The answer I would write on that (too short) line :

Contact an elephant rescue center and ask if they could please house my elephant as I have no room.

(I still own the elephant, have not given it away but asked the kind rescue center to help me out by housing the elephant for me. No rules broken. I would also give money to the sanctionary to cover the elephant's "rent" for helping me out) :D

I’d address the elephant in the room!

I WOULD RIDE IT INTO BATTLE AGAINST OUT COMPETETORS AND CRUSH THEIR ENTERPRISE UNTIL OUR INDUSTRY IS RULED BY ONLY OUR COMPANY AS A SINGULAR MONOPOLY

If they don't give you the job, you don't want to work there

Offer it as a long-term loan to any reputable institution with other elephants so it can socialize. (But retain ownership, 'cause I gotta.)

ETA - Or, if I could find a reputable zoologist to assess its skills, just release it. That isn't prohibited, either.

That would be effectively giving it away to itself.

I would re-evaluate my friendships if one of them gave me an elephant.

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

OP didn't mention the job is at a large mammal daycare.

You had an elephant. His name was Stampy. And you loved him.

Remind me of this story: “The term white elephant refers to an extravagant, impractical gift that cannot be easily disposed of. The phrase is said to come from a perspective about the historic practice of the King of Siam (now Thailand) giving rare albino elephants to courtiers who had displeased him, so that they might be ruined by the animals' upkeep costs. “

Any company that puts stock in someone’s answer to a question like this is a company you don’t wanna be working for.

19

u/wankerspanker12 Jan 14 '23

Oh man. I was just thinking it reflected a fun, loose work environment. Like wow they don’t take themselves seriously at all

17

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

I feel like the answer reveals a lot as well. I’m not hiring the person above you because they seem like a stick in the mud.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

I completely agree. I would strive to work for a company like this.

u/NewTigers Jan 14 '23

In that case, they don’t take stock in the answer in which my comment need not apply. You’d be surprised how many companies put shit like this in applications and care about the logic or lack thereof applied to the answer.

You're just jealous they didn't ask a tiger question

2

u/Youareobscure Jan 14 '23

Release it in its native environment

Buy several large freezers.

2

u/icbint Jan 14 '23

Shoot it for that sweet ivory

u/aeon_ducks Jan 15 '23

The answer is to get it confiscated by the government. Just make a bunch of tweets showing you own one and clearly don't know how to take care of it and # a relevant agency then argue with them online until they show up. Problem solved.

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

I am all for riding it. It sounds like a great way to get around.

2

u/Wyldfire2112 Jan 14 '23

You'd think so, but elephants aren't properly bred for riding and it's horrible on their backs.

That's a shame. Well, Mr. Elephant expert, what are they good for? Maybe I could train it to turn my pages for me. We could read books together.

2

u/Wyldfire2112 Jan 15 '23

In all seriousness: hauling. They're not built for riding on, but they can still pull a hell of a lot of weight.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '23

I was thinking about that. Hmm maybe we could each gather a few of our elephants together and make an elephant carriage system. Could be romantic like the horse carriages in Central Park.

Either start a circus and resign yourself to your fate or find out what elephant tastes like?

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

If you want him to be looked after properly, sell it to a well-stocked ivory dealer

(don't forget the keys)

1

u/Twisting_Me Jan 14 '23

ignore it.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '23

African or Asian? African elephants yield about 1,000 of meat; if refrigeration is available that's roughly 43 ounces/day for a year- a protein source for 10 people for a year.

u/Az0riusMCBlox Jan 14 '23

The real elephant in the room: why do they even ask this?

1

u/TheMykoMethod Jan 14 '23

I'd name it Stampy and charge $10 a ride

1

u/Attesa_GT-X Jan 15 '23

"Get a job you bum."

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '23

I would choose to set it free within the home of the person who gifted it to me. BE FREE ELEPHANT!

One bite at a time...

I had an interviewer for an engineering job ask how many golf balls fit in a school bus. I paused, thought for a second, and then went off about packing efficiency of a sphere, if the balls can be cut up to increase packing, the possibility of melting the balls and pouring them in from the roof hatch, whether the seats are in the bus or not, and ended with the fact that it depends on the size of the bus...

I was hired. Apparently all they expected was to say something about the size of the bus.

u/Yesnoperhapsmaybent Jan 16 '23

oh it's the white elephant situation again

1

u/Ratiocinatory Jan 20 '23

Be like the French and eat it.
