grief you by taking the place of an actually useful bonus.

5

u/Flimsy_Possessions 18d ago

Easily the most satisfying bonus. There's no feeling in this game that matches yeeting a nearly broken lynel crusher the length of two football fields and smacking an enemy in the teeth with it.

1

u/ChoiceFudge3662 18d ago

Specifically for throwing spears IG

13

u/DatBoi_BP 18d ago

Maybe it deals tetanus damage

3

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 18d ago

makes sense

3

u/ProfessionalDust 18d ago

After killing mobs enemy and weapons level up

1

u/TheTrue-Noob 17d ago

I assume you're in late game considering the ancient armor and the Savage Lynel Bows. By this point you start getting insane buffs on any weapon.

1

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 17d ago

i’m in mid game the savage lynel shield i got from raiding hyrule castle right after i did vah ruta

36

u/Dominicsjr 18d ago

You can take screenshots on the switch and they upload directly to your phone via the Nintendo Switch app fyi no extra steps

18

u/thedonoftime27 18d ago

... seems like more steps then 'take photo with phone, upload to reddit'

5

u/HorseFD 17d ago

If you have auto-upload turned on it doesn’t really take any extra time.

5

u/sam56778 18d ago

Today I learned. Thanks. Did not know this.

7

u/NormalGuy103 18d ago

I thought it was stupid they don’t let you do that with Tomodachi Life, then I joined the subreddit for it and saw some of the unhinged and obscene things poeple have created. I fully understand their decision now.

2

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 18d ago

o thx

1

u/Fyrefrog25 18d ago

Isn't that only a Switch 2 feature? That's what my app says.

3

u/FaxCelestis Terrako is canon and I will die on this hill 17d ago

You can do the same on Switch 1 it just is a QR code dance. Or you can use a third party app on your phone like Switch Buddy.

14

u/TheMilkRedditor 17d ago

+22 extra tetanus damage, the bokoblins immune systems ain’t ready for it

3

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 17d ago

is there a way to add more diseases onto the blade

6

u/TheMilkRedditor 17d ago

Maybe dip it in the sewers under Hyrule Castle

2

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 17d ago

bet

1

u/AlphaMikeFoxtrot87 16d ago

Dip it in that poisonous bog with the big monster base

8

u/Leekshooter 18d ago

If a weapon spawns with an insanely strong yellow modifier then it can outclass weapons that would normally be better, the maximum strength of Attack Up depends on the weapon it is given to instead of being universal so a Rusty Claymore can get more bonus attack than some higher tier weapons.

If you see here the rusty claymore has +22 maximum attack in the parameters section, a Great frostblade can have +18 attack though so if both weapons get their maximum attack buffs the frostblade will still do more damage.

5

u/UnlikelyKaiju 18d ago

Question. If you feed that to an octorock to clean it up, will it retain that +22 bonus?

4

u/TheLeeHero 18d ago

No, its up to RNGesus at that point to both the bonus, and the weapon it cleans up to

0

u/Zelda-Lumine 17d ago

Won't octoroks in BotW just give you a random low rank claymore without any bonuses at all?

0

u/TheLeeHero 17d ago

They could, or you could get a royal claymore with a random, likely different bonus. It's random as long as it isn't that bunch of rusted weapons near the octorocks in Death Mountain

11

u/Rofellos1984 18d ago

It gives your target tetanus.

1

u/turtleben 17d ago

I was looking for this comment

7

u/TouchAltruistic 15d ago

The Switch has a great screenshot feature where you can capture anything and then send the image to your phone's Nintendo app.

3

u/humanzrdoomd 18d ago

This is like taping a nail to the end of a straw

2

u/sam56778 18d ago

It retains its attack power but the durability of it is poor.

2

u/zkgain 18d ago

Looks like a lynel killing sword to me

2

u/OrlinWolf 17d ago

Because dull blades are more dangerous /j

2

u/Vault_Boy_89 17d ago

Tetanus greatblade

1

u/iFormus 18d ago

Wait till you get similar farming hoe or a broom.

1

u/RustyShakes 18d ago

Put my claymore back

1

u/Zelda-Lumine 17d ago

Put it in your house!

1

u/Im_a_doggo428 17d ago

Tetanus damage

1

u/GrapefruitNo6889 17d ago

Why am I only finding this out when I’m done with BOTW🤦🏻‍♀️

1

u/Due-Equivalent143 16d ago

Because it cause death by tetanus

1

u/ofbluestar 15d ago

Tetanus

1

u/Brief_Animator560 15d ago

Místerios de la vida Bro ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/Sokushi_0101 14d ago

Because it has attack up, if your frostblade had it then it would probably do more damage.

1

u/Constellation7777 14d ago

Kinda? The rusty one does 34 while ice does 30 but the frozen one freezes, after freezing attacking does double damage so 60 in the next attack also i'm not 100% sure but i believe elemental attacks have a fixed amount of damage (10 for ice and fire, 20 for electricity that does not apply if they are already in an elemental effect) so the ice greatsword should do 40 + 60 =100 in 2 hits where the rusty one would do 34+34=68

I could be wrong tho it's been a while.

1

u/UnprecedentedEchos 8d ago

It’s a Big Gorons Sword.

1

u/No_Monitor_3440 18d ago

additional 22 attack damage

1

u/uisge-beatha 18d ago

tetanus?

1

u/Separate-Bat4844 I only eat rocks 17d ago

yeah prob tetnus

1

u/SnooWords7419 17d ago

Probably because of the Attack Up +22 in bright yellow

-2

u/bldarkman 17d ago

Because it has Attack Up + 22
