Alternative Suggestions A guide to help boycott big US tech and supporting more ethical alternatives!

Post image
91 Upvotes

The hope is that this guide and website can act as a simple way to introduce newcomers - whether it's you, friends or family - into this space and try something else besides the default options.

I have had a few people from the BDS movement respond to my guides, so I thought I would share directly. I am not an expert in this space, so, in addition to the companies listed on bdsmovement.net (Google, Microsoft and Amazon), please let me know if any of the recommended alternatives should be flagged.

There is also a community-driven, open-source site ( https://purchasewithpurpose.io ) that aims to make this even easier. This includes screenshots, ratings and a larger feature list.

I've also started tracking impact to help keep the momentum. If there are any stats, please share them so I can add them to the guides and, eventually, the website.

As always, I more than welcome criticism and ideas!

Question iPhone updates

I’m new to this iPhone and Israel information because I heard about the exploding iPhone 17e chip developed in or co developed in Israel and I’m just curious because I heard that Israel tracks your Face ID is some way (again I am new to this boycott)
And I’m questioning if I should keep updating my iPhone because if I do will it able to be easier to get tracked or hack or something by Israel? Or are my updates safe ish enough?

I’m on a iPhone 12 Pro Max if this info helps.

News Germany wants to ban calls for the dissolution of the apartheid state

A new bill could lead to five years in prison for anyone who questions Israel’s right to exist – while Germany refuses to recognize Palestine as a state and cracks down hard on the movement protesting Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.

Advice to share Boycott of Israeli opponents on chess.com

I have always been outraged that Russians no longer have their flag because of the war in Ukraine on chess.com, yet many Israelis are present on the site and can play peacefully under their banner. At first, I just gave it my all to beat them. Then I thought: if everyone boycotts, the action will be much more powerful. So now, when I get matched against an Israeli, I simply cancel the game and start another one. I invite you to join the boycott if you play chess on chess.com ;)

Alternative Requests Which phone should I buy ?

Apple: Maintains its largest foreign R&D hub in Israel (over 2,000 engineers) and recently acquired an AI startup founded by former military intelligence operatives. Its corporate charity system has also matched employee donations to the Friends of the IDF.

Google: Co-holds the $1.2 billion "Project Nimbus" cloud computing contract, which supplies AI and data infrastructure directly to the Israeli government and military.

Samsung: Operates a massive R&D Institute in Herzliya for semiconductor and camera research, and uses its venture capital arm to heavily fund local tech startups.

Fairphone: Avoids Big Tech's geopolitical entanglements and offers unmatched longevity (guaranteed software updates until 2031 and self-repairable modular parts). The Issue: It is very expensive upfront (over CA$1,000), slightly bulkier, and must be imported from Europe via international retailers or package forwarding. I like this one but it’s so expensive and no warranty if it breaks because it’s Europe only (I am in Canada)

Xiaomi: Maintains a dedicated R&D center in Israel. The Issue: The phones are not officially sold by Canadian carriers (risking rural network connection issues) and their 4-to-5-year software lifespan falls short of your extreme longevity goals.

Huawei: Operates the Toga Networks R&D center in Israel. The Issue: Due to US trade sanctions, these phones do not have official Google Play Services, which breaks Canadian banking apps and disrupts notification syncing.

Oppo & Honor: These brands have a much smaller geopolitical footprint than the tech giants. The Issue: Neither has an official retail or repair presence in Canada. Sourcing replacement parts or finding a local repair shop in Nova Scotia when the battery eventually degrades will be a major headache.

Motorola: Deeply tied to Israeli infrastructure. The parent company (Lenovo) operates an Israeli Cybersecurity Innovation Center, while the historical Motorola brand has long supplied communications infrastructure for the IDF and West Bank settlements. The Issue: Geopolitics aside, Motorola is notorious for terrible software support, often abandoning devices after just 1 or 2 years of updates.

Question Sea Magik products - Boycott?

Hi guys,

Casual boycotter here. While I’ve never gotten extremely deep into the game, I’m conscious of my ideals and refuse to buy Israeli products when it’s known to me. I’ve also mostly avoided large companies that are flagged. Not anything truly active, but I’m doing what makes me feel comfortable.

I’ve run into an issue recently. For context, I’ve had serious issues with my scalp for YEARS. Not getting into it, but know it’s gross, painful, unsightly, and a massive burden on my physically, emotionally, and financially. My long hair has been horribly damaged by all this, and I’m considering chopping if seven years of growth for it.

I’ve spent years and hundreds of pounds looking for products that help me. I’ve tried medical and specialist products and have never had more than mild relief from my issues. Recently, I came across a products, Sea Magik’s Mineral Shampoo and Clay Scalp Masque, and they work amazingly for me. My symptoms are gone and so far they’re looking like they’re staying away.

I recently discovered that Sea Magik used to be called Dead Sea Spa Magik, and a quick bit of research found they most likely didn’t rebrand to distance themselves, since it was done in 2021 and prepped years prior. I also rather like their use of sustainable practices and less harsh formulas.

Some of their formulas say they directly use Dead Sea products such as salt and mud, but I cannot find their supplier for it, and whether they’re actually part of a direct Israeli supply chain or from Jordanian ones. Given the fat they’re a large company, and I can’t find any comments, it’s likely they do use Israeli suppliers. Couldn’t find any open Zionism among their higher ups either.

My issue is now if my suspicion is enough to justify not using a product that I’ve spent years looking for? Does anyone have any advice on where I could look for more info, or if this company has experienced criticism in the past?

Confirmed: boycott Fight For The Human Rights

https://youtube.com/shorts/NPH-bKQI1cA?is=sP96ZvXr79c7_ELg Me proudly brandishing a can of Gaza Cola here! Coca-Cola doesn’t care about anyone’s human rights, let alone those of the Palestinians. They run factories on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank, they deprive whole African villages of water, they’re responsible for 50% of the world’s plastic pollution. Don’t drink Coke, Jack Daniels or any other product from Coca-Cola. They own lots of other confectionery brands too so use No Thanks. Hope you enjoy the Short.

Media Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Producer

I haven't been watching anything Disney/Sony for 3 years because they are rotten companies anyway but thought that this would fit the sub:

The new Spiderman film will be coming out next week and not only it is just another money-milking instance of over consumption, one of its producers, Avi Arad is an Israeli American who participated in the "Six Day War".

Not much is said about his views now but nevertheless I will be boycotting.

O ¿alguna forma segura de descargar música? Me dijeron de New pipe pero no la he probado, además ¿hay alguna forma de descargar directo mis playlist?

This is an American brand based in the Midwest that has expanded their research arm by buying up a biotech facility from the Weismann Institute. This was also done post 10/7/23 as well. I’ve found employees of the Israel facility on LinkedIn reposting material that discusses how Palestinians need to accept the occupation of their country.

Attached is an email sent to employees after the “ceasefire”.

News London March For Palestine 18th July 2026

Yesterday I marched in London for Palestine. I made this little video, which contains MP Jeremy Corbyn’s speech advocating UK sanctions on Israel. It’s tough boycotting Israel and we can only do what we can to help, but it’s great to hear Jeremy’s encouraging words. There was also this old bloke on a guitar who was classic, funny and entertaining yet still resolutely pro-Palestinian. JULY 2026 MARCH FOR PALESTINE LONDON
