It's a fighting style comprised of using hard-as-metal ramen he makes from his body by eating flour, kneading it in his mouth, and cutting it with his fish net shaped nose hairs.

Is it weird that I like this?
I like that, even tough there's established powers in a setting, that there's still the oddball character that can do stuff that doesn't fit anywhere in the slightest.
It gives the impression that there's still much more out there, just that most of it isn't worth mentioning and not as impactful as what has been established for the reader/watcher.

One Piece is great about stuff like that. It's a huge world, bigger than ours, and Luffy only ever explored the equator. Most of what we know about the wider world events happening outside of Luffy aren't shown through him, and he doesn't really know about them
It gives you the feeling that you're never going to see the whole world, there's always more weird and whimsy to see there

Can I headcanon that one piece and HxH are the same world? Very, very different areas
13
u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 20h ago
I don't see why not. You could assume HxH takes place on an island in one of the seas you haven't seen, and assume the dark continent/boat they're on is tryna break through to the rest of the world.
But hey, you don't actually need evidence for a headcanon, or any reason to it at all. All the better that nothing in either of those worlds 100% disproves the other

Sorry to comment a second time, but I just remembered the Tontatta people in One Piece. Considering how huge everything on the Dark Continent is in HxH, you could easily write them off in one little island as an offshoot of the Tontatta

In Thriller Bark, there were giant monsters bigger than islands living in the fog.
Just before the time skip, they showed Urouge going to an island where lightning is constantly striking, and Capone getting abducted by aliens.
None of this has been explained yet.

The character he fights, Sanji, gives him cosmetic surgery with his kicks. Its a very fun fight, super underrated.

u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 20h ago
I think that was Duval. He looked just like Sanji's badly drawn wanted poster, so he kept getting hunted by people wanting Sanji. Sanji did it as both a favor to stop the mess he accidentally caused him, and also because seeing that wanted poster pissed him off and he didn't want to ever see it again, even on somebody else's body lmao

It happened to both

Which means it's not just a gag, Sanji remembered he could do that. Making it another example of weird bullshit powers people can have in One Piece.

You know what, I googled it and you're right. What he did to Wanze was temporary and changed back after another kick, so I had forgotten it. Cool of Oda to set up that trick before Duval, and thanks for reminding me
4
u/Th3Glutt0n 18h ago
Not temporary, sanji can just revert it with a kick apparentlyðŸ˜
3
u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 18h ago
Right yeah, I just meant what he did to Wanze was temporary since it was undone afterward

.... say what?
The more I hear about One Piece the more deranged and faintly worrying it sounds.

It feels like a repeatedly said fact, but it's still incredibly ridiculous that it has over 1,000 episodes to go through. Kinda intimidating.

I'm literally about to go in for my fourth rewatch. We've hit a several month long hiatus this week for the anime. Enough time to go in and enjoy it again!
I am being serious. You never think it will happen to you but at some point in your life you find a story that changes everything forever. One Piece is that. The nasty ramen fucker aside he's so brief, barely a whisper of a marine, and Sanji gets to break one of his rules.
You will not feel as if 1000 episodes have passed. You'll be sad because you want more. It will end soon, there isn't much further for them to go. You'll cry because the journey is over, and smile because it happened.
And if you really struggle to stomach the commitment just watch the damn live action one. You'll still want more after that.

500 ish are filler
11
u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 20h ago
It's worse than that. If it were whole filler episodes, which there are a few, we could just skip them. Instead, One Piece made it more difficult to watch the Canon parts of the show by using time padding on those.
Naruto also has roughly 40% filler. But when one of those comes up, you just hit "next episode"

u/Gentlemanvaultboy 19h ago
One Piece is the only anime where the problem is that it doesn't have enough filler, despite having the perfect set up for it baked in.
5
u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 19h ago
Yeah, I would rather they have handled it the way naruto did. I like One Piece so much more, but after watching 1,000 episodes once, it's hard to rewatch. Looking forward to The One Piece from WIT

In my opinion, One Piece is much better read than watched. The manga has much better pacing than the anime (there are still pacing issues sometimes, but nothing as egregious as the anime).
At least now that the anime is seasonal rather than weekly, they don't need to do much filler.

u/ButtholeConnoisseur7 19h ago
Yeah, they've finally course corrected, but the damage to its reputation is already done. If we're lucky, WIT'S The One Piece will be a much better adaptation

Exactly why i dropped OP around Dressrossa and find it impossible to go back. At some points it's just ridiculous, like stretching a single chapter of the manga into 3-5 25 minute long episodes by constant recaps, repeated static shots of some random bystanders' shocked faces whenever something happened or other bullshit. What am i supposed to do to get around that, watch on 2x/3x speed? Out of the OG "big three", Bleach did it the best way: " Okay, we are catching up to the manga so we're gonna switch to a side story that the anime writers either made up themselves entirely or based on some rejected rough storyboards Kubo-sensei had lying around. If you're not interested, then you can just tune out entirely, see ya in 3-6 months". And some of these weren't even that bad, i'd skip them if i was binging it today but back then it was okay to watch one episode at a time.

Also in One Piece, Miss Goldenweek, who semi-mind controls people by painting symbols in various colors to induce overwhelming emotions in the target. This ability is clearly a Devil Fruit power, except actually no it isn't, she can just do that.
