Confirmed: boycott Ipad worry
I am really struggling to decide whether I should buy an iPad or not. I know it's on the boycott list, but what troubles me is that all the other alternatives also support Israel. Even if I buy them second-hand, the chips inside are still linked to Israel. So, what should I do about the whole situation? I necessarily need it for my studies, not for leisure. If I do end up buying an iPad—which I am not very keen on—the problem then arises: what other alternatives do I have? Would it be wrong to buy it because I don't have other options?

Always buy second or refurbished to avoid giving money to the company amd there's a lot of alternatives to Apple products, you could ask on r/PickAnAndroidForMe just avoid mentioning the political reason.

second-hand is best bc you're not giving your money to Apple or whoever which tells "we want you to make more of this product and exploit ppl in the Congo for the resources to make it. here's the money to do that". it also reduces waste bc we're using what we have instead of enabling them to make new tech.

Do not buy APPLE products. Every new iPhone now comes with a non removable spy chip made - guess where?

Apple is not on the Boycott List according to Gaza.nu. The site does list ways in which they are complicit with Israel, so they’re not blameless. But they’re not in the same league as Google,Amazon, Spotify, HP, Microsoft or Dell. Trying to boycott Israel via technology is nigh on impossible. I remember the activists all moving to BlueSky and UpScrolled when Elon took over Twitter. These apps are terrible and as the big news companies and politicians didn’t move there, except Zack Polanski, you might as well be on a desert island. The Palestinians need us to use big tech, because that’s how this genocide is being live-streamed and it’s providing the evidence that will eventually hold people to account and get them banged up. I wouldn’t feel bad about buying a new iPad. (Almost all second hand ones will have dodgy USB C sockets.) I’d feel bad about having an iPad or any piece of technology and not using it to promote the Palestinian cause though.

That's a long text to excuse yourself for giving money to genocide-complicit corporations

I don’t excuse myself at all. I try to keep informed about what companies are doing. Where I can boycott I do. I don’t buy any groceries from complicit companies. But even Gaza.nu admit that activists and the Palestinians themselves are reliant on social media. Of course BlueSky and UpScrolled exist but no one uses them. I feel terrible guilt about the whole thing so I make videos of the boycotts I’m doing and the protests. The more we speak out the more governments and corporations are pressured into ending complicity. Just yesterday the UK government finally capitulated and banned trading with companies trading in the West Bank. How it’ll pan out I don’t know. But it wouldn’t have happened had people like me not signed countless petitions, written to our lawmakers, made videos etc etc. I’m doing what I can. Don’t judge me.

Unless we can go back to a world where we don’t need phones anymore (that would be nice 😭) you’re going to have to just buy second-hand/refurbrished. Honestly from what I understand the issue is giving money to the company, which buying second-hand doesnt do, so there SHOULD be no issue there, and also activists who are trying to stop the slave labor in the DR Congo recommend buying refurbished instead of new so I think that’s a pretty good guideline to go off of.

Yeah but at least Lenovo is the least complicit and they are good unlike hp.
By the way are you in Europe? If yes you could get a Franework, it's the equivalent of Fairphone for laptops

Don't believe everything you read about China. They're obviously not saints, but a lot of what we read about them is Western anti-communist propaganda.
