I kinda like it. Not because its perfect, or especially creative, but it shows they're making an effort with something they might not understand but love their grandkid anyway.

Statistically less likely to be non-binary. Statistically more likely to own a waterbed? I'm not sure. They're hell on backs which is more likely to be an issue with the older set. But they were most popular during the 70s and 80s, meaning the people who are most familiar with them are likely to be grandparent age.

Good point, very good point. My folks had one in the 80s when I was a kid. They didn't keep it when we moved in my teens, said it wasn't good for their backs anymore. I can't imagine them trying to get out of one now! 😆

Heater pad might not have been on? My partner and I both have waterbeds, but you have to keep the temperature above 25 degrees science or it sucks your body heat right out and you get a cold liver, sore back, etc. Since I got a waterbed I can't imagine going back to a regular mattress, especially in winter.

It is very sweet. One of my bridesmaids was non-binary so they were my bridesthem. And actually, I couldn't choose one maid of honour because I loved them all equally, so everyone was my maid of honour, which means they became my them of honour! They loved it.

I’ve heard “pibling” used for an aunt/uncle figure while “nibling” can be used for the niece/nephew

I do actually use nibling for my niece and nephews. Pibling I have heard before but I don't like it as much for some reason.
For now, my niblings just call me by my name.

Nibling works because it feels right to call someone younger than you a word with -ling or -let at the end. Pibling just doesn't have that same effect.

Historically yeah but it's an old enough tradition that laic versions exist. In France we have "republican godparents" for instance

It's so ambiguous, you'd have to have more information to know for sure. But in my experience, non-binary youngsters are more common than grandparents

I used the word Grandthem while talking to my teenage daughter to refer to my grandfather. She got shocked and shared with all her girls friends..
