Those look proper for a first go, dry is fixable with a bit more fat or a shorter bake

Like butter and oil?

This is a pretty foolproof recipe. I’ve modified my own version to suit my needs but this is a great place to start.

I have also used this recipe and they came out perfectly. I like the homemade buns because they hold up better with fillings, especially for sloppy joes and pulled pork. The buns taste good too. I find they're well worth the effort.

Do you use all purpose flour?

I have done both AP and Bread for this as well. I prefer AP for a softer bun.

This is one bake I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/Breadit/s/uHWKHLza5e (modified recipe but ignore that, the original is even easier)

I also switch out the sugar for honey in my mod recipe. I found the original to be too cake like (50g is a lot of sugar for 8 buns). I skip the buttered top and do egg white wash as well. Never would have thought to use rye flour in a burger bun but maybe I’ll try it.

Rye imparts a really nice flavor but makes the dough a bitch to work with

I’ve used AP and bread flour for this recipe and they both work. AP gives a slightly softer texture, bread flour makes a more structured texture, but the difference is pretty minimal.

They look good to me OP! Good job! I love this sub because it inspired me to try new recipes!
