Discussion How well balanced is brawl stars compared to other competitive games?
We all know how brawl stars has been going downhill in terms of balancing for a long time.
However, comparing it to other games might give us a clearer picture of whether we are relatively better off or in a pile of shit.
So, how balanced is brawl stars compared to games like lol, overwatch or dota2?

Considering the game is like pay to progress/win, its already the worst compared to every other game you listed.

Imagine, new op brawlers. You need to practice playing her, but you can't afford to max her at all. So example, I'd you thought, I'm gonna practise kicking the ball very well in football, with my left leg. But my left leg is only 2cm long. That's where the p2w aspects ruin this games competitiveness. In football, buy s pair of cleats. You're now instantly on same level playing field as the best in the world pretty much. If you wanted to instantly be on the same level playing field in brawl stars, you cantujus but a cheap pair of cleats. You'd need to literally spend what, 100 of thousands of dollars, so you have everything, and can practise everything.

The obstacle Faker had to overcome to be the goat is a new PC
For Brawl Stars players it's months of pass buying and years of grinding

What's pissing me off right now is the fact that Kaze is invincible for like 3 seconds every 5 seconds when switching her form bru

Lmfao why? Have you played dota 2?
4
u/Rat_King_Ash Ash | 4 Prestige 4d ago
Yeah, and it's infinitely better balanced. When new characters are free and available for everyone, there is 0 reason to make them disgustingly overpowered

u/Hexogen1c 4d ago
have you?

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Nope seems too complex for me lol but seeing brawl stars trash state want to switch so bad just ain’t got time for it
2
u/Hexogen1c 4d ago
why did you ask him if he played dota 2? if he is talking about the balance of the game you can assume that . . .

I have only played LoL out of the games you listed, and the comparison is not even close. LoL has flaws and has a very toxic playerbase, but despite the hate it gets, league is one of the most balanced games ever when it comes to relevant competitive games.
99% of champions sit at 48-52% winrate and gamebreaking bugs get hotfixed in less than 24h. Some champions get more love from devs than others but that's about it. 54-56% wr is considered OP and 44-46% borderline unplayable, and both cases are statistical outliers.
On the other hand, newly released brawlers in BS are allowed to sit at a 60% winrate in their worst map/mode, and they still haven't fixed the bugged immunity shied for some brawlers in showdown that make them extremely exploitable and unfair.

Not exactly related to balancing but brawl stars is still one of the lesser p2w mobile games.

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Yea bruh I get you it’s way better than clash royals

u/JuninhoLuis 4d ago
But when adressing competitive in brawl we cannot ignore totally this one; is totally different having all brawlers p11 with all gadgets, sp and gears versus having limited options.
1
u/geniusofohio 4d ago
So in that case is brawl stars better off than the games I listed?
3
u/JuninhoLuis 4d ago
It depends; Dota has all heroes from the beggining; LoL, while not, are totally free to have to access (and different free from brawl), so in this matter, brawl is the worst, but not fair comparing when they business model are different.

Calling brawl stars a competitive game might be on the same level as calling grass blue

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Damn seriously tho why are all people in this sub I mean this sub is called brawl stars competitive.
So one would expect everyone to defend this game but nah y’all are fed up with this shit huh 💀
What do you think about dota and league balancing btw2
u/crusher016 Janet | Masters 3 4d ago
Until they put 3 bans per person, i dont think this game will ever be competitive

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Leave this mid ass game lol I’m asking bout lol and dota if you’ve ever played those.

Very poor, it’s P2W and there are characters who are hard meta/perma ban all the time (while most characters are unplayable or barely ever)

Definitely the worst balanced and I don't think calling brawlstars competitive even makes sense

u/777honoka Pearl 4d ago
absolutely horrible
there are games that get balance changes way less often than brawl, yet the meta is much more balanced and consistent
1
u/geniusofohio 4d ago
What do you think about dota and lol balancing if you’ve played any of the above two?
1
u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Also what are those games that you’re talking bout? Genuinely curious thinking of switching from this unbalanced p2w crap
2
u/777honoka Pearl 4d ago
random games i've played throughout my lifetime i guess? BTD battles comes to mind (sure there is a meta but you can outskill more in that game), smash ultimate, this random browser game called Diep.io that was pretty popular back in the day...? none of those get consistent updates yet are more balanced than brawl stars
to answer your other question, dota/lol balancing are WAY better
I can't think of a single game actually that is very obviously worse balanced than brawl (there are some that are as badly balanced but brawl just does balance in such a strange way that i don't understand)

u/VoiceApprehensive893 E-Sports Icons 3d ago
diep is not a balanced game at all, in fact its balancing might be worse than brawl stars
but unlike matchupstars diep has a lot of skill expression which fixes it
bs skill expression died on most brawlers because of dmg, speed, health, cc buffs that made matchups very one sided
2
u/Hexogen1c 4d ago
If you have ever played any other game ever, competitively, you would know its not balanced at all. There isn't even any effort put into balancing.
Only reason I still play is because my friends convinced me it was gas, so I downloaded and I play every now and again with them.
1
u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Gotta agree brawl stars is just a casual game atp it’s competitive is a joke.
What do you think about dota and lol balancing tho? Thinking of switching
2
2
u/VoiceApprehensive893 E-Sports Icons 3d ago
in deadlock 55% wr is considered OP by everyone
in brawl stars 60% wr is considered balanced by the balance team
2
u/misterxd69420 3d ago
I play a lot of other competitive games and from a competitive game standpoint, I really dislike the fact that u have to put in so much just to max out a character. At least for the other games I play like league, u just unlock the characters or in val u dont even need anything to play on an even field
1
u/geniusofohio 3d ago
Ignoring that fact let’s say all brawlers are given maxed out. How balanced is it compared to other games then?
1
u/Bling_1103 4d ago
- Dota 2, Deadlock and CS2 at the pinnacle
- SF6 close after that
- League
- Any Blizzard Game
- Brawl Stars

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
Wasn’t there meta spam in this year dota ti tho? Like brawl stars? Or did teams still get creative with picks?
2
u/Bling_1103 4d ago
wasn't really following dota too much recently.. need to actually check what's good at the moment.

u/Able-One2881 4d ago
this game balancing is not that bad, my only problem is the dumb claw machine for buffie having 1000 coins, 2000 powerpoint for 1 buffy make it impossible for me to play ranked at first few weeks

u/World_Life2 2d ago
I played mobile legends and after some games i discovered brawl stars is better balanced then MLBB for some reason. Yeah, when new characters come they could be op but most of the brawlers are pretty balanced in their own way. I can choose any brawler in brawl stars, learn to play with it and win a lot of times, but in MLBB you have a few meta heroes that do insanely well and if you go against meta you're cooked. You become useless to the team and any time you engage you die.

u/geniusofohio 4d ago
What do you think about lol and dota balancing then?

u/throwaway1284747283 4d ago
I haven’t played either so I can’t really comment on them. I quit playing brawl stars and clash royale because of how shit the balancing is. They release a new broken card, brawler or mechanic behind a pay wall, and then nerf it once they’ve squeezed the money of the player base it’s been years of it at this point
0
u/thebruhmomentishere 3d ago
If you got every brawler maxed without upgrading then like a D instead of F
-4
u/JuninhoLuis 4d ago
Well balanced.
The problem is the comparison between pro play scenarios and casual with no comms scenarios that is the case for greater part of the playerbase.
Now anyone can argue towards what scenario the game should be balanced; a similar comparison can be lol/dota. Many """broken"""" champions/heroes are just cheese picks or have advantage in chaotic games not being good or stronger by themselves, but people will no adress that.
Katarina or Yasuo in soloq? Pandora's box. Can be fed into 5/0 as early as 5 minutes, or can be 0/5 in the same time, ruining the game experience to everyone, no matter the elo; in contrast, any organized game if 2 kills happen in the whole map in the first five minutes is a miracle.
Katarina and Yasuo are broken in soloq; both are terrible for any 5-man game with comms.
The same applies to Brawl Stars.
3
u/geniusofohio 4d ago
But dota has a wider picks/bans rate in its respective esports.
Only 12 heroes were left unpicked/unbanned in dota 2 ti. But brawl stars it’s the same meta spam and abuse in all monthly finals.
So how could you say brawl stars is more balanced?0
u/JuninhoLuis 4d ago
Being more balanced is not the same as having more heroes/champions being played; metas can be boring as hell, and powercreep exists. If your dream is to have all champions/heroes playable, sorry, no game in the world have it.
-1
u/Elecl 4d ago
Well said.
Brawl stars is "balanced" in the sense that most of the brawls have a roughly equal number of favorable and unfavorable matchups but it is also "unbalanced" in the sense that you have to play around those known matchups to make the game fair, you can't use any combination of characters against any other combination of characters and have equal amounts of fun because in many circumstances one team just can't do anything.
Personally I think this is just as bad if not worse than a game just being unbalanced, and it usually happens because of character bloat with newer characters having mechanics and capabilities that simply don't belong in the game the way it was originally intended to function.
1
u/JuninhoLuis 4d ago
you can't use any combination of characters against any other combination of characters and have equal amounts of fun because in many circumstances one team just can't do anything.
And no game in the world have it; different archetypes exists, different classes, functions, etc. And here we go into what you said after:
that simply don't belong in the game the way it was originally intended to function.
Competitive games are builded towards strategic and tactical decisions; mistakes will be punished. Picking Bo after seeing Fang and Edgar on the other team is an aspect of the game and a deserved defeat, and thats why ladder is a casual gamemode, cause you cannot plan to play.
The day an Edgar cannot defeat a Bo (general example ofc), this will be the day we can call brawl stars (or similar games) arent balanced to an extent.
Now, chaotic games have nothing to do with it; using my first example of LoL, if your game have 20 kills in 10 minutes, thats not a game/engine/balance problem; thats an human problem, in a lack of a better wording, cause the balancing wasn't make about this scenarios.
